Also when Catherine started drinking again, the ghosts of the 2 Philips, her dead husband and the younger one appeared to her,. They told her to stop drinking.
Although Nina was a main character when I started watching. I believe that Ryan was seeing her and Victor at the same time when I started watching. I always thought Nina was a flake. She was wishy washy to me.
I do not even care that he's gay, what I care about is the bad acting going on. I mean, wtf was that? He said it like it was no big deal, almost cracked a smile and left the scene leaving her hanging.
He shouldn't have left her there he should have asked her "are you okay?" At least I don't mind him being gay but he should have at least like calmed her down
I was in my late teens when Phillip and Nina were part of the main storyline. Y&R has done another remarkable and yet terrible job of rewriting the past. I mean if Colonel Douglas Austin was in the closet that might be more believable. Ever since my father passed away in 1989, I resent how Y&R toys around with people faking their own death. There are people watching the show that are dealing with the grief of losing a loved one. One message that should always be clear is that death is final, at least in the reality that we live in. By the way, Nina should have married Chase.
@@T3XACAN0 In 1988 Chase Benson was hired by Katherine Chancellor and Jill Foster Abbott to get Nina Webster out of Phillip Chancellor III's life. He started out as a sexy pool boy. Then later he worked at Jabot Cosmetics. Nina almost left Phillip for Chase on their wedding day over 30 years ago. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oQ7Pj0YO_9Uv.html=oQ7Pj0YO_9U
@@T3XACAN0 In the year 2022 a lot of people get Chase and Chance mixed up! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Young_and_the_Restless_characters_(1980s)#Chase_Benson
He reminds me of Luke Snyder from ATWT. Luke was drinking too when he had a problem trying to tell everyone that he was gay, like Phillip said, it was a symptom. Sometimes I think it would be good if Luke and Noah Mayor(Luke's lover) made a guest appearance on Y&R while doing one of their film projects and talk to Phillip. After all Amber is friends with Alison Stewart(another ATWT character).
Gay people have done that, especially when they are trying to identify or come to terms with their sexuality. He was a teenager back then. There are lesbians who have given birth to children. It's the same thing.
It was a massive triangle in soap opera tradition. Philip loved Christine but he got Nina pregnant....he did indeed do the right thing and marry Nina..... wow Thom and Trish aged pretty well.
Thom Bierdz(Phillip III) knew that he was gay back in 1989 when he left the show but he was afraid to tell the cast and crew because he was worried that they wouldn't accept him. He came out of the closet a few years later after leaving. When they asked him to come back saying that they had an idea for Phillip III to be gay, he was happy to return. Since Phillip III has been revealed to be gay, he feels more comfortable on the set.
Alexander Edward Pytko , that wad a terrible story. They should have just left him dead. Just because he's gay in real life doesn't mean that they had to make his character gay. I liked him and Nina together. They ruined their story.
If this had been The UK, it would have been no big deal. UK Soaps are very Gay Friendly most notably Coronation Street and Hollyoaks. Alot of UK Boy Bands also have had a Closeted Member. In The US it was Lance Bass (N'Sync) but in The UK there was a Man named Duncan James who was in a Group called Blue (similar to 98 Degrees & Color Me Bad). The UK Press "Outed" him and he later played a Closeted Cop named Ryan Knight on Hollyoaks. Some of them play "Gay For Pay" like Stirling Gallacher who plays Paula Martin on Coronation Street and will do double duty as Ffion on another Soap Opera Casualty. Before he was Fired on The Young & The Restless, Mal Young worked on a Soap Opera called Brookside that had the First Same Sex Kiss between a Woman named Beth and her Friend Margaret. Yet the First Same Sex Kiss took place in 1974 with a Teleplay called "Girl".
@@msrain1235 You know, Christian LeBlanc(Michael) and Greg Rikaart(Kevin) are both gay in real-life but they didn't make their characters gay. They're currently making it seem like Mariah is a lesbian or bisexual but her portrayer, Camryn Grimes has confirmed that she is straight in real-life.
