Next year’s LEGO The Lord of the Rings set is now rumoured to be based on the home of the Hobbits, potentially opening the door to a more affordable Middle-earth model.
Since returning to shelves in 2023, LEGO Middle-earth has been represented by two giants of the LEGO Icons line in 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell and 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr. Anyone wanting a slice of Tolkien’s world in bricks has therefore needed to pony up at least £400 - but change could be afoot in 2025, as the next LEGO The Lord of the Rings set is now said to be inspired by the Shire.
That’s according to Instagram user and generally reliable source of rumours tandnbricks, who’s given a less-than-cryptic clue to 2025’s Lord of the Rings set in a recent story. When asked about future Middle-earth sets, they responded: “A wizard is never late, he arrives precisely when he means to,” referencing Gandalf’s greeting to Frodo in the Shire at the beginning of Fellowship of the Ring. “It will be a shire fire hit.”
A GIF of Gandalf holding up a STOP sign (‘You shall not pass…’) covers up ‘shire’ in that last bit of text, so it looks like sure-fire, but the meaning is clear. And if this rumour does actually come to pass - remember that a third Middle-earth model is not confirmed at all yet - it could mean that next year’s LEGO The Lord of the Rings set is more affordable and accessible than either of its predecessors.

While I have the original Bag End from The Hobbit wave and I believe that it’s still a great set, I have always wanted a full scale Bag End. The Shire is arguably one of the most iconic locations in all of Middle-earth. It’s where the films begin and end. Heck, it’s literally described in the first line of The Hobbit [book]! I'm not sure why everyone thinks there “can't” be a pub when there was a pub & inn for the D&D set… but the pub isn’t a very big deal in LOTR as things go. Bag End is. Gandalf's cart, some fireworks, Bilbo's house, maybe all the dwarves from The Hobbit…the house would be quite sizable to stick them all in…and lots of plates (maybe even some flying through the air), wheels of cheese, and before you know it, we'll all hear Thorin singing. Maybe toss in 2 heads & hair for Bilbo (young & old), and add Sam & Frodo, a book, an envelope and a ring, and you can cover the start of both series.

In my mind its gonna be another 450 dollar set, maybe 400 or 300 Because a lot of these would be figures that already exist and would cost less to produce. instead of something that is tall or long I think the shire will mostly be sort of like an uphill cake and sort of.. oval shaped maybe ? bag end and another hobbit hole (probably sam's) so you can recreate the final "I'm home" scene. A mill perhaps and a road that goes swirling left and right upwards thru the whole thing so you can ride gandalf cart thru the shire. (I'd love a green dragon but the mere fact it's a pub means it won't happen.) There will be some hollow space underneath the interior of the whole thing to store the parts for bilbo's birthday party such as the banners and the big cake and/or flamepieces because otherwise this space would be useless. (but I doubt lego would actually include the flamepieces.) As for the figures it would probably include: Frodo in his shire atire, Gandalf, Sam, a slightly younger Bilbo unless lego cheaps out and reuses the rivendell one, Merry, Pippin, Rosie Cotton, a Nazgûl on horse and 2 or 3 generic hobbits. Other things that might be fun could be a brick build fireworks dragon along with regular firework very simillar to how the disney castle did it, and alternate faces for merry and pippin when they get ash on their faces and get caught. some The Hobbit easter eggs would be fun, giving us all 13 dwarves may be unrealistic but a picture like the ones in rivendell with all the dwarves and bilbo on it would be cool. The mythril shirt obviously, the acorn he took from Beorn's garden, Maybe his drawing of himself, and of course the map of the lonely mountain is a must. Other details like the pictures of frodo's parents, the mark that gandalf leaves on the door, the red book of westmarch (preferably in dark red this time 😂) the food storage, bilbo's desk, his small chest of gold (throw an orc helmet in there for good measure), the sign on the fence, a drawer with spoons in it, sam's garden etc. And a light brick inside the fireplace to light the whole thing up. As for a gift with purchase I first thought gandalf's cart, but then you would have 2 gandalf's and it's pretty important to include in the set itself. But then I got it.. The treetrunk where they hide from the Nazgûl. It's fairly iconic but recognizable. It would only include the nazgûl on horse but it would be cool nontheless and the figure already exists. Yeah that's pretty much all i could come up with. obviously what we all want is just cheaper sets though 😂

@@sebastianstroud-klein5332 That's true, maybe I didn't express it correctly. Because Barad Dur is similar to Orthanc, Shire as a larger area could be similar in size to Rivendell. But having just Bag End would be off scale. That is more of what I wanted to say mentioning the scale.

Greetings from the Derby City, here in Louisvile, Kentucky we have bourbon, baseball bats, and yes bricks. Found your channel, good episode, I like your predictions. As a fan of both LOTR and LEGO, I'll be curious about more sets. Wasn't there a time, and please correct me if I'm mistaken, where LEGO would feature multiple sets in a series on the last page of the instruction manual? If they are considering more LOTR sets, maybe one idea could be a single (32x32?) base of let's say Bag End, then several smaller (16x16?) of scenes such as the Green Dragon, the Mill, the Party Tree, Sam's hobbit hole, and even an expansion pack (like they do with SW) that offers additional minifig hobbits. Minifigs could be spread out to feature in each set such as: - Frodo/Bilbo in Bag End - Merry/Pippen in the Green Dragon - Gandalf and his fireworks, along with Peter Jackson's two small minifig hobbits at the Party Tree - Sam, Rosie and family in his hobbit hole - the Proudfoot clan at the Mill - for fans of the books, sneak in Saruman of Many Colors as a fun easter egg - and creators can do what they do best, be creative, heck I've got minifigs ranging from Abraham Lincoln, the Breaking Bad guys, and the Mythbusters duo all the way to Stan Lee, the Blues Brothers, Amelia Earhart, several renditions of The Doctor (with their corresponding companions), and Bad Santa in my shire MOC. I guess my thought is, by organizing one big theme in to several smaller sets, it give fans of all rangess and budgets options. Thank you for sharing your episode, your chanel, and your perspectives. I look forward to seeing more, keep up the good work and have a GREAT week!

Smaller sets that people want lead to hellish pricing. While in the uk for you it’s only become sensitive in 2024 second half, in other countries there has been suffering for a while. The Jurassic park visitors center, the skiff / sail barge completion set.. bag end is probably going to be small set so painfully priced you won’t believe it. When they announced the visitors center pricing my reaction was “why stop there why didn’t they just keep going”. Anyway, welcome to second class Lego purchaser status. I think the palantir showing a flaming shire has more to do with the lore than a reference to the future sets. I am not a LOTR lore expert but I believe in the books Denethor has one of the other palantir, so it would make sense that Minas Tirith would be a place Saruman's palantir could see. At the end of the Return of the King book, Saruman and his remaining allies go to the Shire and cause trouble so maybe the flaming Shire is a reference to that.
