Out of nowhere. From 17-0 down against the best side in the world, Argentina this Saturday shocked the rugby world, beating the Springboks in heroic style. So, how did they pull it off, is this a worry for South Africa, and how does it set up this weekend's title decider?

@@rudolphduplooy3835 Actually that is definitely a Bok failing. We NEVER give teams big beat downs like Australia and NZ do. The SA mentality is typically to not disrespect opposition. The only time I have seen them do it was against Wales because Wales sent a hugely understrength side which was disrespectful in the first place. And against second tier sides in the RWC because... well... its difficult not to put cricket scores on.

Focusing on the kick papers over glaring cracks throughout Libbok's entire performance. Missed kicks to touch, running flat/sideboard, hospital passes. He's suppose to be the superior attacking flyhalf, but we lost all momentum we were regaining (while Pollard on the field) when Libbok came on. He neutered our attack completely. He cracked under the pressure long before that final kick.
@Karma-qt4ji
@Karma-qt4ji День назад
@@matthewvanrensburg3824 Not even remotely true. Focusing on kicks papers over the glaring cracks in everything else Pollard does (or doesn't do). We were not gathering momentum when Pollard was on the field, unless you think that a tap kick by Reinach from a maul penalty can be credited to Pollard (a conversion he missed by the way); what we were doing is stopping conceding tries, the first two of which were as a direct result of Pollard's defensive failures. 4 tries in 21 minutes. I don't know how many times I have to say this but that is as many tries as we have conceded in the first four games of the tournament, as many tries as we conceded in two games against Ireland, as many tries as we conceded in the entire knock out stages of the RWC. Conceded in 21 minutes against the number 7th ranked side in the world, with all respect to them, due to piss poor defence (2 missed tackles by Pollard, 3 missed tackles by van Staden). What momentum were we gathering because of Pollard LOL??? Came on as a replacement in the second game against Australia, passed the ball twice (once behind the entire backline to kill off an attacking move and once to Manie to set up the play) and kicked 1 from 2. This is your number 1 flyhalf??? You think there might be a reason that Sacha has stepped straight into the starting lineup, that Manie was chosen to start every game in the RWC knock outs except the final? And before you go on about the England game, just know that the weather was so horrific over that period that we were always going to revert to 10 man rugby - we did against England and it worked, we did against New Zealand and it worked. That's PollyBall and under those conditions there is no Springbok flyhalf. But if you want an attacking backline.... well, either use Sacha / Manie, or make sure Willie is on the field. Even the set piece move for Fassi's try came from Luki stepping in as playmaker and leaving Pollard just to shift it wide. They cover for him every single time and you fall for it hook, line and sinker and even when he loses us the second Irish test, you think he did enough because he kicked all his kicks??? PollyBall doesn't work in dry conditions boet.

TRC bonus point isn't for 4 tries. You need 3 or more tries more than your opponents. So, Argentina need to score 3+ more tries than the Boks and finish 7+ points in front of them. It is technically possible, but isn't going to happen. The slightly sad part is that it is likely than NZ will overtake Argentina and finish in 2nd place in the TRC, although I hope Australia mess that up.
@Tar-ZA-n

So, I gotta partially disagree, I watched the Argentines beat the ABs and I called Argentina beating the Boks. I think this Argentine squad *could* beat the Boks by more than 3 tries. It is a tall order - but this Argentine squad seems to believe in itself. I have seen the Argentines start strong against top-tier teams, then loose faith (and energy) in the second half and crumble. This squad seems to be able to keep the pressure up into the second half from a physical standpoint - and from a mental standpoint, they seem to believe they can win. Making the risky plays in the end of the second half because they think they can pull it off, rather than going for a safe pick-and-go to wind down the clock play. And they are now in a position where they could, for the first time, win the Rugby Championship - they would need a performance for the ages - but I think they can do it. And what a game it would be if they did.
@Tar-ZA-n
@Tar-ZA-n День назад
@@MajesticDemonLord You’re entitled to your opinion, but my opinion is that this Argentina team as good as they are, would be hard-pressed to beat Allistair Coetzee’s boks by a 3 try margin playing in SA. Now, if there were another bad day at the office for the boks the Argentines may even squeak a win and that would be even more impressive than last weekend. But saying they “could beat the boks by more than three tries” is unfathomable to me or anyone who has been paying attention to these boks since 2018.
@MajesticDemonLord
@MajesticDemonLord День назад

