Honestly, this game is brilliant. If you watch Everglows guide on how to properly build a deck, and you keep a physical guide for it handy, the game becomes a breeze and shows it's hidden "fun" side. The problem with the game is that it doesn't explain itself well, as Strike, Thrust and Finisher attacks correspond better to different card types. If you just take the time to understand what cards work for which attack and you build your deck accordingly, you will find something really special under the hood. The story is great, and honestly, the final boss of Marluxia is one of my favorites in the series. Look at this game through a new lens, and you'll realize it's one of the "better" games of the series.

With 358/2 Days, you typically really have to pick out which Gear and magic to bring along before each individual mission (at least in early- through to mid-game; starting from late-game there's a few catch-all Gear to be found or synthesized and equipped). Then from there it's basically just a question of making the most efficient use of your magic, knowing when it's safe to attack, and knowing how many attacks you have time for before you need to duck out and wait again. I personally almost never use items, but bringing at least a couple items along even if you're probably not gonna use them is still good practice. On one hand that system provides every enemy with clear-cut weaknesses; but on the other hand the enemies usually have extremely high damage output on all but their least telegraphed and most unpredictable attacks which can easily feel unfair if you haven't figured out how to avoid taking damage from an attack yet. Having the Gear decide the combos instead of having dynamically adaptable combos can also make the game feel rigid at times. The length of enemies' open periods (especially most bosses) can sometimes make the game feel slower-paced than other KH titles to boot. In general, you want Gears that have short, sweet, and accurate combos with high Crit %; as well as Aero, Fire, Blizzara, and one other magic depending on the mission (or Cure or Cura if you're particularly bad at avoiding damage in a mission). However, Lift Gear in particular is useful for crossing a gap that you're probably not supposed to able to cross yet in Agrabah at an earlier point in the game exactly because of it's lengthy aerial combo; allowing early access to a couple treasure chests that contain items that are really good for the point in the game that Lift Gear enables access to them at. Lift Gear also executes it's aerial combo fairly quickly, usually allowing at least one or two full combos against most enemies during their open periods. I don't recall what it's Crit % is, though; nor if it gets a decent boost from Sight Units (which aside from maybe Ability Units should preferably be the only Units that you ever install in Gears; unless the Power or Magic Units give at least +3 to their respective stats on the Gear while a Sight Unit on the same Gear would only give +1 to Crit %). Whether these are good or bad points depends largely on opinion; but personally I enjoyed 358/2 Days. Zip Slashers and the Dustflier are actually my favorite enemies in the KH series thus far; and there's no enemy in the game that I haven't found a viable proper strategy for. In fact, just from killing the Mission 41 Zip Slasher over and over again in Mission Mode with various characters with various Gear usually while taking very few to no hits from it I ended up with no shortage of Elixir Recipes xD
@kevintyson1947
@kevintyson1947 7 лет назад
RadiantDarkBlaze yeah I hated being so limited in magic and the gears themselves felt limited Cuz no matter what gear I used (or level I was on) my damage output was so small that it takes me a long time to defeat bosses. ESPECIALLY Ruler of the sky's and the coffin heartless in Halloween town which brings me to my next gripe. Horrible boss designs.

Because you cannot lizard brain through it. You can get away with not paying attention in most other KH games, but in chain of memories its a requirement to pay attention at all times to what you're doing. If you try just to brute force it you just lose and the majority of people hate that.

@xdfeverdream8122
@xdfeverdream8122 4 года назад
@@ajddavid452 Not necessarily. A majority of people play video games so they can turn their brain off and they don't have to worry. I enjoy the brain exercise that is putting the effort in to break chain of memories and have fun with it, but I can also understand my brain just isn't hooked up the same way as most people. Believe me when I say I cannot fathom being mindless for extended periods of time as being a relief, but I know that just works for the majority of people for some reason. Its a lot more likely that people don't like those games because they don't help them de-stress. I'd chalk up to that before stupidity for most of the detractors.
@xdfeverdream8122
@xdfeverdream8122 4 года назад
Also Dark Souls definitely isn't hard. Its just methodical. Its a lot slower than the frantic pace of the retro games people compare it to. Everything in the game has a wind up to it for both the player and the enemies.

Donovan The only way I would possibly like Days more than CoM is the story. The gameplay on the other hand is so sluggish it feels like Roxas is running through water, and the magic system is the absolute worst, limiting you to equipping individual spells and ethers, but once you run out of those, it's gone, and you can't get any magic back for that mission. At least in CoM, all you had to do was reload your deck for all your cards to come back.

