The scene between Mikey and Carmy is brilliant. You can see how much they deeply love each other but don't know how to communicate it. Mikey realizes how much Carmy looks up to him, idolizes him really and Mikey feels so undeserving of his love, because he's "nothing". He doesn't want to pull Carmy down with him. Carmy wants his brother's approval and Mikey can't give it to him. And poor Natalie. Her whole nickname is something she did wrong as a child that her mom has never let her live down. She's empathetic and can't help but ask if she's ok. She's like a little kid again, scared and confused as her parent is melting down and wondering what she did wrong to cause it. It really gives so much more weight to the end of season 1 when she tells Carmy that no one asks her how she's doing. She's always asking everyone else, always the emotional rock, but no one asks her if she's ok. So you can see why she loves Pete. He's kind and his love is clear, earnest and unconditional. He's nothing like her family.

It’s cool how leading up to this episode, we really only see Carm, Richie, sugar and somewhat jimmy. And they’re all depicted as pretty crazy, at least in some fashion. Then we see this whole gathering from 5 years prior, and they’re probably the most sane ones outside of the unrelated spouses.

I've seen a few reactions but no one picks up on the fact that the mom must be bipolar/manic depressive since every time that timer goes off, her personality or her focus completely changes. I started to wonder if some of the timers were just in her head.

I loved this episode. We needed to see where all this trauma started for Mikey and Carmy, Sugar. Everyone. How each character deals with and overcomes these terrible emotional obstacles is part of the brilliance of the show. Family, food, trauma, death and rebirth are keys themes. The religious themes in the epi. were always amazing to see too. With The Ma"Donna" at one end of the table with Mikey looking like Jesus at one point, at the other end. Guilt, sacrifice and long suffering all around. Brilliant.

Congrats on being the 1st one out of the gate to post a reaction to this brilliant episode (at least the 1st in my algorithm). This will go down as one of the best episodes of TV... ever, which might unfortunately get overshadowed by the episode of The Last Of Us that will also go down as one of the best episodes of TV ever(Long, Long Time).

I can't think of any accomplished actor that doesn't want to be a part of this show. I don't believe much of what i see online, but it appears to be the dream gig for many of them. That's kind of believable tbh. This is a 10/10 show.

I love that Richie offered Natalie a Sprite. He knew she was pregnant from the start. I noticed watching this episode that Richie says he wants a mentor. We know how that goes. That adds so much to his jealousy of Sydney in season 1. Along with her being symbolic of erasing Mikey’s influence, she actually went out and got herself a mentor and it’s going well. I love the call back to Marcus’ trip to Denmark. Carmen is so sweet. 💕 I also notice Carmen gives Mikey that super intense look he gives both Sydney and Claire when he gives Mikey the picture. After seeing this episode, no wonder Carmen is the mopey sensitive one.

I honestly had the same reaction as this guy; the drama is so heightened and so crazy that it becomes funny to me. It’s such an unsalvageable fiasco that there’s nothing I can do but laugh, much like how Sarah Paulson’s character joked about how Donna would probably do something crazy before the end of the night. And there are definitely several scenes that are meant to be comedic, eg everyone’s reaction to the tuna casserole and anything John Mulaney says.

This chaotic flashback is probably from the subjective POV of Carmy's memory, which was why smudges on the timer and mum's dirty drinking glass were focused in detail (as he was meticulously trained and conditioned at work)... akin to his bad experience, the dishes of food were also perceived unsavory, to the point of resembling decomposed corpses. The sounds were vivid yet strangely distorted (e.g. dying animal/bear sounds produced by Michael). Our memories of the past deteriorate over time. Some stimuli stick while others fade. The fact that his mom Donna, played masterfully by Jamie Lee Curtis, drove into the living-room, soon after her breakdown shows the inconsistency of time of a dream-like replay of an unresolved mind.

I find it so odd that people are wondering why you’re laughing. It’s comical. And yeah very relatable for some of us. I very much saw a lot of my family in this episode but for me I use humor as a way to cope and seeing my family represented on tv was nice instead of this cookie cutter type of family you often see.
@Jeremy252
@Jeremy252 7 месяцев назад
I don't think it's so much that he was laughing but more that he didn't seem to take a whole lot of the episode very seriously. Sure, there's plenty of humor in the episode. And I honestly don't care that he was laughing like some of the other people in the comments. But I can understand being put off by the reaction. There's some pretty traumatic shit happening on screen. It's a very real depiction of an emotionally abusive family dynamic and people who have experienced it firsthand probably don't enjoy seeing someone treat it like they're watching an SNL skit. Apparently that doesn't apply to you, and that's great, but it definitely doesn't sit well with a lot of people.

I really enjoy reaction video's, and the person who is hosting is usually the reason. So I"m bewildered by your very disjointed style. "The Intruder" would be an appropriate title. Your edits are disjointed, you talk NONSTOP thorough the entire mosaic of scenes that reveal not much more than every characters annoying tics, and what is with your obvious disdain of J.L.C.?! You sneered "Oscar-Winner" SIX times before her phenomenal performance made you start listening, but why make reaction videos if your reactions are obscure, unenlightened, and sound like a person with multiple personalities muttering to himself? Consider hiring a vocal coach so that deep, garbled, choked off voice is for OTHERS to hear. You stepped ion the highlight of EVERY characters scene. One and done. Sorry.

It was great episode but i do get sad that it becomes about the 'celebrity' and name dropping and they take over the show. I do hope it's sprinkled sparingly on next season, and the current actors their characters abd story lines aren't short changed in order to focus on celebrity 😉
