here in Canada we been doing this for decades, tho the ones I've seen run much shorter and totally slick tracks. basically a giant patch of rubber, ~4-5 square foot of rubber surface contacting the pavement and they always beat everything!! :D

I saw a guy racing his snowmobile 40 years ago. It had a flat track, front wheels and it was on the bottle. He beat almost everyone at the meet. The track was actually 'grabbing' the track surface like a slick, it was mind blowing

I’m glad you guys pointed out which one was the snowmobile, I was confused.

Guys- the sled is a standard Lynx Boondocker which was a tourist rental machine in Sälen, Sweden. Completely unmodified other than the skis which had wheels. About 120 hp when top of the line two strokes have around 165 and turbo 4 strokes over 200 to over 440hp in tuned condition.

When you think about it a Snowmobile is quite a versatile vehicle they work on Snow (obviously) you can also ride them on Water, Tarmac, Sand, gravel pretty much every surface you can think of.. (Although I can't imagine it does them much good}

Pull start vehicle, t-shirt on, no roll cage...or any safety equipment whatsoever. Smokes a Ferrari! That's a pretty dangerous combination but it's impressive as hell and it brakes in a crazy short distance too. Why aren't we all driving them around? More stable and practical than a motorcycle and if it's icy out then that's no biggy either lol. Amazing video, thanks :)

I live in Canada where we can really ride these things, they're insane vehicles. I'm more into taking them up in the mountains and doing crazy hill climbs and navigating through trees and stuff like that, but I used to be more into straight line racing in fields and frozen lakes. They're way quicker than people think. That sled sounds like a bone stock 800R. That's only around 150-165 horsepower. There are turbo sleds now that have well over 250. He would also do a lot better if he was running a proper drag setup. Some guys will throw slick tracks and wheel kits on them. But that sled is basically set up for the mountains. Looks like a bone stock Summit 153"

The test is the coefficient of traction between the rubber on the snowmobile and the car. The winner will be a function of F=Ma. Certainly the weight as well as the surface area is involved. I have discovered an additional benefit which I call torque traction which is peculiar to tracks vs wheels. Iguana

in minnesota we have drag strip where snowmobiles have small tires under front skis and also do burnoutouts lol

One major edge a snowmobile has is it's CVT. Instead of shifting to different gears in a car, the snowmobile can keep the engine at a certain RPM. If the sled is properly tuned, the CVT will try to keep the sled in its power band. With a car, you get 5 gears. With a snowmobile, you get an infinite number of gears.

The 458 makes such a great sound

All you need now is a track that isn't built for snow. Get a racing slick track, lower the snowmobile's center of gravity, and integrate wheel's into the skies. That thing would walk any Ferrari.

The Dude drove it to Sweden after buying the Scooter in Finland :) He then drove the snowmobile 3600 kilometers down to Italy in 26 hours just becouse he was able to, no speed limits in the woods ;) We all need these cool trips now and then so we can survive the everyday traveling to work :D If this is true... why not ask Mythbusters :)

Why do people insist on drag racing Ferrari’s, Lambo’s, etc., they aren’t made for drag racing.

That's not even a asphalt sled. It still has the 141 with 2 inch paddles and snow skis. Put a 121" asphalt track with wheels up front it wont even be a race. My sled does 0-60 in 2.5 seconds on snow, pavement sleds will do 0-60 in the 1's.

What's the set up on the skis? I didn't see any wheels there. I might be wrong. The track didn't look like a drag track either.

I never see Ferraris around anymore. I used to see the 355 spyder and 360 modena driving around a lot. I've seen two separate McLaren F1 and a black CLK GTR. I guess nobody would drive on the roads in Massachusetts, especially Boston and greater Boston area. Are those snowmobiles exactly how you would buy it from a dealer or are they tuned?

Hearing the plastic skis on that snowmobile scratching the pavement makes me throw up a little.

My '65 AC Cobra replica with a bored and stroked twin turbo small block 427 hits 60 mph in 2.4 seconds on warmed up drag radials. And that's with just 10 lbs of boost. A 150 shot of NOS is in the works. I just had to brag a little lol.
