Am living in the SW corner of SD. Yesterday say a flock of these that was awesome. Being new to the area I had to ask what kind of bird were they. Wa la - Snow geese. It was awesome to watch them fly south of us in one group. Awesome creation!!!
I find humans discussing unsustainable populations ironic and humorous. My best friend during the first Covid lockdown was a Snow Goose. What a wonderful creature !!
I'm searching for an explanation for the explosive growth of snow goose populations, but I didn't hear it in this video. The only aspect of their life cycle that seems different than other goose species, whose populations have not exploded, is the location of nesting habitat. Unlike other geese, snow geese nest in the Arctic tundra, and perhaps global warming and the melting tundra has provided a lot more nesting habitat???
I think you meant "the family will stay there through the first summer" (not winter)...once things start freezing they are out of there. But good video.
Excellent video. I would just like to add that I dont think its fair to frame them as problematic when they are only seen as problematic to “human progress” bc a lack of habitat, they likely had even larger flocks precolonization, I think humans destruction of their habitat should be mentioned if we are bringing up ecological impacts. Thanks for sharing!
Love hunting snow geese and love the video man, can I use this video for future encounters with people who disagree with shooting waterfowl because this is perfect
