Something I have to point out. Gamma died in Adventure 1. The new robot you play as is named "E-123 Omega".

The manual to this game was awesome. Character bio was a treat to read. I'll never get over Eggman being a proclaimed feminist.

Personally have really fond memories of this one as it is the first proper Sonic game I played and I had a blast with it as a kid. It's definitely not the strongest game in the line-up in terms of smooth gameplay but it will always be a personal favourite of mine. Thanks for another great review Matty!

Sonic Heroes is a really nice game. That was my first game to play on GameCube. 100%'d it once. This game is aimed for newer fans who don't know about Sonic. Levels are designed well for each of the teams with different objectives. Controls are quite slippery when going too fast. Still a great title to relive! BTW, that robot you mentioned for Team Dark: that's E-123 Omega. Gamma died in Sonic Adventure 1. Anyways, great video!

Your videos have really proven what I have thought for years. There is a Sonic game for everyone, and it's never going to be what you expect. Sonic does so many things differently from other platformers. Whether it be story, or gameplay. Sonic Team is always trying something new. Because of that we have games like Sonic Heroes, The Story Book games, And Boost games. But it's also why some people love a certain style of game over the other and feel it's the best stye for Sonic. But, I'm truly happy the series is really grabbing you and you've come across your favorite Sonic Game. I can't wait to see more from you about the series.

Heroes was my first Sonic game and I don't think I could have appreciated the amount of content they packed into that game as a kid. it's not the best game in the series but if you like Sonic it's worth playing.

Thanks for making this video. This game is my favourite Sonic game and so is Shadow The Hedgehog. Maybe it's the nostalgic 2006 kid in me (when I first got my PS2 and started playing these games) but these two games really stans out to me. Sonic Adventure 2 too. To this day I wish they give these three games a remaster or make a Sonic game that hits just as good as these three. To this day no Sonic or Sonic based game after these three gives me the same feeling of euphoria. This game has its flaws, cheesy dialogue and questionable voice acting at times, it feels slippery as hell to play. But the game was so fun. The creativity with the levels, the different teams/characters and linking their stories. The dialogue is funny too. Vector calling Rouge a broad. It also introduced me to my fav character Espio :) I found out about the Knuckles and Chaotix stuff after playing this game. Love Chaotix. This game is underrated. I still play it to this day my PCXS2 emulator. :) Again, thanks for making this video. Hope you make a Shadow The Hedgehog video too.

Sonic Heroes is a GOOD template for the series in 3D give Sonic an arsenal of moves, present him with creative and vibrant environments reminiscent of his 2D days and give him the obstacles to face over c all with High Speed action. This is something I hope Frontiers can handle

Love this game to bits. Banger ost, great character interactions and some really fun gameplay once you know how to get around some of its' rougher parts. Chaining moves together as a speed character while quickly switching teammates here and there is so satisfying.

I'm enjoying these videos so much. Seeing someone who didn't like the franchise just say "fine, fuck it, I'll play your stupid Sonic game" and then realising they actually really dig it, is just one of the best things to see. I have a love/hate relationship with Heroes. It was one of my first Sonic games, and it was the first game I ever put over 24 hours into. But I've never gone back to fully beat it ever since, because I just don't enjoy how everybody controls in this game. I can only stomach so much of Heroes before I have to put it down. Personally, I don't really feel like the franchise peaks again, post SA2, until Unleashed. And Unleashed is more or less it's own self-contained story, albeit a really nice one with some fantastic presentation. Looking forward to your thoughts on Shadow. It's a really different vibe for a Sonic game, but its commitment to itself has aged pretty well, making it a worthwhile revisit from time to time.

Sonic and the Black Knight was the last hurrah for good Sonic storytelling, though a lot of players don't know that cause they get to the fake out final boss and think the game is just over, maybe cause the controls are kinda jank but definitely playable unlike Secret Rings.

