Hey everyone! If you want access to the full system, be sure to head over to the Patreon www.patreon.com/TheMythWeaversLoom! As this video only really shows off approximately 4 options out of...21 different spellbinds you can take when using this system. And there's still an untold amount to be added in the future! If you liked the video and want to see more of my content, consider liking the video & subscribing! Thank you for taking the time to watch~

Kinda unrelated to the system but in one of the games i was playing as a monk and had run out of ki points, and asked my DM if could use my "life force" as Ki by permantly burning one of Ki points for around 3 rounds of infinte Ki. My DM explained it as glowing tattoos all around my body and my hair standing up, honestly it was one of the best roleplaying moments of my dnd career so far

you sometimes see such things in murin manwha, using life force or core energy the character gains a large burst of power (usually putting them slightly above their current energy level at the time of consuming it, likely in the heat of battle) this usually hurts their future growth in some way though, for instance making it impossible for them to continue cultivating or perhaps turning them into a cripple, usually meaning they just lose all their internal energy and leaving their meridians (internal organs/blood vessel) a mess, it can sometimes be cured but the sacred treasures (herbs, pills, artifacts) are extremely hard to come by so most never recover

@@asdasasdas3476 Yes, apparently when he said "■ open" the "■" meant "Furnace" so he has to invoke the word furnace before using the Divine Flame, It seems that "Dismant, Cleave, and Furnace" are simply just part of Sukuna's technique "Shrine" (kinda like how Blue, Red, Violet, Infinity are just parts of "Limitless"). 1. Dismantle - he sends a slash at whatever direction he wishes. (Inside his domain, he can instead send a slash at any target instead of just direction.) 2. Cleave - Allows him to slash someone regardless of where they are or their defences are as long as he has touched them. (Inside his domain, he no longer needs to touch his target and will simply work similarly to Dismantle.) 3. Furnace: Divine Flame - Allows him to shoot a powerful arrow made of fire, but he can only do so in 1v1 situation. (Inside his domain it works differentlybut I wont explain since it might be a spoiler.)

I love how this system helps bridge the gap between optimisation and roleplay. If you make an optimised spell, you can think about who wiuld take those bindings; and if you know your character's personality, you van think about hiw that translates into combat. Any system that allows combat creativity through roleplay and gameplay is bount to succeed.

I think a cool binding vow would be only being able to use it on enemies of a certain faction or when you are under the sky (not in buildings or caves). Basically upgrades at the cost of not being able to use the spell unless a certain condition is met and once you set the condition it can’t be removed

I did the same with a spell. 3rd level called "Devil's Bargain" It's the same level as bestow curse. You draw up a contract and should one of you betray the contract the spell places a curse on you until you can make it right. If you want to use another spell as a curse you have to be able to cast the spell and use a spell slot of at least that level to cast Devil's bargain. Want to turn someone into a snake should he betray your party? add polymorph to the mix. Want to banish them to a maze? Maze. They get no saving throw they agreed to the terms. Only actions of themselves or their friends can get them out of the contract. The caster can decide to let the contract go or death of the holder can release the spell as well. It was very fun playing a bard with this spell. I made the flavor of a rune that would light up on the characters hands when they shake. It appears when they want to read it again or they are about to be in breach of contract. It was available to wizards, sorcerers, bards and warlocks.

Very cool concept, I'm playing a game right in a homebrew system that me and a couple friends being using for more them a decade and in the current campaign we can do something that in the role of this world is call "A Crimson pact" I'm a sorcerer/wizard that uses a sword and a wand, and mostly electric magic, I have something that most people would consider a very powerful and limiting factor, I can only use the spell once a month and when do by wand explodes, the more powerful the magic wand the stronger the magic it casts before it get destroyed. I call a thunder into the target and melt the person, it's a homebrew system with no defined level up, but you kind have a system where a normal person has 5 attribute points and the strongest person in the world would have like 100 since that is the cap I'm around 25 point, my average attack is like 1D8+12 damage this specific spell hits for 4D8+36 I have 35 health, and 9 damage reduction, meaning I would very likely be instant downed if someone had something like this. I'm in love with this concept, and most likely me and my friend group is going to start using that as a standard rule. Loved the video, to be honest the video has such a high quality that I was not expecting such a small channel. Would love to see more, but I'm not going to the patreon, but you have my like and my comment to help with the algorithm god

