Everyone thought we'd comeback from the world cup with a hangover - little did they know we've experienced it so many times it doesn't affect us anymore
Buckle up, something tells me there's a different mentality to this Irish team and they're gonna have no mercy for anyone. Italy definitely playing miles better than the WC and hoping for a good match.
As an Irish person, I'm always worried about Italy. It's only a matter of time before you beat us. But when? Not Sunday, I hope. Always wishing the best for Italian rugby otherwise.
I'm french and I was absolutely astonished that they non only found the perfect strategy against us, but executed it perfectly. Now I'm worried because other nations might just do the same :') and I secretely nurture a love and hate relationship with James Lowe
As an Irish man I felt the same way in past about Vincent clerk I hated him because he used to destroy us but one of the best wingers of all time in my view.
your analogy about irelands attack being like when you have played a video game for too long and you know exactly how to beat the computer is the best analysis ive heard regarding this Irish team. Absolutely spot on. And yet, with such brutal efficiency, every time it happens I am still surprised and in awe of this team.
Fair play Squidge man, wasn't sure I'd be seeing any videos from you for the 6N, know you find the workload really stressful and might've needed a decompress after the WC. Still, it's always a treat to get your analysis and loving the vids as usual. Hope you're not busting your balls to get these out though, most important thing is to enjoy the tourney
Hahahahahaha yea the rugby players have returned to playing but you thought squidge needed more time off from his job....? Like what just not work this year coz he he did a few extra videos at the world cup..... do you have a big week at work n go I'd better take the next one off.....
@@MrStevo1080Yep. That's exactly what I do. Work flat out for 3 weeks. Take one off. You should try it. Work's wonders having a week's holidays every month not including Christmas and afew other national holidays.
@@MrStevo1080mate squidge had one week off the whole of last year, working 6 or 7 days every other week. I think he's due a bit extra time off this year.
I listened to the post match analyses on two Irish tv stations and a popular Irish sports podcast, and none of them got anywhere near as close to explaining what we saw as you did. So thanks a million! A lot of us didn't know what to make of Ireland's win. The margin is historic, but France were very poor, so what does it all mean...? But the breakdown you give, especially regarding France's kicking game, helps us understand how it all happened. That it was as much Ireland's impetus as it was France's collapse. So hopefully we go on go win the tournament and even get two consecutive history making Grand Slams. That would be something! Looking forward to a video, if you make one, about that crazy Wales/Scotland match! Cheers, mate.
This is all the vid contains though. TV channels must present a much broader programme. I sometimes tune into the Irish channels and find the analysis top notch and pretty neutral. Lots of praise for the opponents.
@@helenaville5939Yeah, look, it wasn't meant to be a dig at Irish tv pundits (who are former pros with plenty of medals) but more praise for Squidge. The Irish podcast in question, Second Captains, is excellent. But it amazes me that a guy on RU-vid can provide more insight than the people who have actually won the Six Nations!
@@LisztyLiszt Sure, but my point was that tv channels can't go into this kind of in-depth analysis because it's too intensive and time-consuming. They have to cater for many different tastes by giving a broader view of things in one programme. Squidge gives us nothing but in-depth analysis - nothing more. Squidge even admitted himself he's having to cut down on the vids because of the time it takes to do these kinds of in-depth vids. Hope you enjoy the rest of the 6N. 👍😊
@@helenaville5939 Not in agreement there. There is a huge appetite for this type of analysis, even in the main stream. When Shane Horgan has the guts of an hour to describe the Ireland v France game on a podcast (Second Captains) for people who want the nuts and bolts, and doesn't mention the kicking game of France being muted after 20 minutes, tells me that he just didn't notice it, not that he did but his audience are too idiotic to understand it. The thriving community on RU-vid who follow Peter Windsor (F1), Lantern Rouge (cycling), Tifo (soccer), etc. etc. and of course Squidge here, shows that there's a huge appetite for a deeper analysis but the tv networks figure that a big name personality, even if limited, will attract the masses, even if that's not what the masses actually want... That's my view anyway. Enjoy the tournament.
@@LisztyLiszt Ok, but I still think you missed my point - probably because I didn't make it clearly enough. Squidge does a great job of giving detailed and in-depth analysis -- and I'm a long-time subscriber. But why do you want everyone to do the same thing and provide us with in-depth analysis? Isn't it great that there's so much variety being provided instead? The tv channels provide a broad range of content and don't get stuck into in-depth analysis. Squidge doesn't give us anything else except in-depth analysis. I think both of these producers of content are good at what they do, and I love having so many choices of different types of content. I guess I don't feel we need to criticize one type of content in order to praise another type. That's really all I'm saying. Thanks for the exchange, it's always interesting to get a different view point from my own. 👍😊
Quality as always! That comparison of Ireland v Scotland approaches is why you do the best analysis on youtube. Also appreciate (as an Italian) your coverage of how we play…often missing in other channels/podcasts. Diolch
I don’t know what hoodoo Ireland have over Scotland. For some reason even when Ireland are badly out of form and Scotland are flying they turn to shite against Ireland. It’s happened the last 20 years pretty much every time. It’s odd too because in that time period Scotland have beaten great English and French teams who are far better than some of the Irish teams they lost to in the 2010s. As a Scot I’ve zero hope of a win in Dublin, even last year Ireland were god awful , we were at home looking for a first trophy since 99 and we just did nothing in that first half.