I was so worried when I saw this! But I am glad to hear you enjoyed Heroes! A lot of childhood memories in this one for me, not as good as the Adventure games imo, but easily one of my favorites. And while it's light on story, what's there is pretty good (team battles aside) *especially* Dark and Chaotix and it really shines with the pre-level interactions I think you'll be... interested in the story of Shadow the Hedgehog, though the game itself can be a bit much. 10 total playthroughs, just so you're prepared. And the paths are all non-canon, with the exception of the final story. As for other Sonic games with great stories, the final story in Shadow is decent, but the real contenders (in terms of mainline games) are Unleashed, Black Knight and to a lesser extent Secret Rings. Also, now that you have more of an appreciation for Shadow and his arc, I'd recommend looking at his story in 06 again. It's genuinely his best portrayal across all the games (except maybe Adventure 2) 06's story in general is actually really good.... outside of Sonic's which is the bulk of it... Sonic just has very little to do with the plot and Elise is a nothing character and romance doesn't fit at all. (I made a comment on your 06 video discussing this further) Shadow and Silver both highlight the great side of the overarching story 06 is going for though. Shadow's story especially being fantastic I'm glad to hear you've had good impressions of the community! I think the level of tribalism and sheer number of different opinions from people who like different aspects of the series have sort of tempered the fanbase into generally being more accepting of different opinions on the games in the franchise Some people can be toxic, but it's a mostly unearned reputation from what I can see, and I'm glad that those few members aren't giving you too much trouble! Looking forward to the next video!

Hoping you find something to like in Shadow the Hedgehog whenever you get to play it. I know it isn't a brilliant game, but I still really love certain aspects of it and wish it would get a remaster/remake/sequel (it helps that Shadow is my favourite character in the franchise).

For the slippery stuff, stop touching the stick For the slippery attacks don't use the stick and knuckles doesn't move. You have to move to go all over the place I'm not gonna list anything more cause the major problem of this game is its counterintuitivity, but everything that feels bad has a solution and the solution is great but counterintuitive

Sonic Heroes was the first true Sonic game I ever owned. Got it in 2010 for the PS2. I was 7, turning 8 that year. I have so much nostalgia and so many fond memories of this game. Unfortunately, my disc doesn't function properly anymore (probably because I played it so much). I'm gonna replace it soon, but I still keep that broken disc and it's busted up case for the memories of a simpler time.

You gotta try Sonic Riders. The pinnacle of Sonic racing games. If Sonic Riders got a remake, team chaotix would be a great addition.

I love the game for the same reasons you do. Very fun and challenging in an almost strategic way, and the soundtrack is killer. Plus I just love how aesthetically happy the game is, it makes me smile. Happy you gave this game a shot, and I'm even happier that you enjoyed it!

Not having a 3D collection kills me…I was a teenager by the time this came, I grew up with Sonic and I recall playing this..but once at 14. I’ve been able to replay SA1/2 countless times as an adult, even introducing my son to them. But this one just..exists on hardware 3 generations ago. I’d rather a 3D collection than owning Sonic Genises collection again. I never cared for this one, but again at 14, I wanted to play Tony Hawk underground or San Andreas or Okami. As a lifelong fan I wish I could give this one another go

I was so much of a Shadow fan boy as a kid, I sanded my shoes so that they didn't have any grip as a kid. During P.E. they were so slippery that I could pretend to skate like shadow. ...God I was cool.

Cream was created for Heroes, but actually appeared in Advance 2 first due to it releasing first, I think its a real shame we never saw more of her as an actual playable character outside of this and 2 Advance games (and Battle), shes a perfect beginner character, tails' mobility with a ranged attack.

Heroes was a game made for a new generation of fans. Much in the same way the 2003 TMNT series was for tv. As known this was the first multiple platform Sonic game. It is flawed but I wouldn’t change anything about it

All they had to do was say Shadow faked his death because he couldn't face how he almost destroyed the planet. The clone thing is really dumb. Quite honestly, his death SA 2 was entirely unnecessary because Sonic clearly had the power to save himself. Why not Shadow?

Team Dark has Omega Gamma doesn't appear in this game, Omega was first introduced to Sonic Heroes and has been in a lot of Sonic games since, like Sonic Team Racing, a slight cameo in Forces, Dark Brotherhood, Sonic 06 I really like Omega he's a great member to Shadow's Team in fact I'd say Shadow, Rouge and Omega in general makes a great team, but yeah Shadow's story is totally the best part of this game

There are a few more rhat I have played, but of those, only one of them is one that I want to see you reflect on after experiencing. And that *Sonic Generations.* (I know you are a fan of playing games on the original hardware, but I'd seriously suggest that you play Sonic Generations on the Xbox Series X if you can. (I don't remember if you have one or not.) The 60fps making the gameplay buttery smooth is something you will greatly appreciate, I think.

Sonic Heroes is definitely one of best Sonic games and it's my favorite of them all. The Xbox and GameCube versions of Sonic Heroes are the best versions. The PS2 and PC versions are not so great. The PS2 version is the worst version, and sadly, more people bought the PS2 version. One mistake Sega made was not building Sonic Heroes from the PS2 ground up, as the PS2's hardware was weaker compared to the other systems. As for the PC version, Sega could have done a bit more better job with the PC port.

