Couloir Tournier, also called GoPro couloir on some 3 valleys piste maps, is the steepest run in the Meribel Valley. It was pretty rough conditions, but I bet it's lovely on a powder day!

Crazy how the camera + your riding makes this look like a blue run! I was in Meribel in Jan, this run was still closed but just looking from the gondola it is scary steep!!

I did this run many years ago with a skier friend who was working a season in a chalet at the time. We were also with a snowboard instructor (ESF) as he wanted to tag along on a day off. He was a hard boot rider and yet he tore down here at a pace I could not quite fathom. He was the most badass 55yr old I ever met!

Nice work! Quite a leg burner, that one. Its a shame the camera flattens it so much, I'd love (if thats the right word) to see it show the real angle... ie hellish! lol Have you done a vid on how to ride really steep terrain? I could do with those tips before I head out

Hi Malcom, off-topic question: What's the difference in relation to ride experience from a wide board to a regular board? I'm talking about the Korua Otto 157, which is 1cm wider (waist) than my current board.

this is identical to diamant noire in Flaine. Except it is a gondola instead of a chairlift and you enter from the opposite side

I'n not a good snowboarder, but is it fun to ride on such difficult areas(in general), or hard slopes? Is there any pleasure? Either way Malcolm, you nailed it in this vid

Haha, to be honest, not so much in these conditions. I generally prefer carving a green or blue run, or riding steeper stuff when there's fresh snow!

Hi, I have been watching your videos on up/down unweighted turns and when to use them. What turns were you mainly using on this run? Did you have to check your speed in any of the turns to keep the speed down? And finally on something this steep how narrow a line can you realistically take and keep the speed under control? Thanks. Mostly down unweighted on the variable terrain then up unweighted on the piste, can't remember if I cut this video before the piste or not, Yes a fair bit of scrubbing off speed too, not great conditions to be honest so not the best technical riding!

Just get good at short radius turns, practice knee steering as that is essential here!

A genuine question from someone who has very very little experience snowboarding, do you actually find that enjoyable? I just can’t see how spending most of your time trying not to die is more enjoyable than flying down a nice blue or red at a comfortably controllable speed but still fast enough to have fun? Experienced boarders answers intrigues me.
