Snorkeling in the Amazon River basin can be both dangerous and rewarding. In this Fincast come along as Mike Tuccinardi takes us underwater to the natural world that includes popular aquarium fish. John interviews Mike as he describes the beautiful underwater video he recorded in the Rio Negro river -- one of the largest tributaries to the Amazon. Mike reveals how he recorded the video, and discusses the fish that appear on camera. He also talks about swimming unknowingly over and around anacondas and dangerous electric eels.

As a Brazilian (from the southern state of Paraná), I must say I'd never imagined that the sources of tropical aquarium fish were so much alike the aquarium the supply themselves - proportions kept aside, of course.

I so want to do that. this is brilliant. more video of fish in the wild please. I'm a great believer in establishing honest biotopes and this sort of video is really inspiring. thanks so much I really enjoyed that!

my god this is pure gold, amazing how the actual tetras we get in a store actually live, now I do realize why the hide throughout of the day, the water they live in tends to be a little dark with lots of organic material, but in the end is cristaline water, great video, congratulations.

I really enjoyed this video. I have a 25 gallon natural tank set up to mimic the freshwater stream by my yard where I live in Alabama. I would love more info about natural biotopes

Tetras in their natural environment - ahhh, nothing like some nice, murky, dirty water filled with tannins Tetras inside of a fish tank - THE WATER HASN'T BEEN CHANGED IN 2 WEEKS. THE LIGHT, SLOWLY FADING.... GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD. ☠️

Thanks Cole. It's really interesting Isn't it? We see coral reefs all the time ... but it's rare to see fresh water fish in the wild.

Its the same with plants. In the wild you will see several species growing together, mixed, grasses mixed with taller stem plants. Just like the fish do. Great video - reminds me of Theodore Roosevelt's Amazon travels diary.

The other thing is fresh water is not like seawater - you get temperature swings. Wild fish are used to it.

Can the researchers do some freshwater fish research in the Philippines? There's been no study about that despite it having different bodies of water.

Yes please. I also thought of that when i visited Allen, Samar for a commercial shoot before. We went to a small creek with a fall and i saw tons of shrimps! I dont know what kind of shrimps tho. Thats when i dreamt of surveying all freshwater areas in the country

It's sad to think they're leaving this beautiful place to travel for days in a plastic bag, then end up in a, probably too small, aquarium in someone's living room.

Its great to see the Natural Habitat and the look of their environment. However I am against taking fish from the wild for many, many reasons. Ideally there is no need to take fish from the wild as nowadays we should have the Equipment and resources to breed in captivity.. In my country it is illegal to take from the wild, I just hope that there are limits on the Quantity that can be taken as this is now animals become extinct.
