I was a mocap animator on this project and you are 100 percent correct about it being a scripted cut scene even though we animated alot of characthers individaully so they could have made a madden mobile type game. sad that the devs didnt use our mocap to make a more engaging game
I think they don't want to because they don't want to commit the resources just for people to not buy it because it's not licensed. To be honest I would definitely take the game you're proposing. Just add in some really cool customization options. Create a football world that has it's own stars, maybe do some "fake" ads with those players on the 2K website or the page for the game and help people get acclimated to the players. That would make it interesting. The problem these smaller studios have had trying to make football games is they don't have the budgets to make their leagues come to life. You need to do the work with promotion and advertising to bring people to it.
i been saying for the longest they shoulda never signed that deal with the nfl and just made a new APF...they could just use all generics instead of actual legends and then they have a legit game
you think theyd revive their whole series that they barely have rights to on a mobile game? they did the same thing with nhl but with worse cutscenes, they didnt revive nhl 2k, so they wont for the nfl after a simple supercard game
They can’t. It sucks. Most people don’t realize Coke and Pepsi know they need each other. They both work together to prevent price wars while still battling for market share. It’s developed a ‘healthy market’ (ironic, I know). Microsoft, Apple, and Android (Google) have created a healthy market. If my Apple experience deteriorates to Madden levels, I get a high end Windows based computer.
Same thing I've b been saying about EA College FB. I have no idea why ppl believe it will be anything more than Madden reskinned in college uniforms or believe dynasty mode will be great when they haven't produced a decent season mode for any sports game in over a decade smh.
If I were to have some copium I would assume they tried to add gameplay but EA and the NFL was breathing down their necks because the gameplay was decent so they just removed gameplay 😂😭 (Copium)
exactly, 2k made that game too, and ones for nhl and nba... i feel like this review is the guy walking into a clear card game expecting madden mobile, but not understanding thats not the goal of the game
@@davis1744 plus if people watched Eric watweathers video this is not the only nfl game 2k is making they are making a console game but you getting people overreact and thinking this is the only thing 2k is doing 😂😂😂
@@SphinX504 Because they can't make a simulation game EA owns the rights because of the contract with the NFL and will sue so yea it is their fault yet again.
@@dailybestbetswithteemoney3432No the fuck we don't, EA can eat a fucking dick still. If they didn't buy the rights out, Madden would be just like NBA Live.
@@DiobeticDaily no, they knew it was supercard... theyve made these games for YEARS and in some cases they do get decade long player support like with wwe supercard, and the nhl ones they made were relatively decent player base wise until they took them off the app store, not mentioning the nba one they made that ties into nba myteam. the goal of these games isnt to be a simulation like the console versions counterparts, just kind of a go fish type game, where youre more predicting the other players cards for the round, instead of playing a life like simulation
2K know how much people have been hyping up the NFL 2K comeback and they knew if this piece of shit game got any publicity, they’d be dragged so hard they’d never be able to recover. This way they can make a few bucks off of dumb little kids in obscurity.
Thanks a lot EA I'm so sick of them having the exclusive license and I also blame the NFL do they not realize Madden is making them look bad .. but unfortunately EA will always have the license until ppl stop buying it
It should be illegal. Monopoly. The NFL themselves have the right to offer more than 1 license if they choose after EAs expires. I don't know why they don't do it the NFL would benefit greatly by allowing more than 1 lisence.
I don't know why anyone ever had hope for this game. 2k only got the license to make an arcade game. On top of that, they've been phoning it in hard on their own sports games anyway. Just like EA Sports isn't the old EA Sports, 2k Sports isn't the old 2k Sports.
I've heard that this isn't the game they've been working on for years now. It's like what someone else pointed out, console games go through a long process. There is no way all of that process would go into a mobile game. It looks like they started working on this mobile game somewhere in 2023 at least. Actually, I've seen this on the play store weeks ago, but I didn't pay any mind to it. if we don't get any more information by football season, I was probably wrong and maybe this might be it. Hopefully it is not.
its blown out of proportion, if you know 2k in the mobile landscape, then youd know these types of games are usually hits in their respective sports cultures, like wwe's version is probably over a decade old atp, and still has a lot of players, nba's version ties into myteam, and the nhl one was good as a hockey fan, but i think they lost liscensing so they had to take that one down
@davis1744 "it's popular, so it's good" is one of the worst arguments I've ever read. Are you also going to try and tell me Call of Duty is good because it's the highest selling game? Is McDonalds good too?
@Mr.Misanthrope yes general consensus says both McDonald's and cod are good in their own aspects... you don't become the highest selling video game by being bad and having a dedicated fan base of close to 20 years smh (Edit) also these comparisons are relative, is McDonald's a 5 star meal? No but you also don't walk into McDonald's expecting gourmet...
