I would look at possibly buying a couple more roof rails for the commander to place the tent on. I think a rack would just be an extra barrier.

I ran a rooftop tent on my commander with the factory rails. I had to drill some holes in the roof rails for the brackets. No issues with it for years. I also mounted My awning to the roof rack with the provided bracket, utilizing the factory mount screw for the roof rack crossrail and some hardware that was included.
