100% this, I used to think that rugby guys were athletic and brave but not that bright. Apparently these international players are genuis level - to think about these things while tired and getting smashed the whole time; amazing.
By far the best analytical show, even compared to the mainstream corporate funded shows. Fantastic quick inserts of humour and even better assessments on player intentions and reactions. Love this channel.
@@johnbo51able Fully deserved that loss, at some point South Africa need to stop being so predictable. Would love to see them using that backline more instead of the constant kick and chase tactics
There's nothing complex about what the Boks do, they have a predictable game plan and they execute it well! I think the Boks will be chastened on the end of year tour. The box-kicking bomb squad routine is unlikely to be as effective against teams with more complex attacking and defence patterns as the French and Irish
@@johnbo51able Yeah it's starting to look like one of those 2 teams you mentioned will lift the Web Ellis cup. The predictable tactics of the Boks will be our downfall. The ABs weakness is their forward pack, i think they missing the likes of Moody, Franks, Kaino, Read , some tough forwards who can stand up to any pack
@@Xavier.1.. I'm betting they win All their remaining games before the RWC will slip past France jn the ranking, ranked 2nd. Frankly, I don't give a hoot about ranking. WE have the Opening game, three teams will be targeted, France, beat us 40-25 Stade de France, Saint Denis, Ireland beat us on home soil 1st test series win, & England put us out in 2019 RWC SF's. Hope management keep their best on the field and don't get too smart for themselves. They have two teams to play with and either could beat anybody on the day. Making the Semi's means the goal is two games away from WC glory.
The thing that did it for me was Le Roux's hug into the audience at the very end. Just demonstrates rugby's uniquely beautiful ability to transcend ethnic and political controversies and give the fans something greater to celebrate. Loved the video keep up the good work!
One thing that surprised me from this game was how calm and collected the Boks were following the win. There were no tears of joy, excessive praying on the pitch or group hugs. Wonder if that's their longer term thinking, focus.
That takes me back to how Kitch Christy trained the Boks back in '95. Man those guys were focused and spoke about it later in interviews. The confidence that the coach inspired because they had a very clear plan and work to do when one part of it was done. Someone (from Zambia actualy) asked on the Springbok group what the Holy Grail refers to. He clarified the coach mentioned it in one of the half time speeches during BIL tour. BIL is many things but defo not the holy grail to us. I think he caught a reference to the long term plan being discussed. Consecutive World Cups. Just my opinion though.
Indeed, we need to get rid of this rubbish modern notion that we do better as the underdogs. There is no nation that should be able to touch us. In the apartheid years, this self-belief was tainted with racism, but now we must build this confidence forward as a nation combining the strength of all our cultures and ethnicities. We should make the world tremble at the feet of our forwards, and make them weep by the ferocity of our attack. Beating the ABs should not be seen as a crowning achievement, but the natural result of great preparation and execution.
Great observation, I also thought they'd jump for joy like I did infront of the tv...but they were just very reserved, happy of cause, but just very calm and business like... definitely a physiological and psychological framework that points to a thing that says ..we haven't won nothing yet. And that to me ring bells of 2019 Rassie World Cup speak after winning each game on their way to the Cup final....
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. I wish more people were able to appreciate the game on this level; maybe then the Boks wouldn't get so much flak for playing "boring" rugby. To most fans/spectators, the ideal game apparently is what Super Rugby was for years, with non-stop running, crazy offloads and 12 tries per match, with a final score of 40-38. Bok test rugby is more like a game of chess. The type of chess where the pieces can hit you in the face with a hammer.
The Boks were outstanding. Calm, measured, totally understood their game plan. This allowed them to be organised, handle pressure well, and execute without really even considering what the opposition was doing or otherwise. The ABs were the exact opposite. Panicked, all over the show, a dreadful or even non-existent game plan. Therefore disorganised, error ridden, and no script to play from, This sits squarly with the coach. Grow some balls NZR and sack him And the captain cant handle the pressure. I cant think of another ABs captain who capitulated like Sam Cane did. Put the poor guy out of his misery! His leadership skills are not up to the task.
@@NathanMcClintock agreed on the ABs looking all at sea; I've watched NZ teams play for many years, and even on the odd occasion they did lose, I've never seen them looking this out of sorts. It's so unusual, I don't know what to make of it. We're so used to seeing NZ playing with an almost instinctive freedom, and clearly they're not comfortable with themselves atm. Ironically the Boks are the ones that have for many years being accused of being a "dumb" team with lots of brawn but no gameplan or finesse. This crop clearly still have the muscle in spades, but they're learning how to play a very smart tactical game as well. Now just to be more clinical about converting opportunities into points.