Here's my two cents on the entire KH series: *Kingdom Hearts 1* This game was like _Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy_ it's bright, it's colorful, and it's a wonderful intro to the series. However, like TPL, this game didn't really age well. *Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories/Re:COM* This game was jarring in it's gameplay choices; we go from button mashing to...actual strategy, what?! Plus, the story was VERY good. (BTW, Cynical: I know it looks like 'Slate' and I said it that way for the longest time too...but I felt like a dumbass when I found out it was pronounced: 'Slight'...like where we get the phrase _Sleight of Hand_) *Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days* ...Well, every franchise has at least one black sheep *Kingdom Hearts 2* Going back to my _Jak and Daxter_ metaphor, similar to _Jak 2_ THIS GAME GOT DARK!! It could be colorful and inventive when it wanted to, but the radical tone shift is one of the main reasons we LOVE this game!! *Kingdom Hearts: Coded/Re:Coded* I never played either game...but I did watch the movie version for the PS3, and I ADORED the story of this title. I thought it was just very good. *Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep* Oh boy, and we thought KH2 was dark!! This game was fun mainly because of how broken it was; the command deck system was super fun and exploitable and the ability system was easy and fun to master. *Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance* This game frustrates me as equally as it intrigues me; the Dream Eater's were a neat mechanic, but I hate how much they fixed the ability system from BBS. But Flowmotion was UBER fun! Sora/Riku felt like superheroes: they could wall-climb like Spiderman, fly like Superman, and toss enemies around like...virtually, EVERY superhero. *Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage* I don't have a PS4 so I haven't played this yet...but from what I've seen, this game looks RAD!! *Kingdom Hearts χ* Haven't played the game...but the story was at least intriguing. Plus, the Master of Masters is just a hoot!

Did you mix up Re:Coded and 358/2 Days? Re:Coded is generally thought to have the worst story in the series, while 358/2 Days is regarded as having one of the best. I'm perfectly fine if you didn't make a typo, it's just a very, very unpopular opinion that Re:Coded is better than 358/2 Days in terms of story.

Well, Days's story did go off on a tangent and only really found its focus at the end. I've just never seen anyone with the opinion that Re:Coded's story was better than 358/2 Days's. If you have a DS or 3DS, I would highly recommend playing Re:Coded. It's really fun, and if you already love the story, you're going to love the game even more by experiencing the gameplay. They improve on so many aspects of the command deck and have a very unique way of leveling up, while still keeping the core gameplay similar to Birth by Sleep and KH1.

The first of my two cents: KH1: You have to wait for openings to attack and actually dodge + block a bit if you don't want to get rekt. At least until you get Strike Raid + a steady supply of Elixirs or maybe even just Ethers; then maybe you get to mash triangle most of the time. The story is pretty simple yet elegant; Sora, Riku, and Kairi all want to see other worlds with each other, but their wish gets granted in a twisted manner. Sora has to make the journey without his friends, battling a darkness that wasn't part of his travel plans; Riku gets misled by that exact darkness, leading a rancorous jealousy to take root in his heart; and Kairi very nearly gets destroyed by the departure, only surviving thanks to the strength of Sora's heart and a burdensome role that destiny assigned to her. In the end, the trio all triumph over the darkness in their own ways with help from each other; but get separated as an exact result of their triumphs. ReCoM: This one is the button masher. Build your decks using each row of 3 as the layout for the sleights you want to use. Collect lots of cards early on, only ever boost CP when leveling up so that you can equip so many cards that losing them from sleight spam just simply doesn't matter. If using attack card sleights, layer your sleights at least once over so that you can go for a shorter second round of the sleight. Once your deck is built, start each battle by using the 1st equipped enemy card if any + mash triangle. The story is also the one that Sora overall experiences the most angst and anger over the course of thus far; possibly as a behind-the-scenes result of his recent separation from his friends after how hard he worked and fought to reunite with them, his sub-conscious doubt and worry about whether or not they'll still be safe, and his continued desire to reunite with them once again even though his real friends are currently nowhere near him. 358/2 Days: Easily my favorite in the series. Just use Gears with short, sweet, accurate combos with high Crit % and actually learn the enemies to start doling out a whole lot of rekkage. Yes, learning the enemies is an absolute requirement; Shadows will cover you in scratches thanks in part to their tendency to show up in groups of 3 or more until you learn them, which (I think) the majority of players do learn them pretty quickly. Plus I actually really like the story of Roxas, Axel, and Xion; although it contributes barely anything if anything to the overarching story it shows how the overarching story is affecting other characters. So, uh; every fanbase has one black sheep...? We probably both view the other as the black sheep at least on this one point xD KH2: This game was my introduction to the series after happening to hear "The Other Promise" while randomly listening to playlists of (epic/emotional) video game music; but in terms of story + gameplay I personally find it subpar compared to the rest of the series. It's basically about killing the remaining half of Org XIII while demonstrating that there's still darkness in the worlds, as well as the theme of "the power of friendship" that the whole series is focused around and built upon. There aren't really any particularly interesting plays made with the story, aside from the asspull used to restore Riku's original form without any hard work or hassle so that he could fight Xemnas alongside Sora in his original form. Without a whole paragraph just for details that are excessively simple in practice, the gameplay is basically all about staying on the offensive 24/6 and a bit of dodging and blocking on the off day. Please do ask if you want the details though.

