Anything more than 5-7 inches gets to be actual work (not talking about slushy snow) when u lose the ability to just push the snow with a shovel and u actually have to pick it up and throw it aside that’s when u know u gonna be doing that shit for way longer than any normal person wants to. It helps to be fit I couldn’t imagine being out of shape and having to do that shit. My worst clean up happened last winter where i had a layer of about 3-4 inches of snow followed by a layer of sleet 2 inches deep that fell when the temps were in the upper teens so u can imagine they turned into a rock hard sheet of ice then finally with another 6-7 inches of snow on top if the sleet took me day to painfully clean that shit and broke two shovels in the process

It's pretty variable in Upstate New York, as the lake effect snow can be hit and miss. Buffalo itself averages about 8 feet of snow. That average is actually higher south and east, such as in Jamestown, NY. Tug Hill and the Adirondacks also do very well for average annual snowfall (unsurprisingly). Western Maryland, thanks to elevation, actually averages as much if not more snow than Buffalo. In Maryland, there is a pretty sharp cutoff in snow average east of Dans Mountain, which represents the escarpment known as the Allegheny Front. Maryland can achieve comparable snows at 2500 feet elevation, and as you go south you have to go higher in elevation to achieve comparable annual snowfalls.
