This was just after a heavy snowfall with a flash freeze. The city of Ottawa Plow was doing some residential streets. #snow #snowday #snowfall #winter #snowremoval #snowplow #mack #macktrucks
Growing up in Massachusetts I used to feel sorry for my friends living down South. There are few things sweeter than learning at 6:15 a.m. on a January weekday that there would be no school. Loved knowing I would be home with my sibling for a day of snow ball fights and as I aged, snow removal. I grew up on a farm so that meant there was no rest on those "snow days." One of the things I loved learning about as a teenager was how to operate a snow plow and the satisfaction of helping out neighbors with their snow removal. Where I live now we receive very little snow. Always felt our two sons missed out on something that prepared me for adulthood.
Plowing residential streets with a funnel or speed plow is not fun. It is much easier with a straight blade that articulates. Parked cars make it harder, got enough to watch out for when plowing, traffic, pedestrians, people pushing snow into the road. Then add parked cars. It is all good. If it was easy everyone could do it
Can tell that driver was an experienced Veteran at plowing snow. And appreciate his skills and handling of that big rig. Years ago I worked in Grounds Maintenance for my local City Schol district. In the Winter when we had to plow snow.we had a big Ole Brockway along with the regular 4X4s the Brockway was what we called the Back breaker, due to having to use a lot of leg & foot pressure to push the clutch in. Let's just say there was a lot of chunks taken out of the curbing on the outer edges of the parking lots where we pushed / piled the snow, even my Supervisor took out a few prieces in several parking lots and bus circles whenever he drove it
Mack makes 1 great truck for this type of work. I use drive a 800 45 to 48 tons a load 10+ loads daily totally off-road. Only trouble was tires trying take the punishment.
I plowed for 10 yrs lol how’s that no breakdowns going hahahaha!!👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻 keep on pushing!!🤘🏻one early morning out plowing I had a pin break loose for the plow mount and used a tine on a pitch fork through there shoved in it to get me back to home base!! Tines of a pitch fork are spring steel heat treated very strong and useful in a pinch
For real. There is no struggle here. As a plow driver myself, the only struggle I see here is a cameraman out to catch any mistake or assign fault to the slightest wobble. Truck was working great. Slow and steady = accident free.
@@richardparsons1 actually the camera me who likes snow removal spoke to the driver before and told him was making a video and if by chance he were to screw up would not publish it that being said he is good operator and does his job well he said around the corners the snow bunched up making it difficult
@@silverado15 thanks for the clarification. I guess when I think of a plow struggling it’s because the snow is up to the axles or higher… maybe 2-3 feet of snow. I had one time that I had to lift the plow because I couldn’t push it but with my 4WD was still at least able to drive through it. I ended up skimming that one down a few inches at a time until I was down to pavement.
First time I saw your video I really enjoyed it so much I had to subscribe I hope your others are good. Keep up the great work and God bless all the ones who work so hard and so many hrs. Keeping our roads clear!!!
Nice that people park on the street. My town you get $100 ticket first offense per vehicle, $ 300 second offense, third your towed or booted and talk to the judge to get your car back.
The combos work ok to clear subdivisions. Having the oneway on makes things a little more challenging then if you've got a reversible but it's not that bad really.
interesting how the truck is dropping sand right infront of the rear tires. Have never seen that before as they usually drop it at the back of the truck.
@@silverado15that truck isn’t working hard. You’d need 2’ plus of snow for that truck to really work hard. A 3/4 ton pickup wouldn’t even struggle to push that snow
The only struggle I see is them having to go around cars on the side of the road when all those people have driveways. Here in Massachusetts you get towed or a huge fine for parking in the road before, during, and after snowfall.
Driver also said the snow was bunching up around the corner and we had a flash freeze overnight so under the fresh snow there was a layer of slush we only have the parking bylaw downtown
before they video was made spoke with the plow truck driver he mentioned there was a layer of heavy slush under the snow which made it very hard for him. That being said he looks in the video like everything is under control
Before the video was made spoke with the driver he mentioned he was have a hard time because of the flash freeze there was a layer of slush under the snow however in the video he is movin
