Funny how you said you thought you'd never touch SQL. I was in the same boat, so I always put off learning it. I recently started as a SOC Analyst and today I pretty much spent the whole day reviewing Database Activity Monitoring logs. Some dedicated SQL experience would've really helped.

If you have no job this wont take 6 months. Im doing one module a day roughly sometimes less but usually I get one done with all the exams completed. I should be able to finish everything in 1.5 months. Currently on the 6th ccourse.

Great content man. I am now more fired up in finishing Google's Cybersecurity Certificate Program. Thanks for the insights 🔥
@RyanPMcGowan
@RyanPMcGowan 11 месяцев назад
I have ten years of IT experience. I took the trial to see if it could be finished faster than they claim. I ended up finishing it in four days. I did everything in the cert except for the portfolio assignments (mainly because I didn't see what they wanted me to do for the portfolio to be of particular value). I didn't finish one of the Linux labs because it was very exact in how it wanted me to do something I did faster in a different way. The discount on sec+ is nice. The resources at the end are ok. The job board is nice. The AI interview tools are fine. The cert definitely doesn't prepare you for sec+ in any way at all. I personally feel that the Google cert is better than sec+ in every single way. It has you using the tools that you'll actually use and doing things you'd actually do in an entry level position. Unfortunately, I don't think HR is ready to give up sec+ as the "bare minimum" for looking at a SIEM and responding.

@@0x-003 You'd gain a lot of excellent hands-on experience, but I'm not sure how well that transfers to getting a job. I'm under the impression that one of the biggest selling points of Google's cert is that their projects double as a portfolio and proof of ability. TryHackMe has all the answers posted online, so I'm not sure employers put a lot of faith in it. Who knows tho, I'm neither a CS expert or a HR manager.

Thank you! In your honest opinionen, how long would you estimate it will take for a beginner to get to a level where he can apply for a job (assuming you're just a regular learner)? And in your experience, does companies even hire people without a university degree in this field ? I hate my current career and is getting hooked on cybersecurity, but I honestly can't wait 4-5 years until i'm job ready! would this google certificate be the one you would recommend if you were to start over ? sorry for all the questions haha

A couple of questions to ask yourself before you spend that much money: 1) How much value will this provide me? Will I get a return on my investment? 2) What will this provide me with that I can't get anywhere else for cheaper? 3) How much will you be able to actually learn in the limited amount of time of the bootcamp?

I want an all rounder laptop where i will be able to explore all parts of development (Android , software, ai ml), cybersecurity. Also 3d modeling software like Blender. I've never done gaming before but can consider it. Please recommend a few laptops under INR 70k. If cheaper great, I won't have to burn holes in my wallet. I've considered these few laptops, if there are other good options please feel free to recommend : g15 5520 Acer Nitro 5 hp victus Lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3 asus vivobook 16x All but some are i5 -12500/12450 H , 16gb , rtx 3050/2050 around similar pricing on Amazon.

Will it be helpful to learn Linux? And while you don't guarantee a job, what does the associated private job board for these certificates look like? And what about the Google Cloud Certifications? Does Coursera cover those as well?
@collinsinfosec
@collinsinfosec 11 месяцев назад
Will it be helpful to learn Linux? Absolutely. I highly recommend being proficient with the Linux shell. I am still learning myself! And while you don't guarantee a job, what does the associated private job board for these certificates look like? The private job board offers opportunities to see what companies look for and positions. And what about the Google Cloud Certifications? Does Coursera cover those as well? This course is not focused on the Google Cloud certifications. This is a Cybersecurity certificate specifically made for students who want to learn about the foundations of cybersecurity.

Let's be honest, the HR department often lacks awareness about Security Plus. Typically, it's the hiring manager who informs HR about it. Personally, I've taken a course that surpasses Security Plus in terms of quality. While it may be slightly generic, it's truly fantastic. I was able to complete it within a few weeks since I already had prior knowledge, and I managed to learn a few new things as well. Overall, it's a great certification. I believe it will gain traction over time, and perhaps Google will develop a more advanced version in the future. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of Security Plus because it doesn't provide significant value and it covers only the basics. Moreover, I tend to avoid vendor certifications because they require renewal every few years, which I consider a waste of time and money. Instead, I prioritize learning materials

I've always wondered, and maybe I just haven't seen your take on this, but why is Cybersecurity such a difficult field to get into, despite always hearing about how many job openings exist and how there aren't enough butts in seats, so to speak. I'm not necessarily even an outsider looking, I've been hired as a SOC Analyst myself. I genuinely don't understand where these barriers to entry exist and why. Are HR managers just honestly being that picky over trivial things, because a level 1 SOC Analyst position isn't OVERLY technical when compared to positions like a network engineering or Sys Admin role, so I don't see why your average IT help desk / college intern COULDN'T get hired, even though apparently they dont. I know this is kind of off topic from the video itself, but it's something you mention and hopefully I can get some clarification on what you meant.

No industry experience. Either you have a portfolio to show (Hacking on intigriti, hackerone, ... ) or you have internships to show. Certs ... In Europe they don't really matter, don't know about USA.

I am not sure what type of attack this would be considered. Maybe a macro of some sort? It could be a software bug rather than a type of mobile device malware. I recommend taking a look into conducting a manual malware scan. There are many on the Google Play store market. Malwarebytes is one such example: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.malwarebytes.antimalware&hl=en_US&gl=US&pli=1