I was one of the testers on Sonic Heroes (mostly the GameCube version but I helped out on the PS2 and Xbox versions). Main part of my testing was the haunted house levels.

In certain, superior circles, this game is better known as Sonic ZEROES - as in ZERO FUN, ZERO QUALITY, ZERO INTEREST. The soundtrack was cool though🤣

I love Sonic Heroes, It was my first Sonic game I ever played, played it on the Gamecube. It has it's bugs and other issues, (special Stages for me) but this game was so much fun. The Egg Fleet was easily my favorite level of the game especially at the start of the level where you can jump from Air ship to Air ship. As a kid I felt so cool doing this. Rail Canyon had it's issues with rail switching, but Jumping from a rail that was high up onto the lower sections of rails always had me a scared. I didn't know if I was going to hit the rail, or completely miss. The Egg Emperor might be my favorite boss in any sonic game. Had some great memories playing this I truly hope Sega can give us a remaster of this game, or even a remake.

I've been got Sonic Heroes back in the year 2000's sure I was a little scared of it but an old friend of mine since middle school and high school had this game too he beating Team Rose for me so I stood up and beat the whole thing when I was a teenager and I enjoy Sonic Heroes ever since

Cool to see an old classic :) . i am confused by a current quest on Xbox too. It shows that Blinx Time sweeper is one of the games you can get an achievement in to get the 100 points for Xbox rewards however Blinx doesn't have achievements as it's an original Xbox game. Am i missing something here?

This is also my favorite sonic game, I fucking loved it as a kid and I recently played it again and I still love it. The controls are weird at times and the characters are way too slippery but i still had a lot of fun.

Off topic but I find it really funny that everyone that I've met who's new to sonic accidentally call Omega "Gamma" Like I didn't know it was that common to mistake the both for eachother, to me they barely look alike

Sonic Heroes is like Crash Twinsanity to me. Very janky as hell but still very enjoyable experience because level design is very much fun and team mechanic is so interesting

Really liked this game. The gameplay with 3 different characters at once was fun. Really love the themes for everything team.

I think the biggest problem in this game is that there are some levels like rail canyon, casino park etc that kinda require you navigate through the games jankiness. If you know how to do that then you'll have a much better time but that just really isn't good game design. This is probably why the game is as split critically as it is tbh

I replayed this game to finally unlock the final story. Way back when I played this, I couldn't even beat Egg Emperor, and before that I used to be stuck in these hoard of enemies "Boss Fights". Even then, i remember spending hours on Heroes. I personally didn't enjoy replaying this game. I finally beat everything and got all chaos emeralds. It felt tedious to do all that. The game is fun when you're going fast and have these quick reaction moments. The combat is bland, not fun, and just slows down the game. The game really likes to slow down a lot actually. Heroes isn't a good game for me anymore. However, it's still a pretty flashy game, and there's some levels I really liked here, that I'm sad no one talks about.

Sonic heroes is a game I respect more than I like, it has high highs but some very low lows. Regarding with port to play I would suggest the pc port with reloaded II as you can use mods to make the game look better and get it working on windows 10. I’ve never felt so sweaty on a platformer or even a game in general besides this game i once had to wash my hands due to the sweat lol.

If he thinks Heroes was difficult, just wait until Unleashed

I'll tell you that there are all kinds of ways around the enemies bs in Heroes. Lots of tech that's just good for getting through shields, destroying big enemies faster, hell even level progression. What I will say for sonic unleashed is go into it not with mind set of trying go fast, but enjoying what the Werehog does. Night time stages are a beat em up hack and slash. If try to go through the combat sections just trying to get through instead using all of Werehog Sonic's attack moves, it will ruin the experience and make the game go a lot longer.

Loved Heroes back in the day, but yeah the biggest disappointment was mostly the paper-thin story for me. Almost every Sonic game thereafter pretty much disappointed me as far as story goes. Sonic '06 at least gave an effort, but it ended up being pretty convoluted and the way it ended made you question whether it was even worth it to begin with. I keep wishing for a day when we get a game with a plot as well-constructed as Adventure 2. I have faith it'll happen eventually someday...

I think this game was my proper introduction to Sonic, Growing up i was a huge Mario kid, and he was my favorite video game character of all time (still is btw). So my friends tell me about this sonic character who was better than mario, and i remember playing the genesis games and genuinely thinking they were boring, then one day i played this game at my neighbors house and had so much fun that i went "oh now i see why they like sonic so much" still remembered the game fondly until i played it again and it wasn't as good as i remembered.

