That guy is Shane Filan, one of the member of Westlife. This was a special edition episode of him, during that every performer only Sing a track from him (or Westlife, yes Westlife also did You raise me up cover) and since he's an Irish, Sohyang put a little bit of celtic influence into the arrangement (she did most of the music and backing vocal arrangement for every of her performances, amazing right?) She is an insanely talented beautiful woman with a pure heart inside. A star rated singer, gospel girl, song writer, music arranger, vocal teacher, novelist, cancer survivor, etc. And she goes through all that without any desire of fame, money or other celeb-ish stuff. She don't even have a social media account. Not a single one. That's perfection. This world doesnt deserve her. Anyway, another great and honest reaction! Love it! I believe her influence came from the original version by Secret Garden which is Icelandic duo. Sohyang's version has very similar Celtic vibe to the original. Westlife's version is basically Josh Groban's with a some Celtic instruments
Glad that you managed to learn more about Sohyang on her back story. Sohyang has sung the original version for many years. She disclosed in the pre-performance interview that this performance is to tell her personal story (presumably about her religious faith). It was telling that your comment about her being vulnerable in the beginning part of the song. It's logical to speculate that Sohyang was singing about her personal struggle and sought the advice from her Creator. Also a quick comment about the use of flute, although I don't know Sohyang's motivation of introducing the flute, it is of interest to know that she performed this song on the Shane Filan Special, who is a member of Westlife, an Irish boy band. Westfile also made You Raise Me Up into a hit in Great Britain. The inclusion of the flute could well be an attribute to the Celtic music. Just my guess. Thanks for your reactions to Sohyang. This is one of her masterpieces, you've never heard it done like this before. :D By the way she had just got out of hospital after a bout of pneumonia here she wasn't even supposed to be singing. She has ongoing health issues. The original has some controversy over with claims by Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson and Westlife. Josh Groban made it popular- she signs a cover with him too. In the audience that is Shane from Westlife.
She sings to bring comfort and joy to people and to praise God.. That's pretty much it.. Youd be wise to keep her in your regular rotation.. You've only scratched the surface..

There is a good friend of Sohyang named Park Kiyoung. She does mixed notes up to F6 and sings flawless. Check up "Yeonan Pier" if you want. :) And Son Seung Yeon, Winner of the voice of Korea, wins multiple times on King of Masked singer and is a common guest on immortal songs. Please check up "I miss you" ,"Wanderer" (only korean in the title if you wonder) or "Is anyone there" (Hwasa did this song on KOMS too, it's amazing!) or her KOMS performances, she is so powerful! The more you hear of SoHyang, you will see she NEVER sings a song as written. She makes her own arrangements, which are always better than the originals. You should not stop already with her. You are just scratching the surface.
Someone said she was getting over Pneumonia, but she had it that evening. She was told before going on, not to speak, but with weak lungs, and a bad throat, she was still able to do what she just did.

You raise me up, as many people know, is the version of Josh Groban or Westlife, and these are popular songs all over the world, but it's not too much to say that Sohyang created the best masterpiece by mixing her vocal skills with her own emotions
Westlife covered the song after the original came out and they did it so famous and made them famous, they didn't want to do the song, because it sounded Christian, but they did it and the rest is history, Groban did it afterwards. Filan is a member of Westlife and he was there and she did the song, she was sick during her performance she had pneumonia. She sings because she is happy she was saved, that is why she said not because she is coping.