I was thinking the same thing. I'm just stressed out with this, I'm glad I won't download that garbage of a game and I won't play it. Like most guys, I'll wait until EA Sports College Football 25 comes out. We can hope and fingers crossed that it will not be like Madden.
well stop then lmao, 2k's supercard games arent new, wwe supercard has past the decade point... this game wasnt supposed to be the definitive revival of nfl 2k, just like how their nhl supercard wasnt a revival of nhl 2k, its just a mobile game, just like how the nba version despite tying in to myteam is just a mobile game
@owenfr1 nobody's meat riding, overall I'm pretty in different with 2k, I just played the supercard games growing up and have seen this cycle, I'm just reminding people not to get pissed over something that's happened twice now over a game style that's 10+ years old atp, when 1 the game isn't advertised as what's its being criticized for and 2 overall is a decent game if you give it a chance... tbh, overall has nothing to do with 2k and I'd do the same thing if say someone said all this about any games I like, especially if ppl were mad about really nothing
@@davis1744 but your response was pretty irrelevant lol. YOU enjoy this dumb ass card game and that’s fine. I’ve never heard of them and don’t care to know. I’m disappointed that they released this & you or nobody else is going to make me feel a way about MY feelings towards the game lol.
@Demoeroberson well I can't change your feelings but what I can tell you is, it's in your head, and it's not worth the brain power, the cycle happened before and it's happening again, it's up to you how disappointed you get over something that's happened before (Edit) and reasonably could've been expected to happen again
There’s rumors that there’s a console game coming too, but why release this first? Also not sure if those rumors are even legit just repeating what I’ve heard
Remember when we all thought that 2K was going to make an NFL Blitz like game? At least a true arcade style game not one with micro transactions and card collecting BS. 😠
The sad part is when I heard about this I kinda wanted to try it because i thought it would be the cards themselves playing the game like SuperCard, this just looks so boring.
I don't think it is. It was supposed to be released on all consoles. This is a mobile game only. However I have only the most minor of expectations because the gameplay will almost certainly be garbage. It'll be an arcade style game. If we wanted that B.S. we would just play Wild Card Football🤢🤮
it is! they only got the NFL license if the game was "non simulation" because thats EA's deal. we were hoping for an NFL street type game but this is what 2K had in mind
@sublime90 this isn't that game... it's been said numerous times by the dev and anyone covering it use Google before saying stuff that makes you seem dense.
expectation vs reality, 2ks supercard games are good, but better when they have aa console counterpart, the nba supercard ties into myteam, and the wwe supercard has been around for over a decade, BUT the nhl one even despite a decent player base didnt live because even thouogh it's just a classic supercard game they couldnt tie it into a console version leaving replayability a littte iffy, it got taken down either due to liscensing or because of the replayability... i imagine the nfl one will have a similar life cycle to the nhl one, BUT to call a supercard game bad, because youre expectations were too high isnt really fair imo being that again some of them last a decade plus and are relatively good for mobile games
Call me crazy, but a football based strategy card game is a really interesting concept. Too bad this is gacha shovelware. A Balatro for football could be amazing
Just watching this gameplay reminds me of a watered down version of NFL Showdown by Wizards of the Coast, which was *so* cool. A deeper version of this without would be legit to me.
I had the same impression. A casual NFL deck-builder game could be enjoyable, but this just looks like zero strategy my-numbers-are-bigger-than-your-numbers crap. I would compare it to the card game War, but (9:19) it looks like they unironically put War in as a game mode.
I know it is hard to ask. But please make a game about the UFL 2k while having the SAME gameplay as all-pro Football 2k and it is the only thing I am genuinely hoping for as a football fan. which is also one of the reason why I really want UFL to succeed. like I just missed 2K Football man..
I am a player of Wwe SuperCard so this doesn’t hurt my heart as many 2k5 people but hopefully they expand this cause if not dead on arrival just gives me hope at least some news on the console game releases soon
They are still making a console game. But the fact that they just released this with no other info (so everyone thinks this is THEE game), is not a good look for them. To me, it just confirms they have no confidence in the non-sim game they are making on top of all the silence for years. Plus they've supposedly had to hit the reset button on that game a few times...likely bcuz they are constantly being told what they can't put in the game by the NFL to keep it arcade.
yes but they can draw the line very close such as making it 7on7 rather than 11on11, and make it fairly realistic but i hope they come out with a console release atleast
what’s crazy about that is the fact that game sounds oddly similar to All Star QB which is just a swipe simulator you can’t actually play the game and you can’t even select your own teams or anything
Why did it take so long to make it then? I'm completely confused on why it'd take years to make a game like this when there's stuff like this everywhere on the app store
This is exactly how the NBA version of this is (I think its someone else making it actually but still) and it works for what it is. Some RPG simulator. Not really sure what ppl were expecting for a mobile release
I assume this happened because 2K isn't allowed to make real football. I'm not sure the NFL is ever going to give up that license unless EA screws up REALLY badly. As much as people complain about Madden, it still sells.
