So... I Played the WORST Wrestling Game Ever Made

There have been a lot of wrestling games made over the past 30 or so years, from WWE games to WCW games to games only released in Japan. Everyone always remembers the classics, such as Here Comes the Pain and the SVR series, but I thought why not go back to a game that is not that well known (for good reason), go back to a game from the year 2000 for the PS1. The last ever WCW video game that was ever released. WCW Backstage Assault is often considered the worst wrestling game ever made, so I thought why not see HOW BAD.. the worst wrestling game is? (I now regret doing this). Lets check it out!

This was my favorite game as a kid because I loved the backstage brawl element of WWF No Mercy, so when a game that was played entirely backstage came out it was so awesome, recently replayed it, and now I get why everyone hates on it so much...

This game is the prime example of WCW, not giving half a sh*t anymore about its product or fanbase, releasing a train wreck this bad and thinking fans would just eat this one up. And to think a few days later, No Mercy would release, and would become a huge success, while WCW would die a few months later. What a way to go out, and what a time to be alive.😂

I tourtured myself playing this game to give my CAW more backstory history and let me just say... I did not have fun it was literally grinding at work. Nothing fun about it. Another game just as bad has to be the prequel Mayhem... And it was the first wrestling video game I ever played so as a 7 yr old it was a blast but as an adult it's inexcusable EA really be making bad games. I DONT KNOW how they got a second chance When ECW hired them to make a game after WCW was gone 😂 it's insane.

Mayhem is no Revenge, but it plays like a dream in comparison to Backstage Assault. I wouldn't rate it super high, but it's at least a functional wrestling game at the end of the day, it was...okay.

As a kid I LOVED how easy it was to bleed in Legends of Wrestling 2. It felt like all you had to do was breathe in your opponent's direction or flick the poor mf and boom, the whole canvas is covered in red drops everywhere. Also the concept of destroying the cage door to escape in cage matches was funny as hell to me lmaooooooooo

I wish I had bought something else like WCW/nWo Revenge instead because I had bought this for my n64 back then, because I was a sucker for backstage brawls, but little did I know that the glitches and the graphics, OH BOY THE GRAPHICS, they were the worst kind of stuff available in the 2000s even worse than WWE 2K20’s I hated them then and I hate them now thanks to your video reopening the wounds, but still fun video overall especially you ripping this game to shreds!!!

I was 8 when this came out. I wanted this when I saw the ads for it. I was so excited thinking “we can brawl anywhere oh my god!!!!” Annnnnddd when my parents bought it for me, I had to continually lie that I enjoyed this when in reality, this game haunts my psyche to this day lol. You know it was bad when the very confusing Acclaimed Games put out ECW Anarchy Rulz and THAT was a genuine blast in comparison to Backstage assault. Hell, Crush Hour looks god tier next to this damn game.

"What the **** was WCW in 2000?!" You just had to be there, man. And be glad you weren't. To me, the only good things from WCW in 2000 were Lance Storm's push and Booker T winning the World Title. I can't believe that game cost $70. It's a shame Playstation owners never got a great WCW game.

WCW vs. The World was decent. It's the grandfather of the AKI engine, so you get glimpses of what World Tour and Revenge ended up being.

Did you upscale the graphics with emulation for this video because those graphics look better than I remember them? I get it though because this game needed all the help it could get. As for games competing for the contender of "worst" wrestling game... 5 Star Wrestling Regenesis is on there. I don't remember if it handles as bad as this one but if Backstage Assault is the No Mercy of bad wrestling games, 5 Star Wrestling Regenesis is the Here Comes the Pain of bad wrestling games.

When I was a kid I remember saying this doesn't look half bad. Boy....was I wrong LMAO..but I was young. It was not far off from the best wrestling games had to offer. Only N64 was doing wrestling games justice back then. PlayStation..PC etc.... failed big time on all of them. Never played it (skipped SEVERAL consoles), this looks like a 5 star game compared to WWF Wrestlemania on the NES. THAT was the worst of which ranks just behind ECW Hardcore Revolution on the PS1. 2 of the WORST wrestling games I've played.

This game may not worth for playing over and over again, But it actually have a good point. -Terrible character graphics and render in this game actually have an advantage. When you create custom characters it actually easier to create anyone without serious about realistic 😆(And the variety of character attires, moveset was 100x better than WCW Mayhem) - Variety weapons to use and bash anyone as you like. If you think it's fighting game than wrestling game it would be more decent. - Lots of Wrestlers to use. But one thing I hated is - Hardcore game without Meng, Terry Funk !!!!!!!! Are you kidding me.