Peachy, Really sweet, with lingering after flavour. Wiese saw the threat and chased hard - now the super slo mo camera - Wiese tied Jordan`s bootlaces together - with one hand ! Bang he goes down. epic camera work and awesome team play. Jordan chewed on a grass sarmie.
@@austingtir I'm often frustrated that more players don't try that when they're been beaten. Even if it only comes-off 5% of the time, not trying guarantees a 0% chance of a player continuing his run.
I love how you transform what on the surface seems like a good game of rugby into showing how skilled, professional and strategic the players are. It lifts my appreciation for the game. Well done.
B Barrett is rubbish he just does aimless kicks right the the opposition and when he kicks to touch he makes hardly any ground same with jordie they both need to be dropped
Something has to be said about Kolisi's workrate. He always seems to be where the action is, no matter where it actually is. And Am is on another level.....like, always at the right spot at the right time doing the right thing. Nothing short of miraculous. Unless he's a Jedi or something. Ôo That Kolisi-Am-Arendse and/or Mapimpi combo really works well for the Bokke. Now we need to convince everyone how good and important Le Roux actually is ^^".
I don’t really understand why people think Le Roux isn’t good. He’s literally the king of the assist. He’s a general on organising the back-line defence and a wizard in the counter-attack. Every young back-line player, regardless of position, should watch him play and learn. Ball’s always in two hands looking for the next play, head’s always on the right side when tackling and he’s always committing 100% to everything he does, whether it’s punching through a hole to distribute a try-enabling pass or chasing one of his terrifying up-and-unders. He’s an absolutely incredible ambassador for the game of rugby.
I have to say as a Saffa having a hard time arguing with my fellow countrymen, there is no better attacking man in this team than Le Roux my all time best and absolutely underated just look at the creation of tries he alway makes his team mates look good even made props look good in line breaks because of his passing
These are some of the issues Leroux has. He isaverage under the high ball even though that is his job. He can't beat any1 in world rugby 1 on 1. He makes atleast 3 mistakes a game. He kicks like a forward and he buckles under pressure. He has good organizational skills but he also does a whole lot of basic errors, such as passing too high or too low in critical moments and as a distributer that ismind blowing to me. These are just some of the few things he is poes shit at. Excuse my french. Btw he was the 2nd or 3rd pick for his franchise in the northern hemisphere.
Watching New Zealand play it was strange to watch a team low on confidence and seemingly with little understanding of a game plan try to play off instinct and commit so many unforced errors. As a Scotland fan it seemed to remind me of something but I can't quite put my finger on it....
To me highlights the fact they’ve played the Wallabies about a dozen times in 3 years and that’s the exact sort of shit that’s getting them a win by 30+
Getting very (very) hyped for the France / SA match this november. I do feel that France might have the best attack for unlocking that bok defence. Or get completely smothered. Either way works i guess.
I like how you compared the tactics of the Springboks and All Blacks to a list of 10 Components. It helps to put things into perspective and on what each team's strengths and weaknesses are. Maybe an idea for a future video (thus what these components are and how each team fares in these components)? 🤔 Would definitely be a great watch 🤩
As good as South Africa was, I am glad you mentioned that they have room to improve. On a couple other rugby channels, the comments were that either Ireland or France are now the measuring stick. Not so. What makes me nervous about the second test is to never write the ABs off. Both the ABs and the Bokke will be the measuring stick for some time to come.
@@sakabula2357 it’s past desperation now you can just tell from the general feel Please god please have either Razor Schmidt or even Leon MacDonald take over from Fozzie
Soooooo awesome to see you get the footage you need for this year's Rugby Championship videos! Was wondering if SANSAR was going to block you again. So happy they came to their senses! Great video as always!!!!
It's just so stupid that they did that. This is free advertising and makes rugby exciting and informative for those that don't know much about the game.
@@erwin8335 Their large companies so they just followed orders. Last year their was a small social media appeal from fans to allow the footage. Maybe that brought it to their attention.
By far my favourite show. Really enjoy watching how you analyse a game. The sad fact is that the Kiwis lack structure. Their skill set isn't gone..it's just almost impossible to show it if you don't have any structure to play of. As a proud Bok supporter it is great to see our depth in our squad. Yes we lost our second game to the Welsh but it just showed how al the players understand the environment and plan of their coaches.
