Who would hsve thought in the 80s when davis was dominating snooker with that ice cold persona that he would end up being one of the most loved and respected sportsmen britain has ever produced. A true legend...
Even though he was, to begin with, the most arrogant git in the game, you can't help but admire his genius as a player and latterly as a pundit, a true and sincere ambassador of the game. God bless him
If I watch the old vids I never see arrogance in him. He was a little shy and vastly superior in his chosen profession, these traits in combination often get misinterpreted as arrogance.
People seem to appreciate winners when they are not winning no more or retired. Its sad really.... Lewis Hamilton in F1 will probly get that when he has retired.
This is the respect for parents that seem to be missing today, his love shines through for his parents. brilliant guy and so down to earth should have got a knighthood.
No, and if they would present it to him, he should refuse it as it is presented by people who never contributed anything to society. He is so much above that. He is too good for a knighthood...We are citizens, not subjects...
Steve was blessed as a player, and to have a father that loved him is also very special, what a great human being is Steve Davis, one of my very favorite players.
I like Steve Davis. The way he talked about his father was just beautiful. Obviously proud of his boy. It made me cry at such a great relationship they had.
The ultimate pro, the ultimate gentleman, the ultimate snooker legend. Honestly there’s not enough words you could come up with to sum up this man’s greatness. It’s my dream to one day play a frame with either Steve or Stephen. Both my life heroes.
To see Steve as one of the best ever, show emotion and deep reflection, humility, and not be aloof is a sign of a great player, gentleman and ambassador of the sport. Well played sir.
Real gentle man, great snooker champion, funny as hell, first met Steve in Toronto 1978, at the CNE grounds for the Canadian Snooker Champioships, a pleasure to have watched him all these years. Cheers Steve.
My Dad gave me the snooker bug…. We played snooker every Saturday for years… went each year to the Masters at Wembley since 1983….. my Dad passed away in 98 … he worshiped Steve … my wife and I went to the last Wembley Masters and sat close to Steve … Oh my god.. I felt my Dads presence… thank you Steve your a legend …
Biggest player ever. The way He treats other, passion of winning, tactical playing, etc, etc. Every one ows him so much, Jimmy, Stephen, Jud, .............
I used to hate Steve in the 80's, it was always Higgy and Jimmy and a few others but now aged 50+ I now class him as the ultimate pro and a complete and utter legend and should in my opinion be knighted for services to the game. Turns out that he is cool, friendly and an emotianal guy. I remember seeing his dad at many tournaments in the 80's and never thought how much he meant to him. A TRUE legend, no more words needed. Oh, and my bird used to fancy him and had a signed photo on her dresser.......grrrrr x
Me too as I mention here thought he was a piece of sht Tory ,but all his demeanor was more down to Barry hearn ,fair play to him and Steve good people .
Didn’t like him in the 80s because he was so good. Love him now and think some things he comes out with are hilarious. Your dedication to snooker is exemplary your a class act on and off the table. Legend!!!
Come on, what a perfect bond between a father and a son. How wonderful it is to start something because of ur father and end it because of him as well, I can't say anything else ...
My absolute sporting idol!!! Fantastic man🎉....I am so into snooker and its mainly Steve who first perked my interest in the game....LOVE Steve, and Snooker ❤️
Its superb and hard to watch at the same time this , the value of good parents never too be underestimated , emotional stuff , great man paying respect to the right people ,not focussing on himself despite what he achieved.
Steve emotion towards his dad don't blame him why not him and his dad a team they started together I love that learned my game off Steve rest in peace Bill you made steve the greatest player I always like he was a great champion and ambassador for snooker best in the 80 s the greatest rest in peace Bill davis a legend always like steve top man like Steve never forgotten
Hey may not be the greatest player to ever pick up a snooker cue (I'd put him third behind O'Sullivan and Hendry respectively), but he is probably the most important. Without him, we probably wouldn't have had an O'Sullivan or a Hendry. He changed the entire perception of the game and turned it into a passion for others. A true gentleman and a true legend.
I was lucky enough to play Steve davis when he visited our club in Kent and he presented me with a hamper of fruit lol the man has always been my idol in the world of snooker what an excellent character and the greatest man to visit the green bays !!
Respect to Steve I played now because he was my idol great player the best in the 80 s defo. Rip bill davis your son was a champion greatest in the 80s always learned my game off Steve. He's the best
Yeah my snooker hero spent my youth trying to copy his style made me win 2 club championships and a club championship at another local town , also reminds me of how my dad would spend endless hour's watching me practice thanks for the memories steve x
So sad when Steve breaks down remembering his Dad’s devotion to his development and early involvement in the game. He’s such a heartfelt person, so honest “my Dad was the reason I played” 😢
My Dad was a Higgins Supporter and shouted at the tv when he missed against Steve, while I was growing up. I was just a kid n loved watching snooker. My Dad has since passed away. He did get to play with Jimmy White who was doing a exhibition with Alex, cheers for the memories Mr Davis. Thanks for the clip
Steve loved your games growing up, passed you in McCurtain Street in Cork on your gambling foray, was numbstruck when we looked at each other passing by, if there is a next time will def say hello.
Your the man Mr Davis seeing you play when younger was incredible and always wanted to be a pro but never good enough , but every time I watched you play it was of down the working mans clubs n Snooker Snooker nothing but Snooker .Thank you for hours of pleasure
I agree with Scott Hobson. In the eighties, I heard Steve described as a "snooker robot". To see his eyes filling with tears like this about his dad is quite moving.
A great guy, great snooker player, maybe the players of today could still learn from him, not the in game itself, but how to conduct one’s self in a professional manner.
