Safe sailing.
Boat:
White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built.
The camera gear:
Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached.
Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera.
Editing:
Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff!
There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access.
Content:
I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.
Comments and being at sea:
I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.

Barry new to your channel but as a mechanic I would highly recommend you carry some Wurth Pipe Sealant for any threaded connections (Better than Loctite PTFE), Some Loctite 515 Gasket maker (You would be amazed at how that stuff can get you out of trouble and seal most things) and some RTV Silicone. After going back and watching all your troubles with Mr Perkins adding these to your stores would greatly help. Thanks for your videos love the channel!

A fridge left unguarded in Australia would cause a riot 🙂It's said that once there was at one time more pubs in Bundaberg, per capita than any other town in Australia. One church on every intersection and three pubs. Hope you're heading south Barry.

That is exactly how I rig my snubber line. Same hook as well. I run mine through the bow spit for the anchor chain, so the boat doesn’t yaw. Tried it through both sides but it encourages more swinging about.

Hi there Salty Sea Dog, from where you currently call home. Thank god, you are on the water again so to speak, in your last video I watched you were contemplating stopping your cercunaveargating our gorgeous home ( Sea ) all-together. Because of a little storm ? Sourly nothing that you or Shady could not handle. Yes truely a storm that would have put the shits up any normal seaman or sailor. However there is the sea dog and Shady. Kind respectful regards Terry.

I enjoyed that immensely. I've never been to Australia. I know what it's like to have a keel dragging in the mud, though my little boat has a shallower draught (long keel). As we say in France - "Bon vent" and a safe passage to wherever you're going.

I think your bowlines are Cowboy Bowlines - the tail is on the outside of the loop. I've read a few sources that say they could slip, other sources saying they're effectively the same either way. I never worry when I see one being used. And then there's the Inuit Bowline. It doesn't undo very easily and it is indeed Inuit, noticed on a gifted dogsled and then shared. Your figure Figure 8 will indeed undo, (It's the halyard knot that usually has to be cut off.) Every climber ties and unties figure 8s all the time. One climbing RU-vidr, Hard Is Easy pointed out that if the long line is below the short line next to the loop, it's still completely effective but is much much easier to untie. I don't actually know how to tie knots, but my hands have learned to do them automatically. Takes some practice. I don't think I could do that the rabbit goes around the tree and back into the hole thing --- on board when someone is going through that a second time... I just reach over and crank my automatic bowline. (Twist loop, pull another loop through that one, feed through the working end, over turn it. Done. ) You don't learn working with knots, you have to practice them individually, deliberately. I figured that out after I'd just sailed 7500 nmiles and my rolling hitch for fenders was still inconsistent.
