I think you're right, Ren heals through his music. He helps others to do the same, me included. The thing is, all healing is going to be emotional. So the immense feelings he stirs in us is disturbing and often uncomfortable, but SO GOOD. He tenderizes hardened hearts. I love your reactions, man, and particularly appreciate your director's eye.

great reaction. This song is amazing, beautiful and heartbreaking. When he said he was going to give us a live version of su!c!de but that it would be different... wouldn't have ever thought he'd take the last verse from it, reimagine a verse from Dominoes and freckled angels and then end with the chorus from freckled angels creating a whole new song. (If you aren't familiar, the song Freckled Angels was an homage Ren wrote for Joe shortly after his passing.) So much talent and skill and the courage to share it with us in the most vulnerable ways.

The thing that I love about Sam's visual choices is the way they provide calm support to the viewer as we wrestle with the weight of the song's emotion. The transition to Freckled Angels gets me every time.

I don't know if you have heard the full song Freckled Angels, which he used part of at the end, not that was his first song For Joe. It's beautiful bit doesn't have a mv. There is a live version though. He is opening so many people up and giving them the opportunity to express themselves emotionally and creatively. It's amazing to see it unfold and watch so many people blossom because of his music and his message. Ren, Sam, and Joe make quite a team.

"Suic*de" was hard to watch to the point that I have not been able to watch or listen to it again until now, because of my best friend taking his life 38 years ago. I have not even been able to watch a single reaction to it. It was a sad, haunting, gut-wrenching tribute. However, after listening to "To Joe" several times, I came to the realization that as sad and emotional as this song is, it has had a healing effect on me and has given me a sense of closure. Even the part that "gutted" me in "Suic*de" impacted me differently this time around. Anthony Ray (@AnthonyRay) said (I am paraphrasing) that he felt that after all these years, Ren seems to have found a measure of acceptance regarding the loss of his best friend. Anthony's comment suddenly made me aware of the song's impact on me. I think I am actually able to watch or listen to "Suic*de" again. Although I will probably not watch any reactions to it, as I consider this song to be much too personal, and watching someone else's grief would only compound my pain.

You could feel the raw emotion coming from his voice. Joe's looking down on him and i bet he is so proud. Keep up the good work Ren 👍👍

I always go to Ren's channel first to watch a new release. Now you are my favorite reactor to go to after that. I love how you not only listen to his music but you feel it. Ren has that affect. I don't know how Ren made it all the way through without crying. I heard him get choked up at the end. It must have been so difficult for him. I heard he watched this with Joe's parents and they all cried and his mother hugged him. I'm sure she felt grateful for keeping her sons memory alive with this beautiful tribute. ❤‍🩹

In my very humble opinion, Ren has shown us mortals can do anything we want if we only allow ourselves. Also his none classical training makes in my eyes what we call Genius. You can tell his raw talent is the real instrument. Iam just amazed what iam discovering at the young age of 60.

You know right, that Ren raised $21K (UK pounds sterling) to donate to the RNLI (our Coast Guard basically though 100% volunteer based) as a thank you for their efforts to find Joe? Ren himself has a gofundme for his continued exhaustive search for treatment for his own debilitating decades long battle with Lyme Disease. But he raised that money for RNLI to say thank you for everything they did to find Joe. And went back to Anglesey to personally deliver it, after being in Canada since January to receive treatment for his illness. THAT'S one helluva tribute. Keep him healthy Joe. This was shot in Calgary when Sam & Josh came to Calgary for a week to shoot a bunch of videos for his next musical album.

I cry every time I watch this video. I know how he feels. No matter how many years have gone by, you always miss the loved ones that were taken away from you too soon. Losing a soul mate to self-sacrifice is never-ending thoughts of what I could have done but didn't, how could I have not been there when they needed me the most, and why wasn't my love enough for them to fight through the darkness is the hardest for those left behind.

I really appreciate you pointing out all these cool things. I have heard of the thirds thing before but I hadn't thought about it with regard to any of Ren's videos. This one, when I could watch it without melting into a puddle on the floor, I was just aware of the times Sam had zoomed in on the piano keys and I was pleased I could see what keys he was playing without having to work it out. You're definitely educating me and I love it. I keep saying that Ren references his own songs within his songs a lot. Imagine it like a tube map, where the songs are stations, all linked to each other, however distantly. He's building a world here, not just writing songs, and he put his friend right in the middle of that map as far as I can see. And though he's gone, Ren has made Joe immortal. It's sublime. Do you realize the “rule of 3rds is part of the Fibonacci sequence?” It begins with a splice of Violet’s tale & Suic*de. It leads into Dominos and ends with Freckled Angels. In mathematics, the Fibonacci sequence is a sequence in which each number is the sum of the two preceding ones. In my case the two whom I’ve created are the freckled angels who have both saved me and will proceed me into a greater future.

Pro tip for you brother. When you hit the play button, you no longer need to use the mouse to start or pause the video. You can simply hit the spacebar. That way the mouse cursor doesn't hover over the bottom of the video you are watching. Also, if you want to go back 5 seconds just hit the left Arrow key, FF 5 is the right arrow key. And while many notice details in the shots, you point out why those things are even more amazing. You're also very expressive, so we can see (and feel) what the song makes you feel. Then he did this song. Ren is beyond any artist I know, he brings you into each song. Yes, Sam does an amazing job at videoagraphy.

But in the back of my mind I am recalling when Ren talked about all the situations in his o. Family and his father (which I don't think is part of his current picture like his mother and siblings are kind of are now) but his father is the one that got him his first guitar and now his musical talent on a host of instruments out of necessity to bring him forward to his level is just remarkable. Ren is one of those artists that creates beautiful art that is sometimes hard to watch. The emotions he projects can be overwhelming sometimes and I have to wait a while between viewing and listens to give my soul a time to recover. No to mention Sam's choice of angles. His intuition on when to pull back then move in just adds to the the emotion of the music.

I feel like the bottle was a metaphor for Joe, being ‘lightening’, which you can’t catch in a ‘bottle’. Like, Joe was too much for this world, so you can’t hold him. Sorry, it sounded better in my head. 🤦🏻‍♀️

maybe it's because i'm high... but the selection of this location, incorporating the cityscape from this angle, might have been decided by the string of orange lights across the top of what appears to be a stadium. in terms of these orange lights in relation to their 'use' in the video - for the majority of the video they are situated over Ren's right shoulder, which might be representative of Joe as his guardian angel, and when the camera moves around a bit more, they seem to flow over Ren's head in an almost halo-like manner. just sayin'...