In my setting there's a god of deals and you're actually able to make deals with him in game. (For example, an npc made a deal so that they would give up their ability to cast 2nd level spells forever, in exchange for being able to cast glyph of warding once per day.) I might use this for that.
@CrimsonTear1996
@CrimsonTear1996 3 месяца назад
This seems cool but Im getting confused with some of these. With Flame Piercer you stated that you first changed it from area to single target, cool but if you’re removing the AoE from it shouldnt that already increase your damage? You also said doing that lowered the range from 150ft to 90ft again without a damage boost? You then stated you lowered the range a 2nd time finally giving you a damage boost. Just wondering why you had to nerf it twice, first time pretty significantly, without giving it any plus side? Why do you need to sacrifice so much for seemingly so little? I feel like I’m missing something.
@ZagreusWinters
@ZagreusWinters 3 месяца назад
In the initial draft I thought making the damage increase was slightly too much. Because fireball is a dex save with, half damage on success. However if you make it a spell attack, you’re getting the full damage each time it hits. There is no half damage, it’s just a straight 8d6 with no save or fail shenanigans involved. (Also 8d6 is already an incredible amount of damage.) So reducing range is rather inconsequential and low risk when the spell itself has such a high range. Opening up the possibility that more people take it for other reasons like what I list below~ Because this also means for high cr monsters, they can’t just use things like “Legendary Resistance” to automatically pass the check and reduce the damage of save-based spells dramatically. As using that spellbind makes it so, you fundamentally nullify legendary resistances for the spell as a whole. Since it’s now a flat out attack that’s all or nothing, a ranged spell attack can also benefit from advantage drastically raising your probability to hit! Which are some of the upsides of it all.
@CrimsonTear1996

@@ZagreusWinters I see I didn’t understand that you wouldnt need to even roll for a save from removing the AoE. Interesting

As someone who is slowly letting the ideas for a JJK TTRPG simmer in my head, I welcome any form of additional inspiration I can muster (biggest reason I started thinking about it was because of Binding Vows, it sounds insanely cool to have a legitimate talk with a player mid fight for an equivalent exchange or to have two players making their own vows between each other. That sounds like peak gameplay and storytelling to me (if you couldn't tell, I'm a Warlock main)
@ERBanmech
@ERBanmech 3 месяца назад
Honestly really cool! I may have to make some tweaks of my own to this, I usually like my mechanics tables to help ease the burden a bit but I love the concept. Personally I would make it that the player couldn’t cast the normal version of that spell unless they change what spell is bound. Also how fun that you’re making a post apocalyptic campaign too, hello from Frost Reach and the Ashfall region.

@plaguegoose596
@plaguegoose596 3 месяца назад
I have something similar in my games but its essentially just a method of letting players make their own spells basically: If you alter a spell it takes less time than making one, you can chanfe any effect to a similar one like changing the damage type or something at no cost but time, alternatively you can change its basic effects like range and damage but you must make up for it, for example adding range at the cost of damage or making a single target spell have an aoe at the cost of losing damage over time or a condition that it applied. Stuff like changing the flavor is free as well like making fireball not be a thrown ball of fire but instead pointing at an area you can see and fire rises from the ground. If you want to you can make a new spell but it has to be of equal or lower power to other spells of the same level. When you do any of this it takes time and resources (usually money) for a simple spell like a ball of fire or bolt of negative energy it takes typically 1 day to do, standard complexity spells like summoning an elemental or healing a wound its 3 days, and anything complex like immediately opening a lock or creating a convincing illusion is 5 days, then you modify that based on how much or little there is to the spell, like a standard complexity spell that is just a minor change to an existing spell might be a day or two rather than three. Then you pay the cost based on the spell level and complexity and may occasionally have to find some other resource to add (good for short personal mini adventures) like maybe needing to watch a dragon use its fire breath to understand how it works or needing to write the spell in your spellbook in vampiric blood or maybe find a long lost scroll describing how to add the effect you want to a spell. (Use that kinda thing for when the spell is of dubious balance or power level so they have to work for it)

