The fascinating story of Snow Leopardess took another thrilling twist as she dominated her rivals with an outstanding round of jumping around the most famous fences in the world to win the Unibet Becher Chase at Aintree.
Making her debut over the Grand National obstacles, she proved an absolute natural, putting in huge leaps when she met them on a stride and showing her versatility when getting in close.
With half a mile to go half the field had cried enough as Snow Leopardess enjoyed a 10-length lead - but Aidan Coleman was keen to save a bit for the famous run-in, allowing Hill Sixteen and the resurgent Ryan Mania to close to within two lengths.
The mare appeared to have done enough reaching the elbow, but as so many have before she found the final 100 yards the hardest as Hill Sixteen gained with every stride, ultimately just failing to get there by just a nose.

What a mare. Just love her. Jumped like a stag and kept finding for pressure.

I know the fences aren’t what they use to be and maybe I’m biased cause I backed her but it was the best round of jumping I’ve seen in a long time

ANOTHER fantastic training performance from Sandy Thomson with the 2nd. He really is good with inherited horse's that have lost enthusiasm. Just denied by a gutsy mare.

What is the horse in 2nd place called? He did well to almost win. If both trained by same yard, it’s likely they’re both capable of being 🥇

What a tough mare she is. Bred by the owners and had a foal by Sir Percy then comes back and does that. Alice Plunkett was so excited great to see. Family had a day to remember. Aidan Coleman gave her the perfect ride too.

Very stramge UR imo. 2 non finishes out of 2 over the fences doesnt usually scream National winner but I can help but feel that 50s is absolutely the wrong price. He obviously has it all to do of top weight but I could easily see him finishing ahead of Minella Times on these more favourable handicap terms. Worth a bet for me at the prices though I still think Any Second Now is the one to beat.

I think JonJos still punching the turf 🤣. I think Chris's dream got massive E/W chance but the forecast rain will help snow leopardess massively I love her back story too, fiddlerontheroof the main bet for me can't see this out the places come on the tizzards!

Great race. It's Domaine de L'isle for the record. Pronounced Domenn duh leel. Pity that Becher's has become a joke fence now. I was walking round there the other day and Valentine's is bigger. Anyway big cheer for the winner.

Valentines brook has always been higher than Bechers Brook, Bechers Brook was formidable in the past because of the sheer drop it had on the landing side but since it got levelled out its no longer a force anymore.

@@Zarkava8 Yes, I think you've got a point. The Foinavon, which used to be 4 foot six I think, now looks about four foot. I don't think all the fences needed to be modified.

Rain forecast all week including Saturday. Imagine another 2001. As a spectator that day, I've never been so wet with my clothes on in my life. It's just as well our skin is waterproof. I can see Snow Leopardess going off favourite on Saturday if the ground goes bottomless.

Hi thanks for sharing. What’s ground does ❄️ 🐆 prefer? Thanks for your insight. It’s definitely good we’re waterproof. Here in Scotland now it pelting down all last night and all day. I backed the Scottish national winner and I’m looking for my first aintree winner in a long time... God bless

A thrilling finish to the Becher Chase where sadly, Vieux Lion Rouge was one of the casualties. In the closing stages, Snow Leopardess was leading but Hill Sixteen was closing particularly inside the last few hundred yards, both flashed passed the post, the former hung on, Snow Leopardess.

A tough, honest mare. I take the view, though, that she'll not get the trip in the Grand National. Like to be proved wrong.
@rohansrider
@rohansrider 2 года назад
Sadly, I agree with you . But she is as honest as the day. Wow, a grey mare winning the GN. Last mare to win was Nickel Coin in 1951.
@keithknight1686
@keithknight1686 2 года назад
@@rohansrider The problem Aidan Coleman will have, given how the mare jumped in the Becher, is that she'll jump her way to the front, using up too much energy. If he could drop her in and she jumped with less flamboyance, she might prove me wrong. I have waited the best part of 3-years to see Santini in a long-distance chase and at the moment it will be his honour this year to carry my money.
@rohansrider

@@keithknight1686 You make a very good point,. often horses in the GN who jump well and lead, run out of steam as it's a bridge too far. She needs soft gong too which she will get as the forecast is rain. Fingers crossed.!

These fences are a joke! They're not feared in any way whatsoever, way to many alterations over the years. The national course used to be feared, survival of the fittest, not anymore.