You took the words out of my mouth; they play magnificent running rugby & when they're on song no other team can compare, even the French. To them it's like having to have effortless Maradona skill-set when running lines until they're satisfied. No other team has this. Dare I say it, more is to come out of this nation & Maradona was a big fan of rugby. I'd hate to think what he would've been like at no:9 or fly-half. The Argentinians have great expectations of this side 2nd to their soccer team & crowd attendance is testament to that, ...compared to lousy New Zealand
@groenrizla2513
@groenrizla2513 День назад
For too long the Boks have relied on getting a kickable penalty to scrape a win in tight games and it's always worked including winning the RWC but this time perhaps they weren't expecting Pollard to get tired out so they can reshuffle positions to keep him on. Boks didn't take into account KLAs' card and a brilliant 17 minutes from the Pumas and therefore didn't think they'd need a kicker to close the game out and remember these games always come down to a single pen kick, missed kick or drop goal and that's where NZ lost the final, where France lost, NZ in the RC etc Otherwise the Boks are playing well above their average and it's been working, they'll be a force when they start getting the rest of their game sorted out and that's where Rassie is focused on, not on relying on goal kicking to win like in the last RWC and he's admitted he's willing to lose a few games to achieve these objectives. That's why I think the teams experimenting now with new strategies and building depth are going to be ready for RWC27. The rankings are only important at the beginning of 2026 so this is the perfect time to be experimenting. As they say, "the kicker doesn't lose the game but they can win it" Go look at all the games the Boks have won and lost since the RWC, all comes down to crucial goal kicks, Boks lost to Ire because Libbok couldn't kick the 3 pointers, NZ would've won the RWC and a recent RC test is they got that last goal kick, France would've won if Kolbe didn't charge down that conversion, Ireland won the 2nd test because of that drop goal. Have Libbok on to end the game and he lived up to his unfortunate reputation just like he lost it vs Ire, fir the Stormers in the URC and now Arg in the RC so now Kolbe and Hendrikse will share the gial kicking next week. Nevertheless Rassie is not fussed, he's developing something else, I guess like NZ was like in the old days, couldn't kick but could score tries and Boks are getting closer to that, how many try opportunities did they squander last week against Argentina, that's what they looking at and why they not bothered about kicking performance or even winning. However Libbok has been demoted to the starting lineup and that must hurt him a bit.

If this was the 6N, a 1 point win for Argentina would still see the Boks on 20 (losing BP) and Argentina on 18 (or 19 if they got a try bonus).

Watching this and it's wild that every single ruck the boks are off their feet and tackling players beyond the ball. I guess they'd realised the ref wasn't calling it, but it's not even subtle!

Boks get away with so much its criminal. I think nore of their budget goes to the ref than the players.

@@Edgycoo Funny how everytime we win or even just play a game you blame the referee or you accuse us of match fixing. Because apparently everytime your team plays against us it's unfair and you think that your team is entitled to winning the game no matter what happened actually in the game 🤡🤡🤡🤡

Well it's what Rassie has often said "Learn to play the ref as well as the game". No good playing one style only to realise the ref doesn't notice those quirks and penalises like Bryce Lawrence.

@@itsleytthegamer4791 well to be fair the IRB came out in a statement and said the try in the final wc should not of been disallowed. So thats an undeserved wc. So how did they beat us - Manie has no BMT, we played like arse for 20 minutes and they had an amazing 20 minutes. Overall we fielded some players that are not international level, or approaching the end of their time being so, and they just weren't good enough against a very good Argentine team.

These guys play great rugby. loved the game, love the way they play, the way they beat tackles. they are a good team to watch, from going from a boring team to watch but since the early 2000s they have been interesting to me and lifted their level hugely since joining the rugby championship. They have a good little winger too he has speed. Mateo Carreras. btw argys been coming for awhile so this win wasn't surprise, they beat Australia 67-27 lol

A breakthrough performance and, hate to say, but they stole a script from the All Blacks. If they can do THIS ridiculousness against the Boks, auspicious. The daring, then to pull it off. They are no longer learning to play run away with the ball passing rugby. They are doing it very well. Mad coach. against this team. Now against the real gold and green deal fury at home in a few days, what fun. What will happen?

I was in Wellington at an Argentinian bakery when Pablo Matera and a few others on the team came in, very tight space so had to say something to leave, usually I like to poke a bit of fun or get a laugh but this time round I didn't know what to say to him so I just wished him luck for the text the next day, Argentina went on to win the game. Part of me wishes I didn't do that, part of me reckons they've more than just deserved their wins against ever single team in the rugby championship.

I really hate to say this because I think SA are a great team. But this time the ref couldn’t save them. Many of you were thinking this. The pass just before the penalty was forward. But of course this is SA so it gets to overlooked. Then intentionally trapping an opponent in a ruck and laying on him so he can’t roll away. SA deserves to lose this.

u20s were the closest to get to England at this summer u20 World Cup. Plenty of world class talent to come from that. New franchise in SLAR in Tucuman. Argentina's player depth is the deepest it has ever been. It's great that Albornoz at last has been used at FH. Santi Carreras was never a natural 10. Oviedo, Chocobares & Gonsalez are & will be absolute monsters. Just a real shame that NZ & SA have decided not to look outwards but inwards again leaving the Pumas & Wallabies not to mention Fiji & Japan in the lurch.
