6:56 You mention that M440i review and I wanted to let you know that video actually convinced me to get a F31 340i Touring here in Germany fitted with that power and sound package. It sounds so great and is an absolute hooligan. The best blend of practicality, power and inappropriate fun. Infact, you cannot even get that package retrofitted here anymore as it is just too loud acc. regulations. Anyway, thanks a lot for the great review of that niche spec back then and this one of the latest BMW now :)

Really nice car. I priced one out on the builder and it came out slightly cheaper than a Supra. Just factoring power, this positions itself against the Audi TTS, S4, S5, c43 amg, Supra, Z4, any 5.7l hemi, infiniti Q50/60 redsport, Kia stinger gt. Those are the cars that come to mind in this class of car.

We picked up our M240I 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it!

I like the last gen but this one hit me differently,I think I love the change.

I picked one up a couple weeks ago. Ill be honest. Looking at photos and videos of the car doesn’t do it justice. I thought the front was gonna be just ok but when i saw it in person i was shocked about how much more aggressive it looks than online. I thought the kidney grills were gonna be flat but they are at an angle which makes it a little bit more aggressive. But what really shines is the power and the powertrain. The 8 speed is so good! I definitely think bmw is understating the performance numbers

I agree the last gen looked better but I still really like it. I actually plan on buying this in July. It's a lot of bang for the buck imo

Dislike the look of this new gen, love the performance bump. Interesting to see the same steering feel crossed over from last gen as well. Have a 2018 with x-drive / m-performance exhaust, ton of fun and a great bargain. Let's see that new M2! Great review gents

I don’t get it, you all keep trying to compare this to a M2??? This is a 240i you should be comparing it to the body lines and design of the outgoing 240i. Not the outgoing M2🤔. The old 240i and M2 don’t even look the same. Wait until the new gen M2 comes out to compare the old M2 because I’m positive the lines will be much different. I actually think it looks pretty good on film. 😳

I'm with Jakub. It's ugly and they ruined it. From the looks perspective at least.

Yuri, there is no "finish line" with design language. You progress it enough until it evolves into a new language, and this new language BMW is speaking doesn't make a lick of fucking sense to me! Triangles! Sharp edges! Squiggles?! They took everything perfect about the outgoing model and spit on their fist-gripped pens and went to town. The rear is the largest offender IMO with all sorts of strange proportions and design cues that are absent anywhere else on the car. At least the headlights and tail lights flow, though they appear to be lifted from a different design entirely. And don't get me started on that greenhouse profile. This is just upsetting.

I love my M240i. Great overall package for the money and the b58 is such a beast!

As a BMW outsider, I actually think this car looks good. I typically don't follow BMW styling too closely, but to me this looks nicely proportioned, a little subtle but still fun. I'm sure the M2 will look good if this is its base.

I absolutely hated the looks at first like everybody else, but I hate to admit that the looks are seriously growing on me. Still definitely a downgrade from previous gen however

The previous 2 series and in particular the M2 CS were soooo good in terms of design, that I cannot love this one. It's not bad, for sure, but I miss the previous one.

I was so excited for this car. I’m currently leasing a 2018 M2 and was debating buying that out when the lease was up next year depending on how this car looked. I’m buying out the M2…Hoping the new M2 looks better, comes with the S58 and manual.

I love the new BMW 2 Series design. Absolutely awesome.

The steering feel is such a shame. I could never get over it in my M140i despite heavy mods with camber plates etc. So sad it is still the same in the new one. The M2 has a different steering, not just software and control arms. I think BMW does it on purpose so you can never turn a M-Lite into an M for sane money. Was the M340i really better?

I like most of the exterior styling and I think I could overlook the few things I don''t like about it. It is one of the better looking BMWs for 2022 and no manufacturer is really making a small, sporty 2 door coupe like this.

Right now I'm stuck between getting a 2016-2019 BMW 440i and the last gen M240i. I don't hate the new version, there are parts I like, but I just don't like how rectangular the car looks and how long the front end is. I've been rewatching your videos to help me decide between the two, I'm really excited to buy my first "newer" car and to have something I can comfortably drive year round with some decent power. So far I've only owed a 1999, 2007, 1994, and most recently a 1989. Love the vids guys, you are my go to for learning about new cars and finding out what may be worth purchasing. Keep up the great work!

I’m biased, because I have a mineral white one in the garage. Shadowline , red interior. I think it looks great myself. Steering isn’t a responsive as you’d like but grip, power, wow

Great video guys felt very balanced. I’m a huge old two series fan having owned an OG M2 and now have a CS. I’m excited that this car seems to be decent enough to make a lot of people happy, but I’m bummed by a lot of the design features (lights, odd front splitter design, roofline). The exterior isn’t bad to my eye, I like it about as much as the old M240; every M2 looks better though. I think the old two series is more visually exciting from every angle especially from the side profile. The new one is ok but the lights blatantly ruin it and make it come across as goofy and unfocused looking. I’m sad to hear the steering is weird as well as they have had that fixed on the two series since 2016 when the OG M2 came out, and it is the best I’ve ever felt in a bmw in the CS.

So ugly, this car proves that the kidneys aren't the real issue at BMW. The current Designers just have a shitty vision

It's the easiest thing in the world to say BMW screwed this up. When, in fact, BMW went ahead and gave us the look we'll love in the future - this will not date at all, at least, not badly. I don't care what you say about the outgoing 2 series, it now looks dated. Having said that, wait for the next 2 series in 6 years time, it will most certainly make this new one look dated again. Then, you guys will be saying how they screwed up the new car compared to the outgoing car. Then repeat for the next model bla bla. I see the pattern, don't you?