Aaahhhhh, good. It's nice to see others giving Chain of Memories more time to properly get into it. Whether it's the GBA or Console versions, I always enjoyed the game. And, I like the "Fire Tornado" sleight, too. Between the handheld and console versions there are some differences in gamepley, as well as some things one version may have the other might not have, like one allowing you to hold more cards, some different storyline parts, sleights, etc. Regardless, CoM is one of my favorite KH games.

Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories is probably the game I've replayed the most in my entire life (Maybe behind Ape Escape 1). I have played through both Sora and Rikus story twice on the gba, once on the ps2, another time on the ps3, and I'm about to finish Sora's story again on the gba. Heck, I even have an unfinished file on the ps2 version that I want to finish. I love this game. I love the card system. It keeps you in the fight at all times. You cant turn your brain of and kill the things or they get the upper hand (pun completely intended). I love how you can go to most worlds in any order you want. Tip: go to Halloween town first to get the Oogie Boogie card so you can recover health if you're in a pinch. Helped me a lot when I wasn't doing well. I love how you can make a deck that is completely different and solely your own. And the sleights you can perform are great! And honestly, I like the gba version more than the ps2 version. I like being able to see the entire field so you know if your moves are gonna hit or not. Kinda makes it feel like a beat em up and I love that! Also, my favorite move is sonic blade and they nerfed it to death on the ps2 version. I know the environments may be boring and the battle isn't for everyone, but I am so happy that they made this strange little game! I'll keep playing it for the rest of my life!

Despite the rooms look repetitive, I can easily get by that for the simple fact that these "rooms" are just "repainted". Because you have to remember that you're in Castle Oblivion. I realized this because the only part of the castle that doesn't have memories is just white and I thought to myself, "hey... so if you never used a card for each floor, you would just keep going through white rooms the whole time. Playing re:coded also kinda shows this naked version of the castle. That you can interact with your memories but with their missing the room cosmetics.

For me the greatest boss slaying sleight was the Fatal Flame or Frame. A guaranteed stop on ALL enemies, even bosses, and a ton of damage to a single target

Chain of Memories was always my favorite before Birth by Sleep came out, primarily because of the gameplay, but also because the story is amazing. It was my first KH game, and I got it when it first came out, even before KH2 ever happened. I've beaten it by far more than I've beaten the others (8 times so far, over the course of playing it on GBA, PS2, and PS3, with a PS4 playthrough starting soon)

Times I played "Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories": 1. PS2. Combat confused me so much that I couldn't play the game. I got stuck on Olympus Coliseum and couldn't beat Cloud. Hated it. 2. PS2. I had beaten KHII by this point (I got into the series around 2008) and decided to give the game another shot. Was generally doing okay, but beat it by cheating. I only used 0 cards on bosses. Was... okay with it. 3. PS3. Was doing okay again, but got stuck on Ursula and gave up. Still just okay with it. 4. PS4. I was determined to get good. I did research on sleights, cards, everything. I came up with some good strategies for bosses (which take way too long to describe) and ended up becoming very good at it! Now I love it!

chain of memories' combat would have worked really well as a turn-based system, but I feel like the learning curve at the beginning of the game is just too high to make the game enjoyable for a lot of people due to the adding of card values, different card combos and breaking of enemy cards happening in real time, not really allowing you to get a feel for the comparatively complex system.

@TheMike0088 I agree if not turn based then let it play like the numbered titles. I've noticed Normura always to likes do something different when it comes to the in between games of KH.

