We review the snapper SPX riding mower and show pros, cons and features of the model.
This one has 2691020 for a model number but they also sell these under the model numbers 2691556, 2691557, 2691663 and 2691664 depending on the engine and deck options chosen.
This particular one has a stamped deck 42" wide with a Briggs and Stratton Professional 20HP engine model 33M677-0110-G5
The Hydro-Gear transmission on this unit is a T2 (T2HP / T2 / T2-HP)
The other options available on this SPX unit are 23hp or 25hp Briggs & Stratton engine with a 42" / 46" stamped deck or 42" / 48" fabricated deck. The newer SPX models come with a Hydro-Gear K46 transmission that is upgraded from the T2HP version. With these options available we show you why we think this model is a BUY over other similar models at this price point

I had the seat bolts tear out of the frame. Snapper dealer did replace that part of the frame. Frame was not strong enough to stand up to mowing a drainage ditch on my property, but the rest of the mower has held up with no problems.

I see the bolts come out so often at the frame I wonder why they get that way. My guess is they are not originally torqued to spec and once they come loose just wear and wear. Thanks for watching!

Had similar problem. Tore the metal it was attached to. I had someone weld a thicker plate to attach to it on that spot. Been great since
@kebo57
@kebo57 10 дней назад
@@IndRepair I think it's because the metal frame is not particularly thick at that point and it flexes over time and breaks due to fatigue.

I personally love my snapper. In laws have a craftsman and something is always failing. Tank is in the back so it gives so much room to work in the front

I have a 2020 model with the 23hp Briggs and a Tuff Torq K46. I’ve run it 3 seasons on a little more than 1/2 an acre and it’s b en really good. I’ve done the usual maintenance and a deck belt in that time.

Awesome! Glad to hear it has been holding up well. Thanks for watching!

Great video, thank you!!!! I just bought a used SPX 2246 in pretty decent condition with the 22hp B&S Professional series engine and the 46" deck for $400. It runs great, but I'm going to have to get a deck belt for it, and install an inner tube in the front left tire before I can get it going and mowing! Is that a good engine on these mowers?? Also, how can I tell if mine has the K46 transmission or not? The seller actually gave me a spare 42" deck to go with it, so I should be in pretty good shape once I get the mower going, I will have two spare spindles and tension pulley! I'm going shopping for the deck belt and an inner tube today, hopefully I can get this mower going today or tomorrow, in spite of all the rain from tropical storm Debby. Thanks again for the video!!

@@IndRepair I got a new belt ($35) yesterday and had a tire shop install a tube in the tire ($27) and have now got it ready to go and mow! This mower has a pretty sharp turning radius, so sharp you have to be careful making tight turns as the outside tire can dig in a bit. So far, so good, I like my $400 mower lol.

All I like is the vira speed and simple aluminum unit No tuff trans for me

They make the K46, which is one of the most (if not the most) used transmission across all brands. We see a lot of them really old with no issues. Problem is most of us like to push a machine to and beyond its limits. Why do we do this? Because why not? You have a machine and expect it to work for whatever you use it for.

I like the original snapper riding mower. Bring back the Forrest Gump mower!

What model riding mower in 48-60 inch cut, do you feel was the most reliable and easy to service { as far as changing belts , blades, etc } ?
@IndRepair
@IndRepair Год назад
I would go with a Simplicity hands down their mowers are so much easier to work on than anything. Select the deck size and engine option you want and off you go!

@@IndRepair aren’t Simplicity and the Snapper really close since it’s the same company that owns them, Briggs and Stratton?
@IndRepair

They may be owned by the same company now but the designs and quality are much different still. Thanks for watching!

Currently one of these are for sale in my area for $1500, is there a sign to look for to tell if the cam is going out or is it one of things where its working once and broken the next?

Just happens all of a sudden no real indication for wear otherwise

Wait until you have to replace the battery. MIT is a capital bitch. It uses a U1R battery. You have to put the new battery in sideways and then rotate it into the metal box it sits in. You may have to install it several times until it goes into is box. You will also have to replace the battery bolts with those one inch long ( 1/4”x 1.0 inch). Some people say you need a 10mm wrench to remove and install the battery bolts. This is wrong. You will need two 7/16” wrenches. I did not reinstall the hold down bar because I would not be able to remove the battery caps and top the cells off with distilled water. It will not come out of that metal box that it sits in, unless you turn the tractor over.

Fuel tank in back, don’t like that
@IndRepair
@IndRepair Год назад
Front tanks are easier to drain or flush but long as your using good fuel you will not have to worry about it. At least there is plenty room to replace the fuel line without complete disassembly when the time comes. Thanks again for watching!
