So I tried playing PS2 Games on PS5... 

We really need to stop calling this kind of thing 'backwards compatibility' because it isn't. There are bespoke PS5 games that you have to purchase on PS5 and can only play on PS5. It's a port. Backwards compatibility means a system is compatible with the same media from an older system, which PS5 is only truly backward compatible with PS4.

Being able to flip the controls around is a solid feature I think. Its actually surprising just how many action games on the PS2 have the horizontal camera inverted and there is no way to change it, its weird because I somehow just don't really remember it being a common thing at all, but it's actually borderline the standard camera controls its so ubiquitous. Will definitely make some of those old games a lot more approachable for people who didn't necessarily grow up on them I think

This is cool, but this is not the real backwards compatibility because I should be able to put in my PS2 Discs and it should just work.

Loved that they went back and added Trophies to Toy Story 2

I'm SO GRATEFUL for sly release. I dont have my old consoles anymore and im sick of paying for Playstations streaming service to play the collection, can't wait for 2&3 🙏

If it weren't for Valve's Steamdeck I don't think Sony would have taken steps to make PS2 games playable on PS5.

This week Gamestop had a sale where you could get 4 games under $10 for $20, I ended up getting 3 PS4 games as well as a copy of Wild Arms 3 because there was nothing better for me to get. Until this year I've only owned the original PlayStation and didn't buy a PS4 but rather was given one by my manager after she got a PlayStation 5 for Christmas. This really made me want to get a PS2 even more to try it out, as so many great games are still stuck on that system.

Enhancement is the rewind feature. You can turn it off because it causes some framerate dips on ps4

I think the pricing is about prestige. Tomb Raider Legend is the iconic to the point that regardless people like me will pay $20 for it. You can put ridiculous amount of effort into Clone Wars game but nope, aint no way u can convince me to buy that at $20

I recommend everyone use the classic arcade filter, it makes the games look sooo much better. I own Clone Wars on both the series x and ps5 and the performance is poor on both.

I actually wouldn’t mind the original version of Yakuza 2 being added, I always wanted to play that back in 2008, even before Yakuza Kiwami 2 came out but I never got the chance and now that Kiwami 2 is my favourite in the franchise, I really want to play the original version of Yakuza 2

1:43 when I heard Toy Story 2 now has trophy support, I went to go and buy it for my PS5 only to see it was free? I don’t pay for any of the PlayStation subscriptions, but I bought it digitally on the PS3 a few back, so I wonder if that’s why. Can anyone else let me know if it’s free for them?

It’s ridiculous that it took 30 years for rewind features to become available when games like Tekken, Virtua Fighter and especially Gran Turismo were displaying replay footage on the PS1/Saturn. All this time the framework was there and no one thought to use it for gameplay.

Sure would be nice if they'd fix Ape Escape 2 so it doesn't give people a seizure.

You left out the fact clone wars has a unit viewer, full soundtrack player and 20min behind the scenes how the game was made all as unlockables

I platinumed clone wars it was pretty mindless but had a good time with it. The story was actually pretty cool and it was like a prototype for battlefront. As a huge trophy hunter I cant wait to dive into sly and tomb raider and all these other classics getting trophies

When I bought The Clone Wars I was initially dissapointed there wasn't much Jedi combat but it slowly became one of my favorite Star Wars games of the era. Excellent unique combat for sure.

Still no X-men legends, I’m glad they added these classics but disappointed with the ones they chose

It’s good that Sony is finally adding any significant number of PS2 titles to their premium tier but I feel like there should be some kind of case for false marketing on their part up until this point. Many people paid for premium when Sony first introduced the new tier system expecting PS2 games they didn’t really get for years (and no, I don’t think PS4 remasters of PS2 games count as much as Sony probably think they do). I also don’t think passing the blame on supposedly foolish early adopters who trusted Sony to give them a robust service should give them a pass. They knew the capabilities and state of their PS2 emulation the entire time. Selling this service the way they have is incredibly scummy.

There's so many PS2 games I missed and would like to play again. I honestly would not mind just getting them as they were when they released. That's what it would look like if I went and bought it on eBay anyway. The save state and rewind feature is a game changer. No more having to restart at your last save on your memory card. It's like Edge of Tomorrow and Ground Hog Day. Just keeping rewinding until you get it right. Why waste time making a game look slightly better when you could have used that time to release more games. I think the more games the better, at least with legacy titles.

Tomb Raider isn't stretched, the PS2 version was already supporting 16:9. Look at the button prompts, they're perfect circles.

