I was 19 when Porky's first came out & was one of the first to see it in theater's, the part with the school principal & the gym instructor is got to be one of the funniest scenes in movie history! I laughed so much I was crying! LOL

I'm very fortunate to have seen Das Boot in a theater recently and I agree with Roger. It was one of the best films I've ever seen with the greatest acting I've ever seen.

One of the things I liked best about Das Boot is that the men are manifestly human. They aren't Nazi automatons. Even though they were on the wrong side in WWII the viewer can't help wanting them to survive.

I was lucky to see Das Boot in a very old long & narrow walk-in theater. Four seats wide on each side. Perfect for this movie.

Death trap is so good! It’s got shades of clue, the producers and the recent film ”knives out”. I’d be shocked if it wasn’t a big influence

In chicago in the late 70's early 80's..they used to play S&E Saturdays at 6:30...and replay it at 11:30pm...I caught every one!

I sort of agree about Porky's. There are a few funny moments, but I didn't really care about the whole story about getting revenge on Porky at the end.

I was in 7th grade when Porky's came out. The tagline was 'You'll be glad you came'. I didn't get the 'joke'. It basically became huge because of 'the shower scene' and the controversy it caused. That scene and the followup 'lineup' sene[which is very funny] are the only scenes worth anything

I wonder what Siskel would've thought of the 5 hour version of Das Boot. It has much better character development and depth than the theatrical release.

@5greatscenes326 The 5 hour version ran as a miniseries in Europe. So you basically don't have to sit there for 5 hours straight. There's no way my ass could handle sitting in theater seats for that long. 😂

I loved it too. Kind of surprised they liked it better than Sleuth. Sleuth is quite brilliant and was an inspiration for Deathtrap. The first time I saw the theatrical version of Deathtrap was in a summer stock theater in New Hampshire and was brilliant and thrilling

I saw it in theaters, bought it on VHS, and later on DVD. It’s a favorite; love the twists. More people should know about it and see it. FYI: the East Hampton “Deathtrap” house is now owned by Robert Downey Junior; he and his wife did a lot of redesigning.

Glad Roger (who is wearing a tie again) mentioned John Belushi's death had occurred before he saw the film. He mentioned that in his print review and I can see from the date on here it was about a week before that he died.

Porky's really is a terrible movie with bad acting and an incredibly stupid premise, but it definitely is entertaining. I consider it to be one of those so-bad-it's-good movies.

Wow! The picture quality is really good for a Siskel and Ebert episode this old. I sneakily watched Porky’s late at night in 2015 (having first heard about it through AVGN). I liked it then, but I’ve matured since then.

I don’t know why I continue to watch their reviews or click on them when they appear in my feed. Occasionally they show decent taste, but for the bulk of their reviews they seem to have no idea what they are talking about. These are the same people who have walked out of horror films in the past after five minutes, but still review them as if they gave them a chance. I remembered them hating Porky’s I didn’t remember them basically insulting people who enjoyed the film.

I'd say it's a classic that hasn't aged well. These days, with people crying misogyny over someone not liking a film that happens to have a female lead, most would be shocked by it's portrayal of women. Audiences back then didn't think of such things, since it came out before the internet.

@@applescruff1969 People were misogynistic back then. It’s exemplified through the fact that in Revenge of the Nerds, a woman is literally raped and assaulted by deception against her will and it’s played for laughs.

I place the Porky's trilogy in that category of Guilty Pleasures. Any time the USA Channel ran a marathon of the series I'd settle down to watch them. But that was over 20 years ago and I haven't watched any of them since that time and don't know if my reaction would be the same. They are pretty stupid....but watchable.

Gene: German sailors and soldiers WERE NOT NAZIS!!! The Nazis party was just that; a party. Very few regular GERMAN troops were members of the Nazi party. It galls me every time people make that assumption. It's like calling American sailors Democract sailors and Marines Republican Marines. (Yes it's too late for him, but stop insulting Germans!)

Deathtrap felt like a poor man's Sleuth. The deceptions in Sleuth tied to the underlying theme of class warfare. Christopher Reeve and Michael Caine had terrific chemistry in DT but they can't salvage the film. I would have loved to have seen those two as a couple in a good drama or a better written comic thriller.

I would like to point out a couple of things. A) both of these dudes are beta males and thus when they see the little guy get punked they undoubtedly flash back to their own school days when these exact same jokes were most likely pulled on them. That is why they fail to see the humor, and that is why they don't want people seeing this film They are hoping to kill the memory of those jokes so that no one else will be subjected to them. B) I want to remind you that Roger Ebert called Porky's tasteless, and yet, what most people never seem to remember is that he WROTE the film Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0LRWQ94d4U4.html) you will get chills watching this terrible film because it is so cringe-worthy.

You have no fucking idea you’re talking about, do you? First of all, I could just as easily say the same thing about you getting picked on in school; it’s not a good argument. Second of all, unlike Porky’s, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls has a reason to be the way that it is, because it’s a satire, and it’s making fun of Hollywood, WHICH IS CONSTANTLY SPITTING OUT BULLSHIT! I see you on a lot of these videos. Let me ask you a genuine, serious question: Exactly what are you rebelling against?
