Too real. I've had to cut my braid three times in my life. First when my grandma died, and my wife cut it for me. Second when my wife died, and our hunka daughter cut it for me. Hair was still too short to braid when my dad died. Third when my elder brother died who had taught me that's what you do, and it was covid times so I had to cut it myself alone in my house. That was one of the loneliest, hardest moments out of all the covid time.

Everything they know is because I'm teaching them what I'm learning about both cultures, neither my family (Chichimeca) nor my husband's side (Cherokee) want to have anything to do with educating younger generations about their cultures. It's enraging and saddening that they'd rather forget than carry on such rich cultures and traditions. But fuck em, I'm not giving up and the more I learn, the more my life and personality makes sense. You're right, it does bring us to life and I'm seeing it in me and my children.