While part of me is infuriated that there isn't a good football game with a community creations suite, and I will forever hate EA for the exclusive license nonsense, I am so thankful for emulation. I'm wondering if the mod community may pivot to rom hacks of games like NFL 2K5 and All Pro 2K7, assuming that it's doable with how popular PCSX2 is, and I expect 360 and PS3 emulation to take some big steps in the coming years. It's really sad that we can not rely on game developers to make games. Just like not having any faith in Hollywood to make a classic.
I didn't even knew this came out today, thanks for making the video Softdrinktv. P.S.: I am VERY interested in seeing Angry Joe tackle this one, even if it's in an Angry Rant video or in his AJS News.
they legally CANT make a simulation game that you can acctually play becuase of the contract with EA, and half of this review was the fact that its not what they legally cant do
EA really blocked 2K from making anything more😭 that’s crazy maybe in the future. I saw a Varsity football game on tik tok that’s looks amazing animation wise maybe they should invest in that
The game is made by CatDaddy ... it is effectively an NFL Supercard and was expected to play like this. Remember 2k has the rights to a "NON-Simulation" NFL game. They legally can't make it where you can control the players, EA has the exclusive rights to do that. I've played WWE Supercard for 10 years ... its more of a CCG Strategy game with NFL theme. If you are looking for this, this game is actually fun (and I have been enjoying it.). If you were looking for a simulation NFL title, yeah, that was not going to happen due to EA's exclusive rights.
You have to understand that 2k is on a probationary period with the NFL. The NFL took the price markdown of 2k5 to heart and now 2k is given bare bones to even create football games with their license. I think game content will improve if the relationship between 2k and the NFL continue to improve.
So true but with as much as madden SUCKS, hopefully we'll get this back as the NFL 2k franchise would have destroyed EA & MADDEN hence them buying up the licenses to have real team names etc.
Proof that the decision makers at gaming companies don't actually play games. It baffles me that all through the years, we had PES as an alternative to fifa, but no alternative to madden.
People need to stop thinking that a new 2K game would look and play like APF 2K8. That was 17 years ago (hard to believe) 2K has changed, the industry has changed, and their staff have surely changed. Just because a new game would have 2K in the title doesn't mean it would be anything like a game from 17 years ago.
If they can’t make a sim game, why don’t they make their version of nfl street. Even a nfl tour with more to do and better customization would be better than this
At this point, where is Tecmo? Give them the NFL license so we can get a good arcade football game. Tecmo Superbowl and Tecmo Superbowl 3 were amazing games, so if 2K, can't maybe someone else can.
Been waiting YEARS for this to come out ever since it was announced, I kept up to date with news, speculation etc. This feels like a nightmare. I genuinely feel like any moment I'm gonna wake up or this is gonna be a really late April fools joke
if you know 2k you know they make these mobile games, this isnt at all meant to be a revival of nfl 2k, they did the same thing with nhl supercard despite at that time being probably half a decade out of their last nhl game. if its anything like the last time they made a supercard game with a league ea has major rights to (nhl supercard) it will be comparable to wwe supercard (the original game like this going a decade strong) but WILL be taken down within 5 years. if you expected a simulation game like madden of course youre dissapointed, itd be like getting clash royale and expecting clash of clans, theyre not meant to be the same game nor are they advertised to be.
2K made a NFL gacha card battler that isn't a good card battler and is just pre-recorded scenes. There is no reason to sugar-coat anything or they to be nice about what they released.
This is one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen in sports gaming. The way 2K NEVER stated nor even implied that this would be this type of game, let alone mobile, is CRAZY
This isn't what NFL2K is going to be, It's a side project like NBA Supercard (although that game kinda fell off), it's free with no ads and an NFL License there's nothing to complain about.
As someone who has never played an NFL head coach game, I played this and it sort of feels like that, but it’s just one quarter and you don’t do anything else. Hopefully people are right about the console game. Edit: I wanna see Ryanmoody21 review this. He’d probably defend it like hell. And no I’m not an EA defender (2 things: 1-CFB 25 is EA’s only new game I like and that’s about it, I’m not buying madden, NHL, fc, and heck not even nba 2k, only reason I think cfb 25 is better is because it had more time than madden, had effort, different dev team, and bigger budget (I don’t really think I’ll get 26 tho or any other one maybe until they make a new engine). 2- I hate both EA and 2K, tho while I think 2k is better gameplay wise, I think they’re worse when it comes to greed with VC and MT, at least madden has one currency). Edit 2: NFL Heas coach games were probably coach sim games so maybe they weren’t allowed to make a head coach game either.
