Wish they brought combo attacks back, kinda wild that that modern persona who makes the friendship between characters a main mechanic, doesnt let those character combine their moves
They're in golden and royal you just have way less control over when they happen and who they're between. p3p also sort of had them (the main character and one party member could occasionally attack together) so its not really a forgotten mechanic, it just isn't done in the same way anymore.
I also like joint negotiation where you could pair team memebers up in 2 or even 3. At first characters won't work together unless you talk to them at certain points in the game demonstratong how their relationship changes. I also really wish they let party memebers equip differnt persona, but everyone always argues wild card. You can still gave the player character fusing the persona for them, just let him distribute them through the party as a leader.
I'm glad you tackled these games. They'll always be personal to me because I was stationed in Japan in 1999. Specifically, I was living there on December 31st, 1999, which was my 21st birthday. The whole experience of Persona 2 is so evocative of the Y2K paranoia of the era. There were so many people that thought the world was actually going to end on that day, or that the airplanes were all going to fall out of the sky. Obviously none of that happened, and we all breathed a collective sigh of relief, but people today won't remember that. I wish we could get another game like this today. Great video, Ram! Good to have you back. Any clues on some upcoming videos?
I still remember my mom crying tears of relief when nothing happen on Y2K. Meanwhile I was in my goth phase (which wasn't really a phase) and hoping something would happen.
It’s those religious cultists mofos! They want the pain from the real world to go away. Instead of learning on how to deal with life’s problems they insist on praying to an invisible guy in the sky to grant their wishes. It’s kinda sad that these organizations is taking advantage of their vulnerabilities and giving them false hope instead of growing as a person and resolving their own problems with hard work and willpower. Otherwise interesting experience thanks for sharing.
@@lordmonarch2995 Eh, I think you can have both. I personally think my creator gave me everything I need to help myself, as well as the strength and knowledge to help others, and squandering those gifts are an affront to the one who made me. As such, I served 22 years in the military, was a police officer, a firefighter, and an EMT. Now I'm a full-time dad, and do everything I can to teach my kids that they can do so much with what their creator gave them, and I give them the skills they need to stand on their own. I'm not some kind of zealot, but rather choose to glorify my creator through my deeds, not through saying I'm great. I compost responsibly, grow my own fruits and vegetables, and plant a little herb garden at the curb for anyone to take from. I care for nature and help those in need. I understand hostility towards religion (I'm pretty hostile at my own currently), but I was made strong and capable to help others, and do it every day, regardless of what some old dude at a podium says.
I didn’t come here to challenge people’s beliefs, believe whatever it is you want I don’t care. If you wanna throw time and money away at a organization you’re at liberty to do so. I’m just expressing what I see and how I perceive it.
Random thing I noticed, but the text boxes are all broken in your footage. They aren’t supposed to be transparent like that. You can fix it if you mess around in the settings of PPSSPP. You don’t have to, but it might be useful if you plan to go back to the P2 duology. Changing the renderer to Vulkan or straight up updating your emulator to a new version will probably do the trick.
Doesn't that just give you the pokemon effect of seeing a trainer you have to battle to get around? I prefer this just because it's more expident and also the unsung hero that is the warning light that many of the early megaten games had to let you know you were about to enter a battle so it's not even that random.
@@benjaminallen6534 no. Pokémon trainers aren’t random encounters. You know (for the most part) when they’d be coming. It’s the whole wild pokemon thing that was random. And you never got warning signs. This person is saying they don’t want random encounters. You’re saying that there’s a warning light? Where? How do you avoid attacks?
