Love everything about this video ❤ I took Ryan's songwriting class 2 years back, wrote my best song yet, it's gotten 200k on Spotify, quit my job to focus on music full time and I'm still going. I'm scraping by, literally no idea how I'm going to pay rent, but I'm doing what I love doing and praying it works out. Would love for him to hear that song! (it's called "Seven Kisses")
Amazing! So happy you enjoyed it, Sean! I took Ryan’s class several years back too. My favorite class on the whole monthly (now studio) platform. He really did a great job and I made one of my fav songs during the class as well. Wish you the best man! Will check out the song too!! 🔥 💯
@@DanielsWall I really loved that class too - I don't know if I just lucked out, but my group were super supportive. I'm still in touch with some of my classmates and wrote songs with two of them already. Which song was your fav from the class? I'll go have a listen! Also loved your vid with Julia Michaels - great work! 😊
As someone who is a behind the scenes creative himself, these videos add an insane amount of value. Please continue to post these interviews. The knowledge that these people drop is priceless.
Lot of insight and gold here. thank you very much! Ryan is 100% right here, when he says the streams don't mean much. Because writers were never at the bargaining table between spotify and record companies. As a writer myself, I've had a handful of songs that have 8 digit streams. The sad thing is, 1 million views on youtube equate to about $63.85 USD in royalties directly to me as the composer. 1 million views is not a small number, but the idea that the royalties would barely cover a celebrating dinner with my other half is sad. Where the royalties are at, are radio, TV, and performance (especially at concerts). I've also felt that writing has become much more difficult in the last few years, with tiktok and reels, songs become more about marketing sensations than music melodies/stories. Hearing how even Ryan Tedder is needing to write 5x more songs to get only part as much success he got 5-10 years ago, lets me know, I'm not alone.
Incredible interview, one of the best I've seen. You actually let the artist talk and finish answering the question. The questions you ask are great too and I'd love to see more of these
This is awesome. Love Ryan. That comment about there being no age limit kind of just gave me some comfort. 29 with 2 kids, gave up for a while, now I want to pursue again. Takes some of the pressure off mentally. Thanks for these interviews keep on doing it man!!!
Thank you CJ! So happy these interviews are connecting and inspiring you! Completely agree about the age piece - amazing to hear that even though it’s more “difficult” to have success now, it’s amazing that as long as you keep going, you’ll be closer to the goal than you were before
Ryan Tedder is one of my favourite songwriters and I love onerepublic’s music edit: I’m glad he admitted that he was super embarrassed to tell anybody because that’s the same way I am as a musician with singing😂
I enjoyed every second of this video 😍 I loved the part that Ryan said about age, funny thing is that I was only 26 and my friend told me that your time is ticking and your golden age is gone now! When your 30 no one wants to listen to you and you have to get married and raise kids instead! So, Thank you for making videos like this 💖
Thank you so much Delara- I just hit 26 myself so his advice and thoughts on this is a great driver to understand that you should never stop if it’s something you 100% want to do 🎊

Man this is awesome. Honestly feel like we are sitting on the couch hanging. Keep this vibe/format/whatever !been watching you since you began - I am the same brother and enjoy how you take the extra effort in your comparisons and weave in some story and context. All the little tweaks here and there all create big differences. Knowing what really goes on is awesome and being able to have conversations that are real just, normal. Is great. U know A TON and it’s really how you gained another subscriber! U know your stuff my friend!!
Amazing Interview! One of the best I have ever seen. The questions were so perfect, unique and I didn't get the impression that he had answered it a thousand times before. Also I love that it feels like a "real" conversation from two people with the same passion. Ryan Tedder is my favorite Songwriter ever and this interview just confirmed my decision! Thanks so much Daniel!
Love Ryan, and love OneRepublic. Seen them a couple times in concert, and its always a good time. His voice is amazing, he's an underrated talent (and the entire band is IMO) and honestly their music is just fun and energetic. Great interview.
Hi Daniel, i don’t know if you’ll be able to read this message but I just wanna throw a huge shoutout for doing such an incredible job. You are actually paving the way to all aspiring creatives and music-enthusiast that it is possible to meet and sit down with great artists, producers, songwriters and talented performers, then unveil their inspiring stories towards success, hurdles and rising back again. I have learned so much from Ryan and to you as well. Ryan Tedder is one of the most talented human beings in the world whom I really looked up to. Very passionate to his craft and inspirational. Thank you for this interview! Respect! 🎉
Fantastic interview. Rhyan always has so much wisdom. Some things he says that completely completely freaked me out and other things that totally inspire me.