It's his chance to experiment with different game mechanics. We'd probably never have gotten the Commands if we never had the Sleights, since they were basically proto-commands. I'm pretty happy he had the balls to experiment so wildly with the non-main line games.

having just beat the game on the switch, I have to say cracking the system and spamming sleights against bosses was definitely a peak action rpg, however the grind itself was a bit of a bore. like I hated getting the specific cards needed to progress, however I found myself having fun with map planning, as you could think ahead where you wanted your save points to be, how it was good to use a low level card in the middle map so all the doors in the room also had low requirements and every type of room had something to interact with

Whenever I recommend this game to people I always say to play it on Beginner. Even if you played KH1/2 on Proud/Critical, play this game on Beginner, because otherwise you'll hate it. That way you get the awesome story experience, and you don't have to worry too hard about deck building or grinding. Once you know the basics, then you can play it on a harder difficulty next time.

It's a good game people just think using the cards is hard or stupid but I like it too dude. I always built my decks with high level cards that can make slates and tossed in zeros between parts for counter, with a heal in there. On the game boy version I got up to lvl66 and I had fun grinding and the Riku perspective is great and I agree very laid back. I've always adored puzzles and maze kinda games so I liked opening up all the world's but I wish they had actual castle interior between the world's as well instead of just halls and stairs to the next door. It would be cool to see the inside of the Castle and the windows to it showed the darkness outside.

For me I don’t mind Re: CoM or the original CoM I’d have to say it’s a really good game that really makes you think which cards are good in order to prioritize the maximum damage output on enemies. Sleights as well they’re really good and from a lore perspective holy snap do those sleights run deep. But overall this game’s not so bad it’s pretty enjoyable.

ragging storm is in birth by sleep
@RadiantDarkBlaze
@RadiantDarkBlaze 7 лет назад
Raging Storm is trash in Birth by Sleep; it lasts too long for a Command that has no i-frames. Raging Storm is good in Re:CoM because the player will typically only use it against normal enemies, which due to the value of the sleight typically being higher than 9 normal enemies will typically never break it. Even then, Mega Flare is still better; although Raging Storm can at least use 3 different types of magic cards whereas Mega Flare forces 2 Fires for each use of the slight. Raging Storm may be more practical against bosses than Mega Flare in part due to this, as well as the higher potential hit count against only a single target.

I know a lot of people get annoyed and do not like re: Chain or Memories mainly for gameplay, but I never had a problem with it. I didn't mind the gameplay, I found it as a challenge and I wanted to beat it. Plus I got to play as Riku in the actual story (compared to mission mode in 358). The story of course was also good, mainly enjoying Riku's side (Cause he is my favorite). Though sometimes I did get frustrated, but that was with certain bosses, mainly Vexen (on Sora's side) and a little of Marluxia, but I still enjoyed playing it.

Honestly I like COM because I liked how different the gameplay mechanics are. If you look a bit deeper into the mechanics there is more depth on it. And I appreciated how we get to see more of Jimminy Cricket since we hardly see him get involved with Sora, Donald, & Goofy. Even though not many care about Jimminy, I was glad he had a better role in COM

I love this game, second only to KH1. I' even played it on the GBA, although not when it came out. It's one of the most strategic games in the series and it's just so different. Plus, the story is one of the best, next to KH1. The worlds are repetitive, no doubt about that, but the gameplay is just so good.

I'm enjoying it and I've never played this game before so I'm loving the story. I'm currently playing through rikus story and almost maxed sora level. I just found out I need to finish rikus story and watch the 358/2 to get all the cards. At first I didnt like the gameplay because the only way to block was breaking their cards and doesnt completely stop their attack at times. While some enemies have shields that blocks most of the early cards and breaks your sleights. Scrolling through cards to find certain cards during combat meaning your wasting time staring at yours and the enemies cards rather than the actual fight. I unlocked more sleights and spent every level up on cp every chance I got. I then built my decks on making them the most efficient I could get em for every encounter except for bosses because those fights needed the deck to adjust and strategize for each boss which I then started to like the gameplay. Some of these sleights are really cool. I've posted a few of my gameplay.

CoM is fun if you like deck building. I don't really like using sleights too much because they make the game too easy. My last play through I did a full HP and CP build on Proud. All cards are 5+ in value. 4 cures, 3 of them 9s and one 0. Item cards are a must. Then I trade out attack cards for ones with at least B attack. My 0s are all kingdom Keys because they cost the least. By the end of the game I had 5 or 6 of them. Put them all in the front, of course. 3 Clouds because I'm not THAT crazy. I might have had a few other spells in there, too. With this build it's more strategy than it is spamming Sonic Blade over and over, at least in those boss fights. With the lowest card being 5, you don't have to worry as much about card breaks. It takes a bit more grinding, but it makes it play a little more like other Kingdom Hearts games for those who really don't like the card mechanic.
