I grew up in West Hampstead & spent my childhood roaming the heath - thanks. In those days (the 1950's) kids were free to roam the neighborhood & altho there were strange men in bushes sometimes, we kids would just laugh at them & run away ! I'm sure I never reported any of that to my father or he likely would have stopped my adventures, but I remember that heath very clearly as a pretty wild place & all those ponds were fun to dibble in ! As a ragamuffin London kid I would arrive home for 'tea' around 5.0 pm after a day of running wild. often on my own, just exploring & climbing trees etc ! What a great childhood I had ! My own 4 kids later had a much more rstricted childhood !
I also grew up in the 1950s and 1960s,and lived near the Heath, played near the Ponds and climbed trees. I now live in Australia, but recently visited Hampstead and reminisced about my childhood in that wonderful place.
I lived in Bramhall, Cheshire during the 1960's. My friends and I would head off in a 'gang' and be gone from 8:30am until it was getting dark. we were only 7 or 8 years old. We would roam the fields and Carr Woods for hours. I remember my mum saying ' another kiddie has gone missing' (Hindley and Bradey's work ) but it never occurred to my parents to restrict our adventures. How it's all changed.
I grew up in Hampstead (Rosslyn Hill - almost opposite the Police Station now closed 3:22 ). Beautiful spot but no longer the community of artists, actors, musicians & jovial middle class alcoholics! It’s now totally dominated by US, Israeli & French bankers in Porsche SUVs. The pubs, wine bars & local stores have largely disappeared. It’s now impersonal, with chain shops, chain patisseries & high-end estate agents. The very things that made it wonderful, and attracted these absurdly wealthy people, has been destroyed by those people. Sad. Home is not just a place but a time…
I also grew up in Hampstead in the 1960s, and lived in South Hill Park, next to the Heath. I know Rosslyn Hill well, and the Police Station at the top of Downshire Hill. I now live in Australia, but visited last October, to reminisce about my time in that wonderful place.
@@WatchedWalker Thanks for the reply. I meant maybe post the timestamps in the video following your current one. Sorry I wasn't clearer. Definitely don't want any spoilers. Thanks again!
What a joy you are to ex-Londoners and people remembering their London family. You walked down Heath Hurst Road! My great grandparents lived there in the 1930s.
Please keep the videos coming they are so enjoyable where ever the venue .I’m originally from North Yorkshire so I have seen lots of snow…..but it’s so good to see areas like this where snow is quite a “ novelty” and everyone takes time to walk and enjoy the crunchy icy pathways etc…..the ducks and swans seem a bit bewildered bless them Nevertheless Summertime will bring a different scene of people picnicking and sunning themselves in the same place where the snow had fallen ….Ah well! ! !
london is still nice and english in the handful of areas where white british ppl dominate but you gotta be a multi millionaire to tlives in these areas
Very nice walk in Hampstead; in the city and then on the heights where there is a gigantic and magnificent park with splendid views. Beautiful lakes too. Thank you WW for this winter walk 😀😀😀😀😀
Wow Watched Walker (WWW). Hampstead Heath in winter for 65 minutes. Mum and I will be sure to watch this. I've taken a brief sneak peak already (yes, I used that slider button) and it looks fab! The hill of the Heath reminds me a bit of Primrose Hill actually. Anyhow, hope you are having a great day. Merry Christmas!
I always say hello to every dog I meet, particularly ones like the sausagey dog type plodding along at26:25, looking rather like he wishes he was home 😊
