Thanks for the report. I did the peak two weeks ago. It's unfortunate that they closed the wilderness area now that there are good Snowshoe conditions.
Yes, full closure for such an extended period seems OTT to me. One could easily imagine it more dangerous after extended freeze-thaw than now. I recognise the counterbalancing arguments, but basically ... mountains are dangerous. We know and accept that. "What about SAR?" starts to look like the tail wagging the dog.
If it's closed, how are you up there? Is it technically illegal to be there now or did you get some kind of permit? Do you need a permit everytime you get up there to report?
Can you please monetize. I personally don't mind watching an ad If it means that you can continue with these trail reports. If somebody has an issue of watching a small ad for the effort that you do then they better have donated a lot of money to make up for the information you provide.
It is not as simple as that. I don't get sufficient viewing time to be able to monetize, partly because I try to keep the videos relatively short so that people will get the key safety messages, and partly because I generally only do these videos seasonally in winter and northbound PCT season when they help the most. I want to focus on keeping hikers informed and safe, not on churning out vacuous content just to maintain viewing statistics. If you find Trail Report videos useful and would like to donate, thank you, but I understand if you can't. sanjacjon.com/donate Safe hiking, Jon.