@@alexanderpytko5394 I heard she came out as Bisexual. In The UK Dolly Rose Campbell who plays Gemini "Gemma" Winter on Coronation Street came out as Bisexual as well.
You know what's so sad. He's Gay on The Show, he's Gay in Real Life (Not that there's anything wrong with that). Then he has to deal with one Brother Killing himself then the other Brother who killed their Mother who is doing life who is Schizophrenic. Then Brenda Dickson gets fired, blacklisted, did time in prison, had a nasty divorce and was homeless. Heartbreaking.
Greg Rikaart(Kevin) is gay in real-life but he's able to handle playing a straight character. There were thoughts of doing a storyline where Kevin turns out to be gay but I think they've axed that idea as Kevin has shown so much stuff going on to indicate that Kevin is straight. Greg seems to be able to handle playing a straight character because he knows it's just acting/pretending.
@vegas787 Thom pops up on Y&R every once in awhile when the storyline dictates it. Sadly, the show never explored his sexuality when he's on. Phillip was a major part of the Young and Restless history. Back in the early years when Jill was a teenager, she got pregnant with him by Katherine's husband. Jill and Kay had been fighting over Phillip ever since. His being Gay added an entire new dimension to the show. Y&R got a lot of positive recognition because of it.
I stopped way before that and never understood why they killed off Philip. Now I'm escaping election anxiety catching up on decades of storylines. What a treat.
Umm...did he not die from the drinking & driving car accident that turned into a big storyline and Nina even had to take a moment to interrupt a Danny Romalotti concert to yell at the concert goers?? 😂
Nina was a Golddigger back in the day who stole her Best Friend's Boyfriend. She never had a proper relationship with a Man who "truly" loved her. Even when she was married to Ryan McNeil, she had to deal with the fact that Ryan "cared" about her but he "loved" Victoria.
I mean kudos Thom still looks great and is maybe a better actor now. It was great to have him back but he seemed pretty straight with Christine and Nina around 1987. I remember that's when I started watching in College. He straight up competed with Danny for Christine's attention. I do remember Nina seduced him when he was drunk and that's where they got Chance....but I just don't buy he's homo. Bi maybe. This brings back memories. I'm not gonna lie I love it when actors have been with...or return to soaps years later. Young and the Restless and DAYS in particular really "get" that.
That's cool...I just wanted to point out that in your response, you didn't say that you felt badly for both of them...and that's a common thing that happens, particularly in relationships where one comes out as a gay person. hope you understand.
Worst male actor in history of Y&R other than Wings Hauser. He’s gay in real life and had zero chemistry with any on screen female partner so why is his being gay far fetched? It’s spot on.
The comeback of Phillip III doesnt make any sence! A few years ago, Phillip along with Rex and a few others that have died "came back" to talk to Kathrine in a dream from the afterlife.. So how is it that Phillip could still be alive? Will Phillip then try to get back his millions from Nina, and does that then mean that Nina never had a true inheratance after his "death?"
Has everyone forgotten this is a soap opera? If you don't like the storyline, stop watching it. Good gosh, look at all the adultery on this thing if you want to be judgmental about these CHARACTERS. There are murderers, rapists, and just plain old psychos on there.

What Nina is going through????? So, society tells a man that he is wrong if he is gay, and so he hides it...for years...like so many do, and yet...all we need to worry about is what Nina is going thru??? Can you for a moment imagine what it's like to be in his shoes? No support, blaming him for having to keep such a huge secret! This is a great story line and maybe people will start thinking a little more compassionately.
But keeping his secret made him a liar, all the feelings she thought they shared were a facade to hide his true self, and he used her to prop it up. Nobody deserves to be the center of a lie and not be aware of the truth.
We all remember what Nina went through next. 2 words...David Kimble. Forget being a young mom who is rich and widow. David Kimble plan was to kill her and when she turned the tables on him she was "thisclose" to going to prison. So being gay is one thing, but being a single woman with a young child facing attempted murder is whole different type of pain.
