My aiming method-I draw an imaginary line from the center of the pocket through the center of the object ball. Where it terminates on the back of the object ball is point A. I look at the sphere of the cue ball and determine the closest point on the sphere to point A. That closest point is point B. Then shoot the cue ball to connect point A and B. With English, there are nuances.

There is a beautiful solution to finding the correct potting angle. Hit the part of the object ball that is farthest from the pocket. Best answer is usually the simplest one. Keep up the great work, absolutely LOVE your channel !

@themayorofflair

Browning Lui If you draw a line from the centre of the intended pocket through the centre object ball you will get your aiming point on the side not facing the pocket. This point is always the furthest point from the pocket due to the spherical nature of the ball.

Its a massive stop forward if you can correctly line up a full ball shot. If uncertain on a potting angle, this is what I will do first to calculate the potting angle. There are certain shots that seem to be more difficult to accurately hit straight (full ball) than others but when this is achieved, tricky potting angles make more sense. I had been making long off straight pots by deliberately hitting the ball on the 'wrong' side until I realised I didn't know where full ball contact was. Test your judgement by placing a piece of chalk along the cushion rail in a dead straight line between the white and object ball. if you cant make the object ball strike this area, you are incorrectly judging full ball so you need to learn this before you can progress. This method also removes the pressure of making a pot.

I did a lot of work with IMUs which measure acceleration / angular position (rotation). One could be fixed to the cue (they are small and very light), so to give feedback on accuracy of cueing. I guess fixed to butt of cue would be easiest. After a shot, the waveform could be analysed to graph the cueing stroke and identify any deviations from starting angle. Accelerometers could measure cueing speed as well as transition from back stroke to forward cueing. Just a thought... Any feedback welcome 👍 I could see as a training/practice aid to check cue delivery is straight throughout.

Hi! You could make a second video, showing the angles that the cue ball goes after hitting the object ball at each of those angles, so we can learn how to position the cue ball for the next shot. Greetings from Guarulhos, São Paulo, Brazil.
@andrewmason4004
@andrewmason4004 3 года назад
There are two other things I think worth mentioning about the 1/2 ball angle. The angle of the white after a 1/2 angle (plain ball) contact is the most predictable. Even if you hit slightly over or under 1/2 ball the trajectory of the white will be pretty much the same. This is useful in terms of future position. Second a 1/2 ball interaction gives you the best opportunity to send the white ‘sideways’ (if hit with screw).

This only applies under the conditions that you shoot every single shot with the same speed and a dead center cue ball hit. So it's a good basic, but potting snooker balls is way more complex unfortunately. Good video though, well explained and nuanced discussion of pros/cons and limitations 😊

So this is all relative to the player/person watching this looking to learn having ...quote John spenser "a good cue action allied with good judgement" so my point is this is only relative to the player. I see litterely hundreds of players a year that couldn't pot this way and further more a few really good players that would be absolutely ruined if they tried to work out potting this way. While I'm not knocking anyone for trying to help players improve its so important to understand that this is only relative to the player learning.

Do you compensate for the change in cut angle from cue ball speed consciously or unconsciously. I play blackball so I'm not sure just how transferrable it is but the speed of shot changes the cut angle noticeably. However I asked a qualified snooker coach before and he completely dismissed it so I'm not sure he thinks it applied to snooker/was unconsciously adjusting for it
@Breakfromlife
@Breakfromlife 5 лет назад
It probably won’t have any effect at all other than when the CueBall leaves the table significantly as it strikes another ball. At pace it will do this. Without the friction from the table slowing the CueBall down it can fractionally increase the contact time. Or even striking the object ball twice in succession. That can have an affect on the angle on any shot

easier to view each pot as a dead set plant with an imaginary extra ball then you know exactly where the white ball must make contact. if you were to film this shot and go through it frame by frame, the point at which object ball and cue ball meet will be a dead set plant. this is also great for blind shots where the object ball and pocket are not in your line of vision- thin cut backs for instance.

