After watching a few episodes of everybody's favorite t.v. guinea pigs testing different fuel economy myths, I decided to try and do a test of my own.
I remember them mentioning the myth that a dirty car would get better economy than a clean car, and their testing showed that golf ball dimples actually WOULD increase fuel econ.
I wanted to try it, but didn't have 200lbs of clay, didn't want to cover my truck in something that would wash off in the rain or fly off going down the road, and didn't want to spend a few hours molding dimples.
After some thought, I figured I could get plastic wall panels and cut them to shape, then mount them to the vehicle with clamps or existing screw holes.
Since I couldn't find any plastic wall panels with 2-4 inch half sphere bulges set in an offset pattern I decided to try and use some snow fencing on a frame.
I forgot to check my fuel econ before I started this test, so I still need to see if this is improving or hurting my mileage.
"Why would you buy the stuff if you end up finding out that it's just a waist of money?" you ask?
Well, I needed the pipe for other projects and the snow fencing will come in handy later for actually helping control snow in winter.
I just threw this together to test a theory.
There will be a part 2 and possibly more as I get some control numbers and (If it works) Make more mods.