If you enjoyed Shadow's game, you will pretty much enjoy every Sonic game out there, but the popular opinion is that after 2010 the franchise went downhill and people weren't so keen on Sonic anymore. Now with the two movies and the hype about Frontiers (let's wait and see how that turns out) is when it looks like the franchise is rising up again, but you might still be disappointed with some of the games of the 2010s because they are very different from what you've played so far

Even though they say it’s the “last great” Sonic game, it still has problems. The camera and control are neutered.

I love this game. The collision and controls can be annoying at times, but this sonic game compared to adventure 1 and 2 is just easier to take in. It's got a much simpler story, you aren't always changing characters, and there's only one gameplay style. You also don't miss much if you decide to play as one team vs another, as all teams go through the same levels, and even then, when playing as all the teams you get differences in the enemies and level design. The level themes themselves also remind me of classic sonic with how varied and creative they are.

Im really hoping Sonic Frontiers is good, it’s about time we get a good 3D Sonic game.

As a kid i loved this game but revisiting it today, it is really undercooked, tedious and in the case of chaotic team just plain frustrating gameplay. Even as a kid i must have noticed because I would revisit SA 1 and 2 but not really heroes.

My girlfriend is currently being forced by me to play the original trilogy, and I hope she reacts to these games the same way you do. She went to see Sonic 2 (The movie) and since then I've basically been hassling her to play through what is one of my favorite series of all time, and I'm re-finding my love for it through videos like this and the playthroughs. I hope she likes Shadow's story too, because I don't think she has any clue as to what's in store (Granted she doesn't really know the full gist of Adventure's backstory either)

Sonic Heroes was the first Sonic game I bought, and when I got it, it came with this HUGE manual with all the stuff from the instruction booklet, but also all of the games secrets, and where all the Chaos Emerald keys where, which was very helpful lol I do understand the critique that the story could've had a bit more going for it, with the ambiguity of Shadow, and the detective side with the Chaotix. I like the light hearted approach, cuz I felt like it was a good change of pace with the stories from SA1&2, but I do get that they could've done a little bit more. Maybe really emphasize Metal Sonic's obsession with being the real Sonic would've been fun. I had a blast with this game as a kid, but I apparently had the worst version, which was the PS2 copy, so that explains a lot of the hair pulling moments I had with heroes lol Hopefully, SEGA can port it to PC, or I can find a way to get my hands on a GameCube. One last thing: I am extremely happy that you've had a positive experience with Sonic fans and your videos! Being in the community myself, I know that we can be very...sensitive for lack of better word, when it comes to opinions and criticisms for Sonic games, so I am super glad that this community has been very welcoming for you :)))

If you're seeking out answers for Shadow's true fate, you will have to play the Secret Final Boss of Shadow the Hedgehog for more than _Nine Minutes._ - which hearing about your experiences _here_ shouldn't be a problem for you. Still I couldn't tell if you were making a joke about Omega's name...it's...not possible for you to have gone through the game and not know that he _isn't Gamma._

Can't say I ever had a whole lot of trouble with combat. And once you actually figure out enemies properly and how to distribute powerups (like from checkpoints) most combat is actually very easy. But yeah, I do love most of the levels in Heroes. I think the level design overal is superb. And for Adventure 1 and Adventure 2 I wanted longer stages for Sonic-style gameplay. Heroes is basically a full game with that kind of gameplay and much longer stages. But yeah... the story is just... awful. And most of the bosses aren't very good either (you can beat some of them before the gameplay even starts).

12:00 You realized they went to a simpler story after the two adventure games, right? And you mention you used to be a Sonic "hater". Well, that's a direct result of people complaining about Sonic having stories and that it's suppossed to be for kids ONLY. And that sentiment has only increased in recent years. For the past 10 years, Sega has been trying to cater the games for people who DON'T like Sonic. Which alienates people who liked the old stuff. If only people did like you and actually bothered to play the games...

Lol I bought a 24” Shadow Backpack Plus for my Field trip this Wednesday

I remember going to someone's house to check out their xbox back in the day and when going through their games I saw this among them and I was super confused. My brain couldn't comprehend Sonic being on anything but Sega systems and I thought it would be a one off spin off or something and not the Real Sonic experience, so I played it that one time, didn't think much of it and moved on to the next game. Little did innocent little me know what actually happened to Sega and why this was actually on a system that wasn't theirs :/

Sonic Heroes actually runs okay on 360 aside from 12fps cgi cutscenes and it may be the sharpest of the console versions
