so, Calamity got a Biome Rework update… 

these biomes look majestic and calming, till then you meet abominable witchcraft horror beyond your imagination

Just so that everyone know (also extra hype), these are NOT the biome reworks that are planned for the mod, this update mostly focused on the visual part of it. The ACTUAL reworks will be much, much, much larger, this was only to prepare the biomes for it. The Sunken Sea is the first one planned to be worked, likely followed by the Brimstone Crag. The Abyss is also planned to get a rework, but that’s likely going to happen much later down the line.

The Corinth Prime is my donor weapon. It was, and still is, my go-to primary weapon in Warframe. And they did it justice here in Calamity.

Imagine calamity getting update that changes world generation significantly after you spent 20+ hours in the previous update world, couldn't be me

keep in mind this is not the reworks that are coming later. The Brimstone Crag, and Sunken Sea will get complete overhauls to the point where they are basically new biomes, abyss gen, and astral biome gen getting an overhaul, and then new biomes. Brimstone Crags especially becoming a horizontial abyss with new game mechanics, and new enemies.

These reworks are absolute fire

Personally, the best part of Calamity is that even when it adds and changes this much, it still fits seamlessly into Terraria.

When I first explored the Abyss biome, I was curious because I died in an instant when I dug from the underworld to this big black mass (sus I know), so I brought 2 teleporters and tried to explore The Abyss. My mission? Find what's in the bottom of the abyss. I felt like the protagonist from Made in Abyss at first, exploring a really unique environment where though claustrophobic and dangerous, new creatures and treasures pull me deeper down, but as I went further, visibility decreases, encounters with more dangerous creatures increase and the music which first filled me with intrigue, now merges with what The Abyss' nature truly is. Darkness. Just darkness. I went down while interchanging the two teleporters in my inventory that connect to the surface while connecting wires so I dont lose progress, but then I saw something I've dreaded since I was young: a shear drop down to darkness. I don't know how deep it is, nor do I know what the fuck lurkes down there. It looked like a damn boss room with that much space. I struggled just fighting normal enemies here, so I'm sure as hell not gonna survive a boss fight. I took a deep breath. I jumped. Within the short span of seconds, I saw the silhouette of an unknown creature passing me. I can't make sense of it's entire form, but I knew it was huge. I wondered why it didn't attack me, maybe it didn't register me as prey, of it didn't recognize my existence, or maybe. Maybe it was curious. The unknown creature passed me multiple times as I held my breath until I reached the bottom of The Abyss. With my caveman instincts my first reflex is to dig further down. Not because of curiosity, but because of fear of whatever that creature was would come and smite my poor existence. Which was proven correct. As I dug, THE CREATURE STOPPED AT MY HOLE'S ENTERANCE, BLOCKING IT. It was an Eidolon Wyrm Infant. I wanted to dig further down to run away but the game told me otherwise as creatures of The Abyss are visible further down, and they look like minibosses. Understanding the despair in this situation, I took my magic mirror, and teleported back to base. What I want to tell in this comment is that I've never felt this emotion of dread in video games. I feel like a character from a cosmic horror story. Anyways thanks for reading this far if anyone reads this comment

I love how they did a surprise update lol! I've started a playthrough and havent seen much of the new reworks but I know they are CRAZY, Big W from the calamity devs, theres like 700 changes in the changelog altogether its wild. Good video!

Also what I have noticed is that normality relocator got heavily decreased cooldown and now it's finally useful in bossfights.

im soooo happy they reworked the brimstone crag biome, it always seemed sooo cool to me to have a "biome in hell" however the old version was kind of jsut a red and black version of the normal underworld

Finally, they added the biome side changer! In my first calamity playthrough which I still have not completed after some update the sides of the world switched and I had to make another world and refight all bosses to be able to fight the abyssal enemies and anahita. It was also annoying, because astral arcanum teleported me to snow biome when I selected the jungle. If it's a craftable item, then you can use it to get a quick arena for the old duke/tier 3 acid rain, because of the ocean being flat.

I realised there was an update when I was doing my usual grinding for cryonic ore and suddenly arialite looked wayyyyy better

This update came out while I was right in the middle of my first calamity playthrough, so while Im a bit mad I wont be experiencing these cool biomesfor my first playthrough, Ill be excited to see them when i play again.

I have been playing a summoner run in calamity, took down Moonlord yesterday, and now i'm thinking i gotta restart my whole thing to get that new experience ...... I think i'll try out a warrior... or true warrior, but at least give myself a fishing pole and gear (maybe the mining ship) to make the early game easier .... Restartitis amirite?

Omg Sunken Sea looks so much more beautiful than ever before, I’m so happy that the Calamity devs are working on the reworks again

In the jungle I found weird pod that I tried to break but it didn’t do anything so I broke the block beneath it and Plantera spawned I was in pre hardmode

I was so confused because I recently beat calamity like ~month ago, so when I started a new playthrough yesterday I was so surprised at the new structures and textures. It made me think the generation in my first world was corrupted or something haha

The update is awesome! The only thing I’m a little sad about is that they removed Yharim’s Stims and Cadence Potion ;-;

The old lord claymore (sword dropped by bone snakes in underworld) is perfectly ballanced weapon

This new weapons and rework are hella fire time to make eggs again with my pc :D

I loaded up a new world and all of the flowers and giant spine trees in the brimstone crags were floating and the trees aren't mineable. I loaded up three more worlds and it happened all three times. Just wondering if it's a bug, if anyone else got this, or if it's just a normal thing that's supposed to happen.

Abyss was my favorite biome of all Terraria. It's been a long time since i've played Calamity. I wonder if it's worth to replay just to take a look at the rework on that underworld area

of all the times this couldve released... i JUST started hm in my calamity world and so im far enough that i cant just create a new one but not far enough for this playthrough to end very soon(to make things worse, im playing with thorium, so its gonna take even longer since ill be fighting the thorium bosses as well, even if theyre complete pushovers since they arent affected by death mode)

I've only played 1 full run of Calamity, so you can imagine my surprise when I start a new one and I see essence of havoc and shit

This update removed some items too, so when I went in to my world I thought my game was broken because multiple items said "unloaded item". This included a weapon I was using so I had to get another one.

Of course I start a playthrough RIGHT BEFORE A MAJOR UPDATE 😭😭😭😭