@@ThunderDawg89agreed . I think it may also be that our pack just isn’t good enough. We have a great backline but the pack get bullied and pushed around against a strong Irish pack and leave our backs on the back foot all game . Some of the lads in the backs like duhan and kinghorn seem to go into their shell against them too , probably need a shift of tactics and as you said Gregor doesn’t seem to have that.
@eoin8156 definitely a shift of tactics. Its all there, that Scottish back line would be terrifying if they had a better platform to start attacks with front foot ball, but the forwards still seem to be doing "old forward things", the game has moved on and 1-15 need to have decent hands and the rugby IQ to use them at the right time. Like I said, I don't think Gregor is the man that will push that, I also haven't the foggiest who the SRU could even approach.
Great vid as always. Ireland are looking as terrifying as ever and I cant see anyone stopping them from back to back GS. As a Scotland supporter I am also scared of an angry French pack walking over us this weekend, but hope the cold weather of Murrayfield is enough to put them off their game. God I love the Six Nations!
This French Forward Pack may be big but, their Achilles Heel is making them run by keeping the ball in play. Yes they will have their moments of domination in every game but, the sooner their opponents can force Galthie to go to his bench, the better the odds are that they will gain a win.
@@fawltyoldboybasil.2178 This time the bench, especially the fly half and the second row (1st and 2nd international match for them) did well for the French. Scotland dominated completely the first half time and most of the second.
An honourable mention to Ireland being smart enough to play Karl Dickson like an absolute fiddle at the breakdown. This isn't a criticism of the ref at all, it's a nod to a team doing their homework and knowing his style of reffing. As much as Ireland play a beautiful flowing game their intelligence is something that sets them apart.
Is that the same Karl Dickson who penalized Ireland eight times in a row in the 20 minute period after he gave a red card to France? At least two of those penalties he gave against Ireland were highly questionable. Not only that, but other than Willemse penalties, France conceded only six compared to Ireland’s 13 in the entire game; That Dixon? Yeah, they really had him fooled alright. Dickson rode Ireland mercilessly for some time to get the crowd back onside. How many teams put in such a decisively superior performance, but have twice as many penalties as they opposition?
Ireland was the best team. There is no dought in my mind..I think that even if Willemse hadn't been fired we would have lost.. Ireland was impressive, They had and have a great confidence in their game..They really desserve this great Victory.. Congratulations 👏👏👍👍
Really interesting and insightful analysis, aki and mccarthy were making phenomenal yardage but this breakdown shows its more than just "big guy run fast now". Loving the vids as always, keep it up (at a pace that is healthy and rewarding for you).
Brilliant as usual Squidge. Lots of the high school rugby team my lad plays for here in California are learning a lot about rugby from your channel. They won't find any better analysis out there. Cheers. Watching France squeek by Scotland today it was clear enough that they are well off the team of the past few years. People will be looking for Galthié's head if this keeps up. Down Ntamack, Dupont and now Aldritt bodes poorly for the rest of their campaign.
I enjoy your channel because I learn so much about rugby itself. So please keep going with the technical and strategic videos of the best sides. It is really awesome.
Honestly, once a week is fine and it doesn't have to be a match review. Loads of people do match reviews, I think we all prefer it when you passionately explain the thing that caught your eye. A focus on a key thing or two and then other wee things connected to it is great. Obviously we all want our teams to be the ones that get the analysis but I think we trust that any really interesting features will end up somewhere. Personally I'd rather we get one a week every week than 2 or 3 a week in the 6N and then none for a month or two as you recover.
Excellent breakdown. To me it's our micro attention to detail....every single player seems to be drilled to almost perfection into where they must be at any phase of play. Accuracy and physicality to get us over the gain line at every opportunity. A long way to go in this championship but back to back grand slams would be something very special.
Thank you Squidge for such an informative and yet fun analysis .. just love it .. entertaining and so well researched .. learn so much .. keep it going 🙏🏽✌️🏉
It's interesting to see Sean Edwards defence style getting dismantled in this game, I wouldn't want to have been anywhere near him in that dressing room
magnificent analysis...way above a lot of the expensive punditry as seen on TV and other media outlets. A lot of that tended to focus on the loss of Dupont and Ntmack and how 'badly' France played. But your analysis is clear. France were 'dismantled'. And last year it was not too dissimilar...even when France had their talisman.