I can do up to 33 potting angles [(3,6,9,12,15,...) percentage] I use spin to fill the gap in between which is enough for me I also use maths to fill up my disadvantages. These are my disadvantages: stiff neck, double vision, left hand radial head subluxation, and right hand wrist broken which also make me unable lift up weights and do push-ups but I can still play Snooker at a 80% as good as you. These are not excuses. But saying you can do a lot better than currently try playing American pool as well then you can get out of most snookers and play 3 cushion billiards for extreme positioning. Try these first I have more.

Full half or quarter ball means u have to match cue & object ball together to find out whether you are reaching at object ball half or not...But if i see ronnie..he just takes the position,then stares only on object ball and hits..What is that difference?
@ryangarritty9761
@ryangarritty9761 4 года назад
The theory is simple enough : the cue ball has to meet the object ball on a direct line to the pocket. But the problem I have, apart from being utterly pants at the game, is that often when I get down to address the cue ball, it is no longer obvious where I should strike the object ball. This normally happens with acute potting angles.

The point of potting angles such as half ball is to make it easier to explain than degrees. Which don’t make the greatest sense on some shots. Like how moving closer to the ball can change it’s potting angle. But not necessarily the angle in degrees
@mohdfairuzahmad5091
@mohdfairuzahmad5091 4 года назад
I hope i could explain everything to make simple on potting angle. Go find a snooker table and make a test of my method.. 1st rule what ever angle that on your line of sight between 0 deg to 30 degree is actually is a full ball, stand straight with your belly button pointed to cue ball and object ball line up in a straight line you need to hit object ball with a full ball contact. Before you aproach for cueing position keep your eye sight at the pocket only and then approach it to cueing position, never ever look at the object ball at all if you look or peek you will be miss.. When on cueing position just focus on white ball only and then deliver it with the side spot you want.. From this position when you look properly you are actually see everything as a full ball.. Its hard to explain in here unless you give it a try.. Rule 2 ghost ball methot not work. All you need to do stand again with your belly button pointed to white ball and allign to object ball in a straight line, then any angle you want to pot now just keep your eye sight focus only at the pocket hole at the same time while you approach for cueing position keep still your eye sight only at the pocket still, if you peek youl be miss, now once you on cueing position your body actually already allign its contact potting point naturally without you been notice.. Now Just focus to white ball and deliver it straight to natural line that your body created.. And never ever changed your mind!! Give it a try.. Potting are not hard, you need a methot to loosen up your stress in a game, to focus allot of thing on game are only give you an extra pressure.. All you need is trust your Insting.. Cappish!!

Heres a question for you. l have been playing pool and snooker for many years. Started off with Pool on the 7ft tables. l had a 9 ft snooker table for 5 years. So anyway. years later and not playing so much anymore. l was in a Pool and snooker club which had American 9 ball tables .which are 9ft long. l played brilliantly on my own potting absolutely every ball. The form just was there. You get them days of course . And then someone offered me a game of snooker. And l found myself not potting anything. Was l still using the pool ball angles ?, but surely that does not change. l could not work out why l was missing every ball. Is it because snooker balls are smaller than American pool balls. Not sure what the reason for this was. I was using the same angles as on the pool table but missing the snooker balls. I think l had to use less angle on the snooker table. to start potting, but it seemed not right but started to work. Can you explain this phenomenon?

@SeaFox251
@SeaFox251 4 года назад
I was struggling with aiming badly, but I think I found another way that fits me better than the ghost ball method. It's called (I think) the fractional ball method. Basically what I'm doing is that I imagine a line between the center of the cue ball and the object ball, then I take a look at the pocket and I'm trying to figure out what kind of angle I need to pot the object ball. For example, if there's a 14 degree angle between the object ball and the pocket (in respect of the CB - OB center line) I'm aiming the tip of my cue 1/4 on the side of the object ball from it's center. It helped me because I couldn't really use my eyes to imagine the ghost ball behind the cue ball, so I had to find a physically existent point to aim at.

Maybe it's really down to instincts built up by hours and hours of practice, but others say that you have to practice "logically". So I don't really know, different people say different things. One half says that you only have to practice, practice, practice and oh, do not forget, practice. While the other half says that you always have to analyze yourself with techniques like this.

@@SeaFox251 I agree with you, there many people saying many things, but one thing we have to be sure, nothing can be improving without practice, so let's do it.. Thank you dude and good luck for you.