Such a odd thing to throw out as your first game in so long. And for it being a turn based simulator and you can’t control most of the actions is also rather odd on your own. Definitely like those Supercard games (I’m amazed people remember it)
2K will never make another NFL football game as we remember. Yes, we all say “just reproduce what you had in 2005 and we’ll be happy.” The dev egos will not let them simply rehash what did 20 years ago, even if it is good. They would try to rework it and probably screw it up to fit in with today’s marketplace. I have now abandoned all hope for 2K football in my lifetime. Oh well…😑
Even though it's all "cutscenes" the pass at 6:26 looks pretty solid. Like the throwing mechanics look way better than Madden. I hope they're able to make something soon. I get that they're limited, but a card game isn't the best move to get people excited about 2k Football again.
I get that the game itself might be bad, but man the animations and physics are just SO much more fluid than Madden. Really hoping 2K eventually makes a real football game man. The fluidity they have in their engine or whatever the hell they are doing is just so nice looking. Every interaction just looks so natural.
2K Loyalists will recognize this as the football version of the NBA 2K card mobile game circa 5-7 years ago. Also not so good, but an easy way to get some VC back in the day 🤓
Madden should re-release some older game like 07’ with current rosters and commentary. I rather have those graphics but gameplay than what we have now.
Millions of people would pay hard earned money for simply this. Take the NFL 2K5/2K8 All pro football code and add onto it. Update the graphics and rosters. Add a bunch into franchise to make it fresh (Draft, Training camp, Extensive contract customization /options) Allow mod support. Boom easy money and automatically better then any madden game of the last 12 years.
The second I saw the first card in this video (with the weird rating) I got a gross feeling in my stomach. That happened because this is essentially just re-skinned NBA2K mobile.
Bruh, it's a prototype for a mobile to at least raise an alarm to say we are in works. A free mobile version is something interesting. It is taking analytics to show the probability of a play working instead of madden BS animations. However, without much rights from the NFL, it is a tricky situation. Also, the draft isn't done. They have to take into considerations of rosters.
heres the thing, this honestly feels like a base for something that can be improved on later. so the "gameplay" isnt user controlled, but imagine this as a single player franchise simulator. add in some auto generated draft classes, free agency periods, player development, and i think youve got a really solid mobile remake of the NFL Head Coach series.
If you strip away the mobile cards, open up the playbooks, and add in a sports management engine like the "Football Manager" series, that would be the ultimate football game that I'd like to play.
You need to remember that 2k has changed, the studio known for 2k5 and APF is long gone. When you compare Playmakers to what 2k is actually doing within the sports game space, this makes way more sense. We're not getting a quality simulation football game from 2k ever again.
Proof that 2K will still do the same scummy shit EA does if they ever make a full NFL game. The gameplay might be marginally better, but it's still going to be a soulless, pathetic moneygrab.
I really enjoy it. I understand it’s not anybody’s cup of tea but we knew forever it was not going to be a simulation game. The draft board is very comparible to WWE/NBA SuperCard and I really like that. It is a simulator game, it’s not meant to play like a real football game. As you get dupes it auto levels them and increases your rating, same thing for plays. I think you were expecting something completely different than what they said it was, and your review is biased because of that. I enjoy it for what it is
It’s THE PEOPLE that are making the game that counts! Everything from the designer, coder, artist and sound takes a team. The people at these companies are not the same people from years ago. It doesn’t matter if the “Exclusive license” will no longer exist. It takes a great team of people from the top to bottom to make a phenomenal game. If/when that time comes just remember that it’s the team of PEOPLE that made it happen and whatever company makes that happen better do their best to keep those people happy, well paid and retain them. Unfortunately, a lot of companies don’t do that. Love your videos! Keep up the great work.
This seems like something I'd like as a mobile game tbh. It's kinda like those coach sim FMV games on the old Sega consoles which were fun for a few minutes
Yeah people are being too hard on this, it looks lime a fun time waster for mobile. Perhaps the most advanced you can make a football game on mobile is Retro Bowl. 2K isn't gonna give you All Pro 2k8 on mobile, what were people expecting? A proper console footy game will need at least 3 years dev time.
@@burningphoneixfirst off, they announced a 2k football game was being made 5 years ago, and secondly, where did this idea come from that players should lower their expectations, if a major studio says they’re making an arcade nfl game, and then they make rock paper scissors, it’s entirely justified to be let down