I’m probably missing something something but shouldn’t turning fireball into a single target buff it somewhat instead of lowering the range? Single target spells usually deal more damage or have some additional rider. Again sorry if I’m missing something and this is a dumb question.
@ZagreusWinters
@ZagreusWinters 3 месяца назад
No questions are dumb! When it comes to the system, most aoe spells usually have a lot of damage as is, and you can buff it through other means. Turning a spell into a spell attack would have the benefits of being able to gain advantage in certain situations. Another benefit is that spells with a duration trigger instantly upon impact, allowing for a different style of usage! If your spell requires that you see a target, well. Now as a spell attack you can just shoot it in that person's general direction instead. The use-cases are fairly diverse~ Glad you enjoyed the video!

I feel like this shouldn't necessarily follow the track of Ability Score Improvements, but rather be gauged based on Proficiency+Spellcasting Modifier: I also feel like the idea could go a bit further in terms of the give and take, while also giving a player a lot of freedom in their creativity. For example: You can make a spell do the maximum amount of damage possible, but give yourself vulnerability to rhe damage that doell deals for the next minute. Or you can concentrate on two spells at once, but make each concentration save at Disadvantage. The enemy makes the save against this spell at disadvantage, but I have disadvantage on all saves for the mext minute. That sort of thing

So this is actually an interesting ruling. A cool idea I have to take advantage of the ruling will be shadow blade. You remove it consitration making it a spell that makes a weapon that deals 2d6 psychic damage that has finesse, light , thrown(20/60) properties. Remove having advantage in dim light or darkness to bring it back to 2d8. Have it remove the thrown property so you can add your dex or strength to its damage so it would be 2d8+dex or strength.

Like the 2e cavalier being immune to so much but never being able to uses ranged weapons. You could do this usually at character creation. I forgot the name of it but it was some kind of point system.

I suppose the point is to create a system of rules to guide a player to modify already existing spells. Think of it as a way to help the player make balanced alterations to their spells
@scetchmonkey007
@scetchmonkey007 3 месяца назад
@@jordansandoval7097 lets use your example of turning frost fingers cone to a cylinder. You are increasing the spells area and range at the cost of damage. However that is not actually balanced. If you applied the same concept to lightning bolt... making lightning ball you thus get a weaker version of fireball.. an 8d4 damage lightningball. What if we did it in reverse. lets half the size and range of fireball to get an 8d8 damage 10ft radius fireball. By your system that works... also not balanced. When you apply hard rules like this to modify spells you will get mechanically superior and inferior modifications. This concept is kinda cool if you want to tweak a spell on the fly in game. Connect it to a resource like sorcerer points and I'm all for this. but for creating new spells you need to compare them to all similar spells of the spells level as well as one level higher or lower than the spell to get something balanced. For example I know that 8d8 half size fireball is broken because blight a lv 4 spell exists is single target and deals 8d8 damage. making that 3rd level spell superior to blight in every way. Alot of these problems also comes from 5e spell designs its why a hard system like yours will never be balanced, because spell damage and scaling in 5E falls apart after 3rd level. Example. Delayed blast fireball a 7th level spell deals 12d6 damage, when metoer swarm a 9th level spell deals 40d6 damage. Where is the damage progression? instead it is literally +1d6 damage per level for area spells after 3rd level. upcast fireball to 7th level is 12d6... practically making delayed blast fireball obsolete. And then damage skyrockets past 7th. You cant compensate for such a weird progression in your damage system. Basically the more damage dice a spell has the better it is to reduce to increase damage on and the less it has the better it is to add an additional effect to reduce its damage

I play at this DM's table. They've made tons of spells. I don't think this was created out of spell scarcity, but to allow more customization or specialization. And anytime you're able to customize something (crocs included) you do have to get complicated in order to allow necessary breadth. I am spellbinding a spell the DM created! Current conversations around my table are -- would your character dedicate the time and energy to spellbind and, if they did, what would it be. He has also enhanced the fighter options too. This is all in service of fun.
