Also, no toilets at the cafe half way up. And nothing found at the top either unless accessed by the train? There were people sat eating at tables inside the train station at the very top somehow..? Best advice I can give to anyone, don’t listen to all these help guides telling you to take everything you can incase of emergency, it’s harder carrying all that food and drink up with you to only carry most of it back down again unused. I carried about an extra 10kg which could have been left behind and would have made my walk a lot easier. Sticks are for those who’ve already had a hip replaced, and shorts are for idiots still showing off their new leg tattoos, it’s cold up there, no one believes otherwise just because you’re wearing shorts, you’re not brave, you’re just stupid. 👍🏼
This , by far , is the best video on Snowdonia hiking guide yet it has only 10k views. Other videos have way more like 50k and more just because they have less substance but more silliness . Thank you for this video mate, you have drawn the picture of the entire hiking with surgical precision.
@@mirzasady not really, I mean you can walk near the edge if you want, but if not just stick to the path, there is no real exposure on this route at any point.
Yes, the car park is opposite the railway, you can park there and then follow the route up. I do know parking changes took effect in snowdonia last year, so it may be that now, parking needs to be pre booked, so I'd just double check.
@@philheath4321 you can find campsites in & around llanberis yes, but if you mean wild camp, it's possible yes, but not very wild it's a very busy tourist route so you'd need to pitch very late and leave very early, and obviously stick to good wild camping protocols. Campsites are plentiful around the area though.
This was just what I needed to settle my nerves before attempting Snowdon. You’ve helped make my mind up about which path I want to take! Keep up the great work
Car park is £6 for the day. Just a point, the train is not running to the summit until next year and when it does it is not always available for one way travel so be prepared to walk back down. Great video for someone who has not been before. 👍 my favourite route is Watkin path up and South ridge down. Well impressed with the video and editing..you will have to give me some lessons one day!
Just to add to that, currently (May 2021) it seems only return tickets are available and not going all the way to the summit (and only a 30m stop at the top). Cafe is closed 🥲
Too many comments to search through to check if this has already been mentioned but you cannot guarantee a train back down the mountain. You cannot book a one way return ticket. You CAN book a one way UP the mountain and hope for a spot on the return train but you cannot book one. (based on current Feb 2023 search of tkt purchase) Train doesn’t go to summit until May 13 so you need to walk the rest to the top but then not guarantee train back down. (Basically need to plan for a complete walk back down to car park). The 1/2 hour train stop at Clogwyn station wouldn’t allow you to reach summit and get back for return train ride. Hope this helps someone 😊
If you can find a spot to camp then I guess you could however snowdon is the busiest summit in the UK day & Night with all the Snowdon night hikes & 3 peak challenges on every week. So it'd be difficult to be at the summit undisturbed on any night. I could be done if you bivvy instead of camp, and are selective about where you decide to put your camera. I wouldn't leave it on the summit itself though as there will be a lot of people passing by it at night also.
Did my first hike using the miners path last week, which was difficult as a beginner but manageable. It was wet, windy and cloudy, so would love to do this route on a clearer day.
Awesome rahi well done! Snowdon is best enjoyed on a clear day, but I'm stoked you got something out of, check out some of the other route guides, and give them a go, every single one has its own unique perspective 👌
this was so helpful! walked up a mountain for the first time ever today (at 24 🙈... also I live in Wales so super embarrassing haha) and hoping to eventually get fit enough to do Snowdon! Thanks for the tips
This here is a first class video buddy Thank you very much, me and a friend are planning to go there this autumn and this has helped out so much…. Appreciate
@@derekibison6644 no not at all, the Crib is the only one that has exposure that is unavoidable. All others ways have no exposure, unless you you want to experience it but that's your choice. 👍
What a fantastic video. I also have the OS maps app and its brilliant. Just so people know...you plan your rout on your desk top then, download it to your phone. The blue arrow shows you where you are at all times so if you deviate at all you can put it right, in theory you should never get lost :-)
At which point in video are you at Clogwyn Station as sometimes train only stops there is the path easy to find if walking down from that station? with a 6yr old child wanted to just walk one way
The train will only be running to Clogwyn Station between 1st April & 3rd June. If you want to walk down from Clogwyn it'll be easy enough to hit the main tourist path from there. It's just south of the station stop itself. Hiking down shouldn't be a problem as this is on the main tourist path. I obviously don't know the capability of you or your child though. I can only presume you'll have done a bit of hiking before 👍
@@qualitymountainday Thank you Yes I just had a notification on my booking Im ok with just making to Clogwyn - then found your post as Wasn’t sure if it would be suitable. Really appreciate your post. Yes she’s got more energy than I do we do regular walks and 3miles one way down I feel will be a good first challenge (with lots of breaks for me!)
I prefer the snowdon ranger, or Rhyd-du paths, the Llanberis path is my least favorite, its long and relatively boring and packed. But the best route up is via Y Lliwedd, but that has a short section of mild scrambling. You can do a nice loop from teh Nantgwynant car park, up the path to the disused mine, cross the grass slopes up to Gallt y Wenallt, follow the ridge along to Y Lliwedd, then up to the summit (up scree here but not bad), then back down the watkin path, or Allt Maenderyn, stopping in the valley to have a dip in the pools and enjoy the waterfalls, then back down to the car park.
