Snooker on a Pool Table | Thorsten Hohmann's Maximum 147 Commentary

Pool World Champion Thorsten Hohmann has a new RU-vid channel where he takes on any drill or challenge anyone throws at him. Subscribe here: / toasti404
In this video, Thorsten took a break from pool to give snooker a shot. Lucky for him, Thorsten was playing on a smaller table with bigger pockets, so the task wasn't quite as tough, but a maximum break on any table is no joke. In order to complete a 147 maximum break, a player must pocket a red ball followed by the black ball 15 times in a row without missing and then get all the colored balls in order to finish it off. Red balls stay in when pocketed, but the other balls come out until all the red balls are gone.
Leave a comment for Thorsten and go subscribe to his new channel here: / toasti404

Love this video, Thorsten. I’m a huge snooker fan primarily and seeing this done was great fun. Also, loved the respect you show to the game with the shout outs. In a world where so many people are tribal and “pick a side”, it was nice to hear. Thank you.

That was so refreshing to see a 147 break on a pool table with pool balls. Probably the fastest 147 ever, barring any faster from Ronnie o Sullivan. Thank u Thorsten for this brilliant display of cue ball control and shot making. Love from Singapore!

Great to see the high respect for snooker players. :) Incidentally, if anyone thinks this is easy just because it's on a pool table, I encourage them to try it for themselves. Different tables have different characteristics and certain shots may be easier on certain tables, but maintaining concentration, technique and discipline takes skill on any table. A lot of time is spent arguing over which game is hardest, when it could be spent playing a wide variety of them and learning different key skills from each.

A big difference is that when you play snooker on a pool table, it is a lot more crowded, and a lot of position shots aren’t possible on such a crowded table
@TheProf62
@TheProf62 2 года назад
@@Isuc_at_poolgolf Exactly. There is a lot more margin for positional error if you can pot accurately on a snooker table. Likewise, if you can get good position, the pockets and distances are more forgiving to inaccurate potting on a pool table, particulary the 9ft American ones. Then the 6-7ft English pool tables are another beast again, exercising your ability to navigate clusters and get balls in open play. None of these things are trivial, and playing on a mixture of tables will make you a better player all round.
@Isuc_at_poolgolf
@Isuc_at_poolgolf 2 года назад
@@TheProf62 I totally agree It’s really funny that many snooker jerks only judge the games’ difficulty by the size of the table and the pockets, and they’re like, “pool only kiddo game”, “snooker plays position more precise” Well, snooker has a lot of room for players to play position, and even if you didn’t play good positions, you can always play on another colour. But in pool, take 9 ball as an example, one bad position may cause you to lose your turn or maybe even the whole rack. In my opinion, sometimes you actually need to play positions more precisely in pool than snooker.
@Isuc_at_poolgolf
@Isuc_at_poolgolf 2 года назад
@@TheProf62 but well, maybe people should just stop comparing them, they are two totally different games with different skills respectively. No game is harder than another, just as we don’t compare baseball and cricket. And we should all agree that they’re both entertaining and amazing games, so let’s all just enjoy these games:)

I've played pool all my life and would say I'm quite decent at it, I often clear all the balls. I've also played snooker, and it's difficult to put more than a few balls in a row. The difficulty leap in snooker is incredible. Only once in my life I would say I was ok at snooker, my highest break being 48, which was one summer holiday in high school where I spent nearly every day playing 6h of snooker. 1 month after going back to school not playing snooker, and ever since, ive struggled to put more than 3-4 balls in a row in....

@@chili015 To be fair to Ronnie, Thorsten went for the split after second shot here, and it did him miracles. Literally every red was playable, so it was only the matter of how fast he could pot them. I don't see him thinking about this position too much. While Ronnie had to do some brain work as well, and adjust position more and more.

Well done! A snooker 147 is no small achievement, even on a smaller table with larger balls! Also, many thanks to Kamui for posting this demo of snooker; we need much more snooker here in the U.S.! Having said that, however, it's also only fair to mention, as Thorsten did during his 147, that actual Snooker - on a 12-foot table with smaller balls and more challenging pockets - is an exceptionally challenging task. Plus, if I may, I would add that the game of snooker is not only a competition that can be won or lost, but also documents degrees of excellence given that it includes "century breaks" and "147's" among the achievements that snooker players may aspire to (as well as wins or losses), hence a snooker match has multiple levels of interest for both players and fans. Plus, of course, snooker is not unlike a game of chess in that it requires much more strategic play and cue ball control than do the games of 9-ball or 8-ball or even straight pool. Lastly, snooker in recent years has amassed quite an international following, and the international pro tour includes frequent competition events and some very serious prize money. We need more snooker in the U.S.! Well done! Thank you again!

This was actually a million times harder than it was made to look in this video Thorsten Hohmann is a precise technical Pro,on a pool table there is a lot less room for error even if the pockets are much more forgiving ,that quick rhythm is tough to maintain for pretty much all pool and even snooker players only Ronnie i think can play at this quick pace thinking very fast on the fly that is a natural gift very few people have in life and its a sure sign of an incredibly successful person that is always high on confidence .Rollie has one hell of a fine teacher in Thorsten Hohmann a true living legend : )

I live in the states and there’s no snooker tables anywhere nearby where I live. I did have some questions though. Was there a reason you didn’t break properly? Or did you leave a red in the open for the 147 purpose? Thanks in advance, and again thanks for the QUALITY content. My friends and I will be very happy to add this in our pool routine.

At first, I totally dislike snooker (because this sport is always seen in a negative light, here in Malaysia) but after seeing a video about Ronnie O'Sullivan's fastest maximum break last month, as well as witnessing Mark Selby's 4th title recently, I started to fall in love with this sport (given that I'm always familiar with billiards since I was a little boy) and I would love to become Malaysia's first snooker champion someday, especially after witnessing Pandelela Rinong's success in claiming her first gold medal (while representing Malaysia) in the 2021 FINA Diving World Cup yesterday! 😍
