Distance: 54ft / 18yds
Bow: 62# @ 28" Scythian Biocomposite (by Grozer Csaba)
I've had questions and comments about "Snap Shooting", questioning the accuracy and consistency achievable. Here is some snap shooting without doing any forward follow-through, to show only the horizontal action of the Khatra follow through is required for good flight (note the consistent direction of the arrows in the target).
To accomplish this, I don't grip the bow firmly with my middle, ring, and little finger. The downside is: only pressure from the palm of the hand during the draw will create any horizontal rotation (Khatra). This can only be accomplished with a grip that fills the hand, such as the round grip on the Scythian style bow shown here. A Turkish grip is flat on the belly side, thus all the horizontal rotation would come from the grip strength of the lower fingers, and produce a very pronounced forward follow through motion after release.
Let me know your thoughts below!

I feel for you Brian, I live in an area that the manly-mans think compound bows are the best thing since sliced bread and I am alone in my horse bow and khatra delimmas !! So I know how it feels to experiment constantly to find the best combo!! Good luck, my friend!!

TheDave570 they forget that almost the entirety of Europe and Asia was conquered by men with recurve bows.

back at it again with a great video! i really like your videos and i wanna learn to shoot like you. i'm going to buy my first horsebow since i only been shooting with my homemade bows before. i also recomend that you always introduce your videos with your own voice just so they get a little more personallity in them;) sorry for poor english

Thanks for the recommendation, I didn't entirely plan on putting out a video last night, and the microphone was being used by someone else (family). Your English is fine, and congrats on making the decision to get a shortbow/horsebow. What styles have you considered?

Brian C i was thinking of speedshooting since I like to do trickshots because it's illegal to hunt with bow and arrow in Sweeden

Well thats a bit unfortunate to hear (about the hunting), but trick shooting is fun and should prove to be very enjoyable. If you're going to draw from a hip quiver (i.e. Turkish style) and not so much the 'bow carry' method I show, then your choice of bow is pretty open (considering the grip styles). If you'd like to do and shoot with the 'bow carry' method, then you'll ideally want a bow with a rounded grip, vs. oblong like a Turkish/Persian style bow. I theorize a Korean style bow could be made to comfortably hold arrows in the bow hand, but I haven't tried or done it myself. For trick shooting, Id suggest going no heavier than 40# in draw weight, as you'll want a bow you can easily draw and hold at full draw for 30 seconds at-least; this will allow you to focus on accuracy, form, and speed, rather maintaining all that while under heavier stress. Fiberglass bows can be a good starter, but bio-composites (i.e. the Scythian bow shown in this video) and bows made with Carbon Fiber (i.e. Song-Mu-Gung) can be very snappy, thus very energy efficient. If you can afford it, I'd spring for a better bow as it would be more enjoyable over time. For arrows: absolutely carbon fiber, or bamboo shafts. I use tonkin bamboo shafts from Oulay.com but I had to order 100, they're great bamboo shafts but it may be outside what you'd want for a setup and more involved arrow-making process than you want to do. Good luck in your decisions, definitely do your own research and considerations for what you want to achieve. And don't be afraid to post some videos if/when you can!

Brian C thank you for the great answer! I was thinking of an 45 pound Chinese bow that was pretty cheap! and the arrows I am currently using is my homemade oak arrows with an 8 mm shaft, and I'll be sure to tell you when I post my first video :)

Are you ten yards away from the target?
@BrianCx

It's a little more than 10 if I remember right, I"ll have to measure.

Update: 54ft / 18 yards from the target, measured today.

Impressive. I shoot 20 yard in all the time, but I have difficulty to get a good grouping, around 2 feet in diameter. In the video, you took 16 steps to get the the target. That mean you are kind of tall, around 6 feet or more.

hah no, i'm 5'9. I'm using the Sony FDR-X3000 with Steadycam Active in "movie mode". It's a really great feature that reduces or eliminates a lot of shake and wobble; I think a few steps are hidden because of this.

@@BrianCx Brian I'll only need to say this once because you catch on very quick, first imagine a battle that rages on ..for days non stop . Ok got that image now listen. NEVER HOLD..NEVER AIM got that ...in holding the muscles tighten ,now this might be ok for the compound bow manly men because they are not hold back shit right...10lbs maybe.....now never aim , we don't have sights on our bows again fine for the manly men but not us our shot is ...listen very carefully....purely instinctive just like throwing a ball . There of course is one exception and that is the one count snatched release right...draw to full having one inch of the arrow yet to be drawn count to one or better yet say a quick prayer such as "there is no power that is not God " contract back muscles push the chest out and quickly snatch back the last inch of that arrow and pull hard from the elbow as you twist your thumb or fingers in case of Slavic off the string. Talk to Mihai he can give you more insights. But other than doubt in your mind I saw nothing wrong, you see the arrow doesn't lie and will tell you if you are in balance tell you if your heart and mind are aligned tell you if you are fluid in form tell you if your form is good. Peace be with you Brian

You need to put a stabilizer on the front to help with accuracy