Hello my friend, I want to visit snowdon next weekend. I tried to use your route on OS maps but for some reason it's not working. Can you fix this please? Thanks.
Start point for the llanberis path in this video is basically opposite the Snowdon mountain railway, but the actual path begins once you leave the road and head through the gate at grid ref: 582589
I should have seen this first haha but still was able to see most. The only thing was that there was no buses to return and I had to pay 60$ to go bagnor to catch the train... I dont know if it was worth to rent a car but yeah..
Cor that's unlucky about the bus, I mean next time you could try finding some others who could car share on socials, might make it a bit more affordable, glad you enjoyed your day though!
Thank you for this video! My boyfriend and I will go to Snowdonia this weekend and we don't have a clue what to expect. Good thing I've watched your video and made me calm my nerves a bit. The views are amazing so it will definitely worth the hike :)
Was there last week and the mountain railway is only going three quarters up and BE WARNED!! IF GETTING A RETURN, YOU HAVE TO COME BACK ON THE TRAIN YOU GO UP ON, only 30 mins at the station!
I am travelling to London from India. I will be living in Northolt. How do I reach the base of Snowdon? How long will it take me to reach the base? What is the ideal time to start the trek? Thank You in advance 😊
This is such a fantastic video, thank you very much! Got it suggested by chance. Planning to heading up this track on the 26th of August, this Thurdsday at 2 am to catch the sunrise. All the best, Andreas
Little update, we did It yesterday morning, 2.35am. We managed to get up to the top at precisely 4.35am. I had no idea we will be so fast, this was just our second mountain hike, but I guess our training prepared us well...😅✌ + the OS app was pure gold, and I only found It through you! Major game changer during a night hike, especially with the few unclear paths. We meet an English man while going down who waited the whole summer for the weather report to be as good as yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic! Thanks a lot again for your video, it was by far the best one to prepare us safely for the hike! We would have NEVER done it in 2h without you! 🤜🤛 Cheers!
Man that's awesome, I'm so glad your trip went so well and as far as the app goes, it's such a great tool to reference, and at night yes it's pure gold even if just to reference your on the right track, we'll done!
You are a top man. I really enjoyed the video and very neatly explained. Can you do something similar for the Pyg/Miner track. I am going via this track as I have my partner and a 5 yr old who would climb the summit with me. Do you advice Llanberis track against the Miner track as I have company?
Thanks for the great comment, I mean the pyg track will be fine with a family, depends on they're capability and fitness level obviously. But both paths are a great hike. I'll do one for the pyg track soon as I know that's one of the most popular paths hiked on snowdon.
The car park is directly opposite the train station. I mean there's lots of lovely places to sit and eat around llanberis, but I don't recommend taking a bbq.
I've just recently got into hiking and based on your experience and explanation. It sounds like a fantastic beginning to my journey through the various mountains I wanna visit
I did the ranger path 10 years ago and I'm coming back soon to have another go, but this time to do the Llanberis path. It's an organised group tour to watch the sunset at the top (weather permitting) and walk down wearing head lights - which will be a new experience for me. Just hoping we'll get down past the rockier bits of the path before it's too dark.😁
Dave, eight months after my quadruple bypass, I watched your video so I figured I’d come over across the pond and give it a try. Made it to the top on Saturday, and even though it was hot, I live in Florida and the heat was not a problem. The ticker held up and I came back home yesterday and am heading to the Shenandoah national Park and the Blue Ridge Mountains at the end of the month. Couldn’t of done this without your video, so thank you!
Awesome have a great time, as far as tips go, don't wear all your warm gear from the start, you'll get hot as you hike and only end up taking it off, but mostly just enjoy yourself
Fab! Really helpful. Can't wait to try this with the kids. Never down anything like it before but looks spectacular! Thanks for sharing. Have subscribed xx
I found the Miners path to be excellent for the first 3/4, last section was hard as I'm 54, overweight and unfit. Took my time and had plenty of breaks but got up there with no issues. The decent down to Llanberis was a different story, I felt it was s lot longer, fatigue set in half way down and I pulled my knee, I was in considerable pain by the time we'd got to the car. Wish now I'd parked by the hostel and done Miners up and Pyg down, steeper but a lot shorter for this fat old boy.
Did it last week and it was warm sunny and dry took us seven hours which included lunch at the top and a few breaks. I think if you are in reasonable shape you won't have any issues so long as you keep well away from Crib Goch!
Hi I'm watching your videos until finish I'm glad upon your speech faster honestly I m really understand English but base in your action I know what you mean hahaha but any I have a little kingdom please I make this bigger thank you very much for your support God bless
Thanks, it took 4 hours because mainly I was filming with the camera and taking my time, but you can do it much quicker than this, I suggest taking the full day though to appreciate the entirety of the route and the views. 👍
Thanks for the great video. We are catching the train 3/4 of the way up but want to walk down. Which path will take us back to the train station car park please?