I just test drove this car on small track course with the m performance package, what a ride! Not to mentioned the exhilarating ride of the m340i which is such a sleeper. Both great cars. Definitely looking forward to owning one!

Why does this BMW looks soo unique to other BMW's??

I really appreciate how you mention the designers of the XM don’t care about offending internet commentators. Chris Harris has made this point multiple times of “let car manufacture tell US what’s good, not consumers demanding things which don’t make the car better and actually make it worse” . Love it. Let car manufacture do what they do best. If we love it great, if not, cool by us. Unfortunately money talks. And not in a way that supports a uniquely great engineering vehicle. But one that supports the masses of generic boring vehicles that all look and drive so similar.

I think they knocked it out of the park with this design. It's less "aggressive" but somehow more "muscular" all while feeling very modern / almost futuristic. The only aspect that I don't love is the large triangles in the front grille (seems like they were rushing and just threw some big angles to fill space). And that color....🤤.

If it doesn’t instantly grab you and you have to think about whether it’s good looking, it’s usually not.

I have the 2015 M235i xdrive and love it. I think BMW underplays HP and torque numbers. my car is just fast in sport mode. 2 series rocks

Also - The grilles open and close! Surprised they didn’t include this feature.

Its the tires! Both this and the 2018 M240i you guys drove both had squishy winter tires. These 2-Series seem to be really sensitive on what kind of tire you put on it. Get a stiff sidewall summer tire like Contis ECS (I have Michelin PS4S) and you get a bit more steering feel. It's still not perfect but WAY better than driving on winter tires. -BMW 2-Series Owner.

I’ve had mine for about 3 weeks and I really haven’t noticed the issue with the steering you guys mentioned. I’m gonna mess around with it and see if I notice it.

how does it drive compare to the new M340I?

As a f series 2 owner, I originally hated the looks of the 2er but it’s definitely beginning to grow on me.

I like this two series, I think it's 'good different'. Really nice interior, a lot better than shiny piano black (nice macro shots of the interior trim guys👍). The color is good different too.

I’ve had mine a little over a week and love it. Only thing that’s bugs me is the auto engine shut off which is a pain in the arse. Pictures don’t do it justice looks way better in person

Well I Think that the looks comparison is a bit unfair (M240i compared to M2) because a M240I from last Gen looks in my opinion not as fancy as the new one.

I wouldn't call these "M-lite" cars as BMW "diluting" the M brand. They basically have the same engine, chassis, and transmission (in most cases) as their full-fledged M versions. The only trade-off is between going all-out on track/race focussed features v/s a more daily-driveable car. I feel the M_40is (M340i, M440i, M550i etc) do a great job at giving you basically the same car with a slightly different intended use. The real dilution is by other brands such as Mercedes with their "AMG-Line" (not to be confused with the 43AMGs) version for non-performance cars or Audi with their "S-line". Those are purely cosmetic additions to their entry-level non-performance cars. BMW only puts the M badge on real performance cars. They're not diluting the badge but putting it on products catered to a slightly different audience. You could argue that they are changing direction and pivoting to newer segments, but that is not the same as dilution. For the vast majority of people who don't want to own 2 cars and still have a good performance to daily-driveablity tradeoff, it is the perfect solution. And that segment is clearly bigger and growing based on what BMW is currently manufacturing. Disclaimer: I own a 2019 M240i xdrive and as much as I loved the M2 and could easily afford it, I just can't daily that car with a manual gearbox and stiff suspension in the crowded, hilly and pothole-ridden streets of San Francisco where I live. So it was great for me to have most of that speed/fun but in a more comfortable package in M240i. Plus the xdrive helps with the hills/going to ski resorts in winter etc.

BMW shifts in their 8 sp auto are so fast…like PDK fast. The straight 6 hp is so underrated. Dyno that. Guaranteed it’s 10% under.

I like it, I mean I don’t love it, but I like it waaaay more than the M4. The tail lights should have been like in the M4 anyway

I’m glad it looks different. Honestly, most previous BMW’s all looked way too similar to me and a bit boring, besides some earlier M3’s. I loved the first gen 1 series, so it’s funny that the one reviewer disliked that too. This is the first BMW I may actually buy. I do agree that the exhaust tips are a fail. Thanks for the review!

You can't compare M240i looks to M2 CS looks, that doesn't make any sense. Of course the M2 is going to look better. Compare to old M240i which looked pretty wack as well. I like this new one and the new M2 will probably be a looker.

I always love the styling of new BMW’s. Their styling is always daring or new. It’s never evolutionary. People always hate on them and ten years later, we realise they actually look spectacular! Even the bangle butt BMW’s look good now!! So in my opinion BMW styling is ahead of its time

Another great vid. This new shape M240i reminds me of the BMW’s 635CSi but without the shark-nose - just the looks, that is … a modern day equivalent. I have an X4 M40i and just love the engine in that so this would be my ideal upgrade for when I no longer need the larger sized vehicle. You guys are fun to watch … thanks and look forward to more of your reviews.

I feel like a good competitor to this car is a RS3 despite it having 4 doors. Power and performance very close, as well as price.
