Zen Joe Thanks! This is almost full circle... A Swedish pilot in France inspiring a pilot in Idaho to buy a plane - from Idaho! The skis are the original Avid Flyer skis, hopefully not to hard to find. But I don't think there was ever a tail ski proposed. I will make one myself...

This is what I'm afraid of. Kitfoxes were plentiful before Trent Palmer and now they are through the roof. If Fred flew a plane that was still being made I bet he would be responsible for the bulk of their sales once he went viral.

Thank you Jonny! A mix of cameras, but yes the technological progress in this area allows filming stuff we would not even think about a few years ago... I'm running a 2 stroke Simonini Victor 2 with 92 hp. Keeps the plane light (compared to 4 stroke) and give me all the power I need in the mountains also in the summer.

Hi Craig! Thanks for your kind comment! The 360 camera is always mounted in the same position (I'm panning and zooming in the image during post production). The 360 camera is attached to a 1 meter (just over 3 feet) "selfie stick" sticking out in front of the leading edge from where the right wing strut meet the wing.

Ahh...yes I got a peak of that when you skied. Are you erasing the stick in post? I’m surprised vibration wasn’t an issue also...seems very smooth!

Craig, yes and if you go to 2:25 you can clearly see the stick and camera on the shadow. The stick is automatically suppressed by the camera and the stabilization is among the best I have ever seen. Working with 360 is very different from traditional footage and requires a lot of post production. But it is fun and, I think, rewarding...

The camera is an Insta360 One X. There is an primary editor provided by Insta360 needed for stitching the footage. It is also used for "re-framing" i.e. extracting 1080 flat/"2D" footage that can be edited and post produced in any NLE. Note that the initial, spherical, footage is 5.7k and heavy to work with. The provided editor allows making short films with spectacular effect (tiny planet, rabbit holes etc.) as well as VR "point in any direction" footage. Good luck but be prepared for a cumbersome workflows..

Hello Happy Flyer! For this film I have used a couple of, 3 actually, (normal) GoPro cameras and an Insta360 One X. But it is not a question of brand and type, it is more about camera rigs and hard work in post production... Working with over capture 360 footage is very different from working with normal "flat" footage. This film was an experiment for me to learn from.

Tanguy Detroz It might look that way but there was also a lot of footage that could not be used as I had hoped. One thing is the dramatic deformation of any elongated objects too close to the extreme wide angle lens. Like an airplane wing... This limits what you can do when the plane is in view. Panning up or down is impossible with the plane in view, even side ways need to be done carefully... And a million other things... But I take your comment as a compliment, so thank you...

Hi Jordan! I'm trying to understand your comment... Are you suggesting I should have skipped the flying part of the film (i.e. my actual intended focus of the film...) and focused on skiing and should have filmed that with a large crew? Or if I didn't have a large crew I should have used 6 GoPro cameras - by myself? I agree the skiing part isn't very developed, but that was never my intention - what I do on skis is not particularly interesting... Maybe you were expecting ski film and I'm sorry if the title mislead you.

@@fredstork I felt you were going to land on a glacier and ski something amazing. Instead you did some mountain flying then landed at a ski resort to make some turns on fairly tame terrain, living in a mountain town with world class skiers and film companies my expectations maybe were too high.

@@jordanepstein1499There was never any intention to show spectacular skiing, nor to present the full potential of Tignes. Nor do I try to compete with established film companies, I'm doing a one man show. Only me and a few cameras. I'm sorry if you were misled by the title.

What a silly criticism. I am a very experienced pilot. This little film captures the joy of flight like no other I have ever seen. I just wonder what you have ever done with your life that makes you feel so superior to this pilot and artist...

Thanks Spike! They are the skis that came with Avid Flyer kit (as an option…). They work well and reduces the risk of mechanical/electric/hydraulic failure. I have a tail ski now….

Hi! No, only when actually skiing (from 5:32) do I have a GoPro on the tip of the ski. I'm using an Insta360 on a stick for both the ski lift scenes and when you see the plane from the front (and some other scenes...)

Yes Marlon, you are right on.. The camera, a 369 degree camera, is mounted on a stick about 3-4 feet ahead of the leading edge of the right wing. Thank you for your comment!