The llanberis path will take you back to the train station from the summit, just make sure you take the right path. Otherwise you'll end up on the opposite side of the mountain range, so I would familiarise yourself with the route back beforehand 👍
You're right about the railway. Going in couple of weeks and the other half can't really trek that far so we looked at the railway. Unfortunately the top part is closed this year and it's also £35 return or £25 one way. Way to expensive to do I'm afraid.
Great video. Found it really useful and helpful in planning my hike. Just got back from going up Snowdon with my dog Milo, we both loved it and followed the route in the video. Great route and the views are breathtaking the higher up to the summit you go
Aw glad you enjoyed the trip, awesome! Your right as you get to the junction in the paths below the summit the views really open up on both sides, thanks for the comment 👍
I though it might give people more of an idea of ground relief as one person's version of steep, is different to another's. This way they can at least begin to visualise it if they've never been before 👍
The route is actually 5 miles, accurately measured for the annual International Snowdon Race. The llanberis Path is the longest route up the mountain, and takes on average around three hours from llanberis.
I mean if you want to turn it into a longer hike, then yes this can be done, I would familiarise yourself with the route first though as it will be slightly steeper and looser underfoot than the route up. I haven't done it myself, but from the map it looks like a nice circular walk.
Hi mate, great video. I’ve done quite a few hikes, Ben Nevis, Scafell, Skiddaw and now going to Snowdon on Sunday. Which route would you recommend for someone that is not a beginner and has a few hikes under their belt? I think Crib Goch is a no at this stage.
Both the Pyg Track and Watkin Path are great, but are very tourist dominant. If your looking for a good route without crowds then I'd say the Ranger Path it comes up snowdon from the west and is still a very scenic hike. I'll link a video so you can see it!
@@qualitymountainday Well it did not disappoint. It was a quiet route until you get to the train tracks and then traffic at the summit, where it was absolutely freezing, but had some amazing views. Are you on Instagram by the way?
I mean thats entirely up to you and how much you think you'll need, not a great deal though, some snacks a suitable lunch will be fine, whatever your preferred diet is.
@@qualitymountainday thanks for the advice 👍🏼 for lunch you recommend a meal such as the Firepot brand which I saw on your other videos and I’ll try it out. Awesome job, keep it up
Bold Adventures Thanks. I meant the way you explained was excellent. Very useful videos to all hikers. I have been there 17 times in 10 years. Keep up the good work ! Look forward to more videos esp from North Wales. Cheers again !
Hi happy new year. Myself and a few friends are hoping to give this a go in May. (We are all 1st time hikers) how long roughly will this take in total?
Rocky Harp Hi it will take ~ 5-6 hours, to summit and back to llanberis. Of course depends on fitness level. I am sure you will enjoy the hiking. There is plenty of free parking, just look around, need to come early in the day. But if you wish to park in a paid car park, there is plenty again costs £5 to £10 pounds. Path has been improved significantly in the last few weeks. Rest of info in the excellent video by Bold Adventures.
@@joshhawley6675 only advice is to enjoy the route mate, take a hot drink and food as I'm not sure the cafe etc is open with this whole covid scenario in place!
I mean it's different for everyone, my fave is crib Goch, but the watkin path sure is great if your looking for waterfalls and maybe a dip in one. Have a great time 👍
Such a fantastic video! I'm organising my friends and I first trip to Snowdon, we're all mixed experience and I thought this route would be too easy but you've sold it to me, thanks mate. You should do in depth videos like this on all routes! ps do you know of any good camping spots in or around Llanberis?
It's regarded as the easiest path, but it'll be a great first challenge for a mixed ability group mate, thanks for the positivity, I have got some other videos of hikes around Snowdonia which I've done, so feel free to check them out if you'll find them useful, and enjoy ya trip as well 👌
In terms of camping, I tend not to camp in Llanberis, but I'm sure you'll find a fair few on Google mate 👍 all will be relatively decent but if your going with a large group, be sure to ring and make them aware so you can book a spot. If your not fussed about staying in Llanberis itself then Llyn Gwynant Campsite is my fave in Snowdonia 👍
This is a brilliant video super helpful. We’re wanting to do snowdon but I’m petrified of heights cause of the steep drops , would you say this path has a lot of steep drops or is it okay?
No Amy if there's any path to start with then this one is it, there isn't any real exposure at all except for far reaching views on a clear day. It's a great route to start with, go enjoy it. Thanks for the video feedback also!
Hi. This is exactly the video I was looking for. Thank you. My question, llanberis seems to be the obvious route for a beginner to go up, which I am. Do you know if Watkin would be too challenging a path downwards as I very much want to see the waterfalls?
Hey thanks, no the watkin path would be fine it gets a bit steeper towards the top but not unmanageable, it's totally doable by beginners, the waterfalls are much lower down anyway at the beginning of the route.
@@qualitymountainday Thanks so much for your reply. Will certainly think about it. I might just come down Llanberis and walk up Watkin to the waterfalls another day. Safe travels.