@@BelBelle468 I meant visual encounter where you see the enemy are like pkmn trainers and fights you have to fight to progress. I did not consider the run option of running away though.
compared to smt if and persona 1 the dungeon crawling really isn't even bad. Also I feel like the encounter rate is kind of high because you really need to grind contacts for cards for summoning personas...Well, I say that, but innocent sin is easy enough you really never have to interact with velvet room mechanics. If you play eternal punishment though you will be expected to do so.
idk maybe i did something wrong but my experience with P1 was just shooting everything with guns, until you face a toilet that reflects bullets with 200% damage
@@user-lh5pf4ji3q I wasn't really commenting on combat, I'm commenting on dungeon design. I think a lot of innocent sin's dungeons aren't actually complicated to navigate but I think persona 1 has some areas that are intentionally somewhat obnoxious, and older smt games have a habit of being way worse than either of them.
No you dont need to play or enjoy the first 3 persona games(yes, three) to be a real fan You just need to acknowledge they exist, unlike atlus That is all goodnight
P2 is such a masterpiece that needs a remake so bad probably the best story Maya is arguably the most interesting and best character in the whole series just amazing
There are 2 personna 2 games. Innocent Sin os the first one, Eternal Punsohmnet os the 2nd and Eternal Punishment did come to North America for PS1... Which was wild because half the plot refers to the first game which hadn't come out over here at thst time. (But its fine because the maon character doesnt remember it either so it added s layer of depth and not understanding what's happening)
I am surprised as hell that you still didn't run out of Persona games to review. 90% of your content is this one franchise, and you only now get to Persona 2. Just speaks volumes about how much can be said about the Persona series from an intellectual perspective.
Can you make a video of you talking about the world ends with you? It can be the Switch version since it is the definitive version + the Exclusive Week the game gives to you. Thank you
Is no one gonna tell him the battle system has been butchered to the point where it doesn't remotely feel the same as EP's battle system, which funny enough, is still the same system for IS, except the PSP makes it appear as if it's a traditional battle system and not a dynamic system that has auto-battle in mind? Reminder that IS is a easy game difficulty-wise compared to EP, why did they have to make everything more easier in the PSP remaster. You CAN change party member actions in the PSP version, just that it's more tedious because you have to assign actions for EVERY character instead of character(s) you wanna change their action to. This message is brought to you by SnicketySlice's Ultimate Persona Compendium and Persona players at Reddit, thank you.
I never played a persona game really (tried 4 like 1 and a half hours and 3 portable like 3 hours but got bored) but damn the designs and ps1 graphics are so charming
Nah they’ll probably keep it. Too iconic and plot relevant. What they’ll be rid of is the name of the band tho. Alludes to main plot but is unnecessary and is ignorant
Hey RamZaes, I love your content, and always have. I question whether you’re quitting, as on both channels you haven’t uploaded in like 2 months, and your Twitter is also dead.
You joke about this being a prequel to the other Persona games... but I only play the 'Ramzaes Abridged' version of these games, so as far as I'm concerned this is the latest release in the series. Pretty good so far. Excited to see what they might make next.
@@BelBelle468I could watch every Ramzaes video twice before finishing a single persona game. Who's really using their time most properly here? Checkmate, checkers partner.
I don't understand why running down a hallway hitting enemies with a sword like it's an action game is so much better than random enounters. Heck it's not that random since you get warning light changing color to let you know your about to get in a fight. Also if you want to get in less fights then use conversation to just scare them off or form pacts with the enemies for more tarot/free cards.
Simple. Like Pokémon trainers, you can run away from encounters. And if you’re not vigilant, you can get snuck up on and have a disadvantage in an attack. Maybe the light thing is obvious but the game doesn’t really explain it and I’ve never heard of it before.
@@BelBelle468 I feel that the game doesn’t have to tell you because it’s not hard to understand. Green means you’re safe, yellow means you should be wary, and red means prepare for battle. It’s kind of like a traffic light or any other simple system that uses color
It's because random encounters feels like it's taking control away from the player. I think it's also more immersive to actually see the enemies on the map.
The lack of voiced dialogue was probably due to the PS1. Star Rail isn't anywhere near as long, still has non voiced dialogue and the voice packs are 4-5GB in size. To have all of the dubs installed, it's over 16GB just for voiced dialogue. Though, at the very least they could have made the text made sound as it played in a tone similar to their voice for this game.