Cracking breakdown as always you pointing out the weird small things that players like AM does, makes me think more about the game myself. Both as a spectator and player. Thank you for that
I love the content from Squide but holy f**k it was funny to watch this video THEN watch the 2nd Test. Can't wait to see the next video of him eating humble pie.
As a South African, I am happy for the win, but honestly Beauden Barrett is an amazing player and so can the rest of the All Black team be. They just need a better leader(coach) and they will get back to the AB team we know and love to play against. Hope they can find their form again. As for the boks we have some talented players, but still see a lot to improve honestly. Also would love to see more running from the boks and some hard skillful passing to the wingers and less boks kicks from the scrum half.
Are you actually South African? That's not something the majority South African fans say.. Well said though, South Africa has some deadly players in their backline, which aren't used to their potential.
@@subhuman119 the two top team in SA that stood out this year were the Stormers (full of potential and current Boks) and the Bulls (mostly nobodies), the latter which played the same rugby as the French of years ago: run, line break, offload, offload, offload. Hard to stop and that made the Bulls reach the finals of the URC. If the Boks can emulate that they will truly be unstoppable, in Ireland and in France.
Great video - I wondered how you'd summarise the feeling from this game, but you got it spot on. Relatively unremarkable score, but the AB's got absolutely pounded. The stat about the most ground made from a set play - chef's kiss!
I haven't even watched the video yet, I already know its gonna be a banger! Thank you for these rugby analysis videos, they are so rare and top-class we all appreciate what you do Squidge! 🙌
Everybody knows what the Springboks are going to do. Like Mike Tyson said: "Everyone has a plan to beat Mike Tyson... until they get beaten in the face" 😂😂😂
The sixes and sevens bit had me in stitches. "How low can you go?" should definitely be the new chant for our inevitable next losses this year. Come on New Zealand, sing it with me! In our proudly Kiwi twang even.
I bet its going to be hard for you to do a positive video on the ABs win. But make sure you capture how they smashed, dominated, caned, thrashed the supposed might Springboks forward pack. Enjoy that humble pie
Spot on like always. As a bok supporter, I would like for us to be humble and do the talking on the field. And don't ever underestimate the All Blacks! Cause if the All Black do fire it up now Saturday, and we play like we played the last game ,I don't think we'll make it. We played good, not great. The score should have been 57/0. I don't think we'll ever have another chance like the last game to do it. The Kiwi's is pissed and hurting so ja this is the big game.
No, we should go in for the kill. The ABs are weaker than they've ever been. It's time to tweak that knife. We must show no mercy and stop respecting them so damn much on the field.
@@Laurentus would do is a favour by ridding us of our very own version of Coetzee (foster) Then maybe we can trade him in for our own version of Rassie (razor)
@@lemonorangegrape999 For all our sakes, I hope we return the 57-0 favour this weekend, then. A bit of humiliation is just what proud rugby nations like SA and NZ need sometimes. In all seriousness, may we soon see the resurgence of the ABs.
Your commentry is even more entertaining than the game. I'd watch your clips just for that. BUT, for a pint sized Welshman, you are probably the most astute analyst of the game I've ever come across. You should be a coach. (How do you like the colour black with silver trimming?)
I want nothing more than to sit and have a drink with this bloke and pick his brain to absolute bits. How he’s not doing television analysis yet is beyond me… sensational knowledge on display and a genuinely funny guy. 10/10 combo
100% DeAllende does crash and defense well, but so does Williamse!! DeAllende does distribution shitly, but Williamse does it well! This would be a potent attacking combo, but we don't to seem to have backs + forwards interaction like Ireland does, and just getting it into the backs is not good enough in modern rugby.
@@SeventyTons What you mean no backs/forwards intereaction? We had it plenty, but alas, as you say, De Allende, the one broken cog in what should be a magnificent machine bringing it all crashing down. Be careful of narrow, tunnel vision like for like comparisons, can oft miss the reality.
I might be mistaken but Willemse was in that position in the URC for the Stormers a few times and was stingy with the ball, but he can make line breaks, thats definite!
@@pieterstander2290 As a Bulls supporter, it certainly didn't feel that way from the losing side and going to watch his performances over the season since. Willemse really has me eating humble pie. Really has managed to turn his game around with that stint overseas.
A great big thank you for taking the time out to analyze a proud springbok performance when it seems that most in the world focus more on the AB implosion. In a country often so vulnerable to inferiority, to have a master analyst break down how brilliant this team has been for the past few years (when world rugby has violently ignored it) means a lot to the zeitgeist and spirit of this great country.
