Howard Keel...my favorite from the past. His deep resonating voice is unique. Plus he was an extremely handsome man. Love Cole Porter music. He was a genius.
When I was a kid, my parents took me to see "Kiss Me Kate" at the Cape Cod Melody Tent. It was wonderful and I have not forgotten the songs! I was about 10 years old, I think. I got a crush on one of the actors who played a gangster lol and, at the break at half-time, my father took me over to the special little building where people could meet some of the actors.....and I was so nervous to meet the guy who played a gangster! :-) We saw numerous shows there, through the years, and it is still standing.
Such a beautiful singing pair: Kathryn Grayson And Howard Keel ! What a wonderful charming pair with such matching voices will be difficult to ever find again.
A beautiful moment in musical theatre. Two really great stars with sympathetic voices entwined in a song with overtones of intrigue. A fabulous musical score and a dedicated cast of stars that made this a terrific moment in film. Miss Grayson's eye movements are a joy to behold. And her cheeky little hat adds to the merriment for me " Also the rich baritone voice of Mr Keel. And Mr Ron Randell seems to be actually playing the piano or at least covering the notes as written. Such a good film and musical.
No doubt touting-and-doting on the Golden Epoch of MGM's Colossal Musical Film Classics has in some way brought about an outright elevating-and-liberating moment to all the immortal-film musical buffs. It's a sort of reliving-and-reviving the beauty, the grandeur, and the magnitude of the former times once again. Just relax and sit tight! Prepare to get ultimately thrilled and intimately chilled with this Mr Howard Keel and Ms Kathryn Grayson's daintily and niftily rendered duet number of Mr Cole Porter's sweet-sounding yet heart-rending song-piece. This rather histrionic and iconic musical sequence in the 1953 Mr George Sidney's well-concocted motion picture transition of the famed stage hit "Kiss Me Kate" has never lost its hypnotic spell, its massive impact, its marked refinement; its melodic tune, and its lead stars' mightily-defining craftsmanship / prettily-winning partnership. There's nothing one doesn't love about the whole enchilada that this engrossing-and-surpassing film classic has to offer - notably Ms Ann Miller's quite blazing-and-tantalizing rapid-fire tap-dancing number of "Too Darn Hot" and Mr Hermes Pan's indubitably confounding and heart-pounding step designs of the finale number "From This Moment On" - being exceptionally-and-sensationally performed by the A+ gifted high-spirited dancers: in-pairs - Mr Tommy Rall and Ms Ann Miller; Mr Bobby Van and Ms Jeanne Coyne; Mr Bob Fosse and Ms Carol Haney. The latter dancing pair had executed and stood out in their nearly two-minute racy number with their well-infused creativity, exclusivity, and suavity ( being conceived by no-less-than the award-winning choreographer and director Mr Bob Fosse ). This one-of-a-kind movie is pretty hard to beat.
I've just listened to Alfred Drake, Robert Goulet and Howard Keel. And for me, Howard Keel is the tip top!!!!!! Same goes for Kathryn Grayson. And the two combined........oh my...........
@@micharomanowski3824 I just looked him up and found him on youtube ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vyzxc1o9BoI.html He's Wonderful. Thank you.
A terrific opening scene to a superb M.G.M. musical.I recently saw it in 3D and it blew me away.Howard Keel at his most virile and Kathryn Grayson at her most beautiful (love her as a blonde).Ann Miller, brilliant,in the best role of her career. Thanks for posting this.
and Tommy Rall who played Bill (he and Howard Keel had worked together later in 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' as Adam and Frank). I love this movie and Howard's voice never fails to make me swoon......
@cuneiform100 Anyone who can spell loser "looser", may consider themselves a loser without applying the title to anyone else. Keel possessed of course a particularly fine bass baritone voice of outstanding quality and of operatic proportions. By the early to mid 1950`s which is when his film career originated, public taste was changing dramatically and it became increasingly difficult to find suitable material for him, as was the case for many other Hollywood based stars of the time performing in the traditional film musical idiom, but to lay the blame for those of his films which did not bring MGM healthy returns entirely and personally at his doorstep, is of course ridiculous. He was a stage star before his first (highly successful) Hollywood appearance in "Annie Get Your Gun", and frequently returned to the stage thereafter, enjoying a long and successful post Hollywood career. As someone who saw him in the theatre, I can certainly attest to the quality of his voice, his acting ability and to his very charismatic stage presence. Your final sentence is too silly and nonsensical to bother responding to.
@@toff358 Howard Keel was very good in this, but, sadly, it was the beginning of the end for MGM musicals. interestingly, MGM's first choice for the female lead was. of all people, Deanna Durbin, whom they had dropped in the late Thirties, and who had gone on to star in a series of mostly so-so pictures at lesser Universal. Unwisely, Durbin turned them down. she would have been wonderful, had she had the class for forgive MGM and have a triumph, late in career. Grayson did it, as expected, and So In Love was nice, with Keel, whom she adored, but it was her last MGM musical. the picture is stodgy, brightened only by the lively presence of Ann Miller, and that terrific From This Moment On dance sequence with Miller (never better), Fosse, Haney, and the amazing Tommy Rall, and Bobby Van and Jeanne Coyne. wasn't in the play, but rescued this movie, for sure.
Oooh, just so gorgeous - it has everything. Thoroughly beautiful, with the romantic tension leavened by a sophisticated comical twist that is teased out and wonderfully sustained throughout the entire film. One of the absolute greats.
@@elvisobsessor ...and the next number, right on the heels of this, is a show-stopper in itself - Anne Miller singing and dancing Too Darn Hot - accompanied and followed by delicious comic rivalry between the ladies. I love this film so much.
Wow, their voices compliment each other so well! I've stuck mostly to Gene Kelly and/or Judy Garland MGM musicals, but it's clear that I need to branch out!
A gorgeous duet version of this was done for the movie "De-lovely" in 2005, I believe. The entire song is available on RU-vid. Lara Fabian is one of the singers.
When they sing this song!!! I feel like I am 17.... looking up at my first real boyfriend!!! Ahhh!! To be young again...!!!❤ Howard and Kathryn both have such beautiful Voices!! It is a joy to hear them!!!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Is this true? I actually saw it on Broadway as a seven-year old! You must have been very young as well! Write back so I know you're still here on Earth!
@@princeandrey Unfortunately I didn't appear in the Broadway production (born in the wrong place and the wrong time for that) but an amateur production at the Theatre Royal in Dumfries, Scotland in May 1981.
@@elvisobsessor many thanks Darla for your response to my comments. I love the music of Cole Porter. Kiss Me Kate is my favourite musical of all time. So many wonderful tunes. Thank you once again.
You're seeing and listening to the reason I am an incurable Kathryn Grayson fan, and how "Kiss Me Kate" led me to becoming obsessive Shakespeare fan This movie, an overall musical, is why I'm such an Shakespeare fan, and Kathryn IS the reason why, ..Howard;s NOT bad either (HA-HA).
The lyrics for: So in Love - Cole Porter Strange dear, but true dear When I'm close to you, dear The stars fill the sky So in love with you am I Even without you My arms fold about you You know darling why So in love with you am I In love with the night mysterious The night when you first were there In love with my joy delirious When I knew that you could care So taunt me, and hurt me Deceive me, desert me I'm yours, till I die..... So in love.... So in love.... So in love with you, my love... am I....
Kathryn Grayson is so wonderful in this film. I wish she had gone blonde more often! Talent up and down the cast list, both in front and behind the camera.
I have this movie. Have watched tons of times. I adore this apartment the way it's decorated. Would LOVE to recreate it but where would I get the money?