8:52 "Enhancements" is the option to rewind. It's off by default on PS4 (you can still turn it on) since having the rewind function available affects the emulation's framerate. About trophies, it's a big sell for me. It adds something that is not something I can easily get with emulators, which is achievements that are officially tied to my account. It also adds more to do with the game than just playing it.

As many people that like these games, I have the ps3 sly Cooper collection. I have been hoping to play the discs, or import the disc to my ps5, the way ps4 discs, and get a minor upgrade, and add ons. I can play my ps3 console, with the ps5 controller ( I have a video on my channel, playing some).

Found you from your “PS Vita in 2024” video, love your stuff so far! I was on the fence about these ports because of how awful Ape Escape on PS5 was. A few of the already-ported games have really bad texture glitches. The “new” games look more promising though, looking forward to trying them.

Backward compatibility means that you can play your allready bought old collection of games with your new gen console. Matty should know better. People would rather pay for remakes/remasters than pay again for outdated looking games they already possibly own.

Hi ya Matty, i think we should eventually stop calling this and what xbox does backwards compatibilty because it's not. They are emulations and for xbox, they are legitimate ports. They all through recertification which objectively makes them not "backwards compatible"

LEGO Star Wars 2 on PSP was an interesting decision. But how about LEGO Star Wars 1 & 2 on PS2? Also, out of all of these announced games, I'm the most excited for Sly Cooper and Daxter. Would be great if we also saw the original Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter on PS2 as well, since the reboot of Ratchet & Clank is a completely different experience and the PS4 remasters of the Jak & Daxter series suck!

Tomb raider is more expensive because it’s a better game…it’s really that simple. Being an OG tomb raider fan from the very first game in 1996, the reboot trilogy was an absolute masterpiece. If they released anniversary and underworld for the same price as legend, and don’t do anything to the graphics ill still gladly pay that small price of $20-$30 per game, simply to experience the beauty that is those games. I actually was contemplating investing in a backwards compatible ps3 simply to play the reboot trilogy of TR. imagine what the fans would willingly pay to just have those classics available on our newer systems, If we’d be willing to shell out for a ps3 just for them.

You know we is Gamers need to just stop being so picky when companies are actually trying to do something we wanted. I'm in the minority I know this but still I'm so happy to be playing these games again and as a kid I never got to experience half of the lineup the PS2 even had. I'm growing bored of modern gaming and all the bells and whistles added to each new installment and going back and playing the Clone Wars was so much fun. I remember playing that game so much more originally then I did Battlefront 1 until I got Battlefront 2. And the trophies are so fun to hunt for while also adding to the fact that a lot of these older games didn't really give you much for 100% except for some bonuses that were normally one off, so having the ability to Trophy hunt for a reason to see these bonuses and another physical thing you can see and keep record of is genius. I'm not saying you can't have complaints or that they're doing a perfect job- I'm just saying we need to show PlayStation more support in the coming months so they see that there is genuine love for these older titles. The fact that the Clone Wars game and Sly Cooper both have five stars on PlayStation is a testament to this. However I believe that after the hype initially dies down people will start ripping into the emulation and considering that Sony has purchased a new emulation company and plans on doing more PS2, PS3, and PSP games in the future I really hope we as gamers in forgive a few issues some more people can experience the Legacy that is the systems. Backwards compatibility is good but not everyone has these games physically anymore and not everyone can afford to collect especially in this day and age. And that's coming from someone who is a collector himself but primarily collects games that I personally want to play regardless if they're rare or not. All in all I'm glad this is happening and I'm glad that there is a solid selection of classic games for someone who prefers older games over new ones. Great discussion video as always man😊

They are probably going with what publishers are willing to license out and add trophies to. This is not just a Sony initiative since it depends on the devs. It's unlike Xbox where they have no input from devs and pubs besides getting permission

They should add the DLC for ToyStory3 for Psp too (for free please) the ps2 version is the same but with all the dlc included. In my opinion, the Ps2/Psp is a way better game, great 3d platformer.

rewinding and save states are a fantastic feature but they do destroy the original feel because it becomes just part of the game choice ie it effectively is a means to cheat. The argument used that you don't have to use them is a daft one because while certainly true, if the options had been there originally then people would have used them. The point is it destroys authenticity of the original intended experience. And that's fine if you don't care but plenty do so it's a shame you can't disable them as part of the initial save select so to lock their use, meaning you can't use them no matter. That way you truly don't have to use these but also can't if you so desire. Simple