I think one of the key things that none of the other teams have been doing is planning beyond the world cup. Ireland knew the world cup would be the last time jimmy sextin pulled on the green jersey, so they bedded in other options and built for future where as everyone else was building for the world cup Ireland where building for beyond. Ireland looked like a team that was hungrier than ever with more freshness than any team I watched over the weekend. I still don't understand how you can let you general go play for the seven's team and basically let your national team sacrifice it's self just to be able to have a star face on an Olympic poster!!!!! Sean Edwards in his interview afterwards looked shell shocked.
Great video. Great analysis. I like the focus, and the depth of analysis you go to. Keep it up. Not one mention of jammy sexpot either - a new era indeed.
If you are referring to the Sheehan try, it was a case of those 4 French forwards attempting to push the Ireland maul over the sideline - the Irish pack shifted and turned so quickly that 3 of those French forwards lost their footing and fell over each other - TB and the 4th French forward came down last.
Yea i am and i know what happened its just something cool i noticed in the game as its very similar to another try they scored in the new Zealand test series that squidge broke down that helped me notice in this try @@fawltyoldboybasil.2178
Another masterpiece. Nice to see the moving images again. Praying that World Rugby stop playing silly buggers with your access to content for the tournaments outside this competition.
Love your videos and analysis. It has added so much to my enjoyment of the game. Thank you. The side by side comparison is really good. Would love to see more of that.
with as good as South Africa have been in the last 5 years and lets be honest they've been pretty damn good back to back World Champions but Ireland ? we are the one team they could not beat during that time currently riding a 3 game winning streak against SA hell outside of the All Blacks were undefeated in almost 2 years so real challenge looking forward to the summer
Brilliant!!! Totally enjoyed....eh, but, and humbly, I suggest you change the 'Anton Dupont of website builders' ...to...well, aah, any one of the Irish players!!! Ha! You could begin with...lets say, 'The Gibson-Park of web-builders' or 'The Big Joe Mac...' then mover on the James Lowe of...ok you get the drift! Other than that, great stuff.
This was excellent. So glad i just didnt click in but instead waited for the children to go to bed so I could enjoy with a beer. Brilliant analysis paired with comedy, best review ive seen all week.
smh look don't get me wrong going Back to Back Grandslams would be cool no denying it it has never been done in the Six Nations era but lot of Rugby to be played lol final game against Scotland will be tough yes i know in recent years we have dominated that fixture winning i think 13 of the last 14 games but it's no secret they are really really pissed off that they keep losing to us there is genuinely no team in the world who want to beat us more then Scotland right now and espicaly if it is a scenario of possibly playing spoiler by denying back to back Grandslams I'll never forget 2017 when we did it to England in their own back yard going into that game LITERALLY everyone had complexly written us off said we were going to get wiped off the field and we didn't have a hope in hell what happened ? we beat them 13-9 held them tryless the entire game ........ in i would argue the greatest game of Rugby Ireland has ever played i must also remind you that not only was England going into that Game looking to go back to back Grandslams but to also break the world record for consecutive wins yes they still won the Championship that year but it was really watered down and you could see it on the players faces they had the chance to make History and this was a Pyrrhic victory for them
It certainly helped that Ireland had practically no handing errors and when that massive Lowe kick stopped short you knew Ireland were going to have a day. Great analysis. Why oh why are you not a famous analyst on TV? You never even mentioned the Marseille factor or Taylor Swift.
Ireland are in some shape at the moment. And the new blood coming in looks class as well , while the under 21s are also destroying teams. Long may these heydays continue! :)
I love your videos soo much! Just want to check when will you post the world cup final review that got removed? I am still looking forward for that video and want to hear your thoughts😄 keep up the great work!
Great analysis. Did it help that the Ireland players had played so many fewer games since the RWC than the France players? It was mentioned on the Rugby union daily podcast. Ireland really look after their players and have good tactics
It's up to each country to manage their own national team. So if one set of players plays more - or less - than another set, that's all part of each country's winning formula. It all contributes to wins and losses.
my take on it Scotland are a good team but they just don't have that ruthlessness in terms of finishing off the opposition they almost choked a 27 point against Wales of all teams yes the worst Welsh team in what 17 years or so
Interesting that Scotland's shape on attack is similar to Irelands, the difference is the implementation and decision making to create spaces and openings.
yea from an Irish guy Scotland are good but the problem is you don't beat Ireland at our own game you need to come up with a new plan because you don't have the power in defense to back it up that is just and honestly i think Ireland's defense in a big way is more important then our attack because The Green Wall in prime form just suffocates and smothers opposition attacks leading to turnovers where we can either kick a penalty between the posts or into the corner very rock solid in defense @@justme9818