Cheers for the Boks! They crushed (literally!!!) the All Blacks. Do you think my Pumas has chances against de Wallabies this weekend?? Hugs from Brazil!
You have a great team bud. I think they will come out with commitment this weekend. Aus with a few injuries. Your country may just be celebrating a win. We Saffas always back the Pumas. Love the passion for rugby.
Genius analysis, yet again. What a one man show. Give this man a professional soundproof studio so I don't have to listen to his bellowing roommate in the background. Love you squidgy
I'm a big Le Roux supporter and we seriously need his ability to open up space, you could see after Pollard passes the next receiver isn't sure on how to unlock the defence and create tries.
Yeah, De Allende is a void on attack. So many bad decisions, reckon he cost the time at least 2 tries tbh, which really sucks, as been a big fan of his. He just doesnt seem the same from 2019.
I did keep an eye on Am after your video on him. I guess I hadn’t payed much attention to him, but shit he showed so real class in test 1. And siya has got a work right like no other, ardie is similar in effort but siya had a better game
How do so many people get "paid" wrong? Have they never read it in a passage of text before? It must be the most incorrectly spelt word on the internet. Truly...
I thought you would mention that Willemse tackle. Yes they scored in the next move but the heart and commitment it took Willemse to get there and make that tackle was immense. Never give up, do things right and you will get rewards. @SQUIDGE Thank you yet again for your brilliance. God Bless.
Looks like the Springboks listened to your analysis and got smashed for it. Kudos to you for making an 18 minute long meme but there were many positives from the ABs last week that matured today. Please don't let your standards slip for the sake of clicks
It was the pass behind from the ABs that I didn't understand. It seemed to be a new plan sketched out on the Mac but not properly coached on the field. Got them constantly into trouble.
With their tight 5 always on the receiving end of a bullying, the pass behind is the only way a team can create the illusion that they are on the front foot and moving forward. And New Zealand's tight 5 has been on the receiving end of a bullying from almost everyone they have played in the last year or so.
@@Karma-qt4ji I heard the repeated use of the word bullying in The Breakdown from Mills as well. "Bullies need to be bullied. South Africans are bullies." Do you guys actually know the definition of the word?Look it up. That is so insulting to refer to your opponents in that way when you simply got beaten by a better team. And in that context make NZ in fact the victims. What bs! You got outmuscled not bullied. It is so unsporting to use that term.
@@lzb1363 Just in case you are unaware, "bully" is a fairly common idiom in sports when referring to a team that was physically dominant compared to their opponents. It's not referring to the Boks' character in any negative way. It actually means exactly what you said, that they outmuscled the ABs and imposed their will on the game.
Dude, Ian Foster needed this on Sunday....Really knocked the Squarespace part out of the park again BTW. I don't know how you keep getting better at that.
@@connornewcombe4319 "UuUuUh He'S gOiNg FoR tHe BaLl". Duh. The famous "going for the ball" law of rugby which clears you from all sanctions in the book. How could I even forget this :')
Excellent analysis, as always! I'm so happy that you're pointing out Beaudy's value. The way he stopped that 50-22 and pulled a Houdini from his own dead zone was just immense! Everybody else wants to see him dropped, but he's literally the only player in that backline trying to create something. As a Springbok fan I don't feel comfortable with the "favourites"tag and I feel one would be foolish to underestimate the All Blacks, BUT the Boks have a chance to demolish the All Blacks this weekend. If they bring the same work rate, accuracy and aggression it might turn out ugly for the ABs.
Yup, the Abs and Safas have a lot in common with being intolerant/fickle when it comes to sub-par performances. Don't know how you could say BB is sub-par in any way though.
Don’t be fooled about the loud noise coming from beaudens detractors, it’s mostly coming from crusader fans who want their favourite player Ritchie Mounga to be starting ahead of Barrett. It is a small minority of NZ rugby fans that want Barrett dropped, they’re just extremely loud and vocal about it. Beauden Barrett is world class and the true experts know how much value he brings to the team.
@@Karpetburnz Frankly, at this point, NZ would be better off dispensing with Rieko Ioane at 13, shift Havili out there, and run Mounga at 12. Rieko is a great player but makes terrible reads at center, and the All Blacks could desperately use another proper playmaker on the pitch with Barrett (as Squidge aptly demonstrated in this video).
Watching the product of hours of rugby squidge has spend analysing is my favourite drunk pastime. I am fully aware that I should wait till I’m sober to watch these, yet I can’t help myself
I'm proud of the bokke but I'm also sad that our biggest rivalry is performing like this, they'll be back though... they just need to figure things out