@DanielsWall Thank you so much for this interview! Ryan Tedder and the music of OneRepublic has changed me as a person. It's hard to explain it but an over abundance of emotion runs through my body and soul when I listen. Embarrassing but I can't help it when the tears pour out. Love doesn't even begin to describe it, but something similar lol I love your interviews so keep them coming! I love your story, it is proof that dreams really do come true in this Wild Life we all live ❤ Oh @SeanFraye my favorite is "Better on You"!! So f'n great!! New follower here too 💖
I love this podcast. My biggest inspirations since starting to sing and write songs in 2017 have been Ed Sheeran, Ryan Tedder, and Dave from glass animals. It’s so cool to hear from Ryan about his journey!
This was a legitimately enjoyable interview with great questions. I didn't find out Ryan wrote Bleeding Love and Halo, etc., until I saw his performance at Pinkpop.
Awesome video. I took Ryan's class about two years back, learned a lot. I am yet to publish a song (personal reasons), but I am confident that he gave me enough tools to do so!
Loved his class too - took it several years back and learned a ton - best class on the platform (imo). Link your song on this comment thread when you release it, event if it’s in a few years 😊 I’ll check it out
Ryan is super inspiring! Every time I hear a one republic song the lyrics resonate with me so deeply that I want to find out more about their journey. I’ve been searching for an interview to watch and finally here it is! Thank you for sharing ❤
Great interview! I've been a fan of Ryan & OneRepublic for years. Great writer, singer, awesome band & all around great people. I wish them all the success in the world! Congrats to you as well Daniel! I'm glad to see the success you've accomplished with all your hard work! Keep it up & keep shooting for the moon kiddo! You're doing awesome!! Best of luck in the future as well! ✌✊💪👍😊
I watched a bunch of Ryan Tedder stuff before and felt like I knew he was responsible for a lot of big hits but when he went from the beginning of time I was surprised to learn even more classics were his. Super surprised
Amazing interview. Ryan is an amazing composer, producer and vocalist and he has created incredible songs for OneRepublic and a lot of artists 🫶🏼✨ Of course his sound has been a big influence on us at the moment of starting music
Ryan, you are an inspiration, I knew you'd be a star the first time I heard you sing. Your drive to succeed and to be the best at your craft is amazing and I applaud you. Thanks for sharing about ageism being gone in the musical landscape, that gives me hope yet!
❤ Get well Ryan, sending Prayers, love and hugs too you. And thank you for letting your band's members talked, and introduce themselves too us. Since you down they need the experience. Right, Right. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great interview!! Always knew Ryan was going to be successful. Went to One Republic concert in 2017 in Camden, NJ over the bridge from Philadelphia and I was so impressed that I will never forget. I am so grateful that I got to see this interview and to have Ryan open up about his challenges and how he got successful by perseverance and determination. 🌟❤️🙏
@@DanielsWallello daniel i'm a songwriter and i adore ryan tedder,i know he wants to work with other songwriters and i know he will love to work with me,i inspierd by him so much i have two songs that i made becouse of him or becouse of his songs,i wrote my sucide song "it's too late" after hearing appolagize and my song "angel" inspired by his song "halo", i wish i could meet him and play to him my songs he will love it for sure❤ Hoping you could help me somehow,i'll be the happiest ever, thank you
"Don't be afraid to try stuff" I've been doing this for 10+ years wondering what if/if nots and now I have a song with Disney legend Drew Seeley! So even though I still haven't made it, I'm definitely one step closer. So to those at the start of the journey, don't stop!!
Great video with some amazing trade secrets. I love how he broke down the difference between music now and music then. I hope all the smash hits he wrote that are rejected now come out someday!!!
Thank you Naomi! I think that’s the beauty of Ryan’s story - most people know the hits but don’t know how many songs get rejected as a songwriter. Sometimes though, a song that gets rejected just hasn’t found the right home yet 😊
I won a competition to meet One Republic in 2017… as a casual listener, on the way to the concert, I looked up the band as I wanted to have something decent beyond “I love your music!” to say to them. I got so starstruck after reading up about Ryan Tedder and his credits that I completely froze when I got to see them. Waved my hand awkwardly, said hi, and then posed for a photo. Didn’t even say hi to anyone specifically, don’t think I even looked anyone in the eye. Worst. Meeting. Ever. And it’s all on me - they were lovely with the other people in the group lol. But that’s probably one moment in life I’d love a redo of lol.
People know about a Timbaland partnership with Missy, Timberlake, and Jay Z, but I don’t think people know about the other musicians in his camp like Keri Hilson, Danja, one public.
