Snufkin : has really good words of wisdom to tell the other characters that would genuinely help them with their conflicts throughout the show. Also snufkin : let’s make it a trash can lol

I've got the impression moominmama and snufkin have some sort of... an agreement going on, know what i mean? Wink wink nudge nudge ... In all seriousness i think she sees him as a son, like she does with almost anybody
I adore snufkin’s personality! I just wish the animation was able to exaggerate emotions in order to help convey what each character is thinking, however, it would make sense that Snufkin doesn’t have the same range of expressions due to his down to earth and tendency to brush of possible trouble until last minute.
Even though most Moomin fans interpret the main cast as older teens (15-19), this particular dub makes it harder to glean. Not just do some voices sound much younger than in the source (especially Moomintroll), the dialogue is also simplified in the translation. It makes it sound like Moomin is prepubescent while Snufkin could be anywhere from 15 to his early 20’s. Their relationship is treated like a mentorship when it’s actually just two friends talking about life.
Elli W. I was looking a the newest adaptation and I was noticing that snuck in was just a little off and it might just be me, but when I heard little my in the new one it all just felt wrong
Polaris S yes that’s it! And in they missed crucial points in the development of the characters and missed many references to Swedish and Nordic myths (the frozen horse was not set correctly) idk I could write a full essay but I don’t have the time but ya
Polaris S and they made many life lessons apparent and was great for me to grow up with! I have many Icelandic friends and they were quite like snufkin ( 1990’s version obviously lol) and when I watch it I look back at my childhood and think of my friends that I still have today! I miss that!
Polaris S I’m Greek and usually Greek people are filled with life and loudness! My Icelandic and Norwegian friends balance me out! I have been lucky enough to visit them in their home countries and I think you would love them! I would say everyone should put them on their bucket list!
Chad Finnish Snufkin: You're vile. Virgin English Snufkin: That was mean, Stinky. >:( (I'm just kidding about the chad and virgin bit, please don't hurt me)
I really wished they would have had the tonal levels in the English dub as in the Finnish. It's a bit... weird how Moomin and Sniff sound like a girls, and Snufkin sounds more like a teenager than wise wanderer. But the important thing is more people get to enjoy the wholesome awesome that is Moomins. :3 Reminds me how in Finland, the dub for Skeletor of Heman cartoons was made sound like heavy-metal Satan, he actually came across intimidating. Then I saw my first English dub and my honest reaction was "ok, ok this is some parody dub, he doesn't sound like that for real, right... right?!".
I feel this difference between Polish and English dub. In Polish Snufkin's voice is mysterious, classy and very polite. And he didn't comment Stinky's cruel attitude just straighforwardly asked him a question and after getting the vile answer only said "You know Stinky... we don't want you here".
there's no canon age really! you can just kinda glean from the context that they're at least under late teens. dunno what's going on with 1972 snufkin tho. just an 8 foot tall 8 octaves lower 8 year old.
No canon ages given, although most interpretations are that Snufkin is older than Moomintroll by a year or two and that Sniff is younger by the same amount. And Snorkmaiden is the same age as Moomintroll and no one cares about Snork and Little My is older than all of them.
Reading the books and watching this anime as a kid: I always assumed Moomin was a child, like between 9 and 12 somewhere, and Snufkin was 18+. He just always seemed like a cool babysitter type. He can take care of himself but genuinely enjoys joining kids on their fun adventures - while keeping an eye on them. Responsible enough to not get people killed - irresponsible enough to ALMOST manage it in the name of good fun. A smart trickster who is always plotting chaos and always makes sure to keep some tricks up his sleeve incase they get into trouble. Seeing people ship him with moomin all the time now was really shocking - I guess its never stated anywhere exactly how old any of them are, but it still instinctively makes my skin crawl. ((Just coz it makes me feel physically ill dosnt mean its bad though, thatd be stupid. People can read and respond to fiction in different ways.))
Same here. I always imagined Snufkin as like 13 and Moomin 9 or 10 but I still never liked the ship. I just can't really see Snufkin being in a romantic relationship with anyone, and besides Moomin loves Snorkmaiden already!
snufkin is basically my two braincells when I'm trying to text my friends in the middle of the night, I can say something straight up from a weed trip but also I can just randomly send cursed images with the word "feet" on them
I’ve never watched this show, and am too young to have been around for this ‘type’ of television, but something about this show gives me a strange, distant feeling. I’m not entirely sure how to explain it, but it’s almost as if some part of me splits and begins existing somewhere else when I watch these clips. I maintain some sensation of the split piece, but for the most part it’s the distance that I feel. It’s dreamlike. I wish it were a pleasant feeling, but it’s actually rather lonely. As if a deep emptiness creeps inside me. As if i’ve missed something important. It makes life feel slightly off. Anyone else get that?
Moominvalley is a hauntingly plausible facsimile of a life humans once had, before the stresses of modern life, and without the stresses of illness and famine and war. It's a peaceful land where people are not afraid to look a little silly while having fun, where nobody bats an eye at a child wandering miles from home. Something deep in you remembers an environment like this, a village like this, a lifestyle of unfettered lazing punctuated by bursts of activity. It's the natural human in you mourning the loss of its ancestral environment.
I don’t quite get a feeling like that, but I do feel a strange sense of nostalgia watching these clips, despite my mum having no memory of me ever watching anything quite like this. It’s odd and makes me think back to when my biggest worry was what to do when it got too cold to play outside
‘But I am a witch with three diplomas’ the writing on this show was crack but coming from the same show that had the words ‘white slavery’ or some shit in it I don’t think we can be surprised anymore lmao
I got the impression he's a young adult who's not that much older than Moomin, but he's still a child at heart. He's like the Moomin family's teenage babysitter
