@@yanicaguzman2817 I'm not sure if it's actually confirmed, there's only pictures of them together. For now we can just assume they're just friends but who knows 🤷🏻♂️
I think that we are so desensitized to seeing teenagers (that are played by actual adults) being an extreme adult situations, that we don’t notice how heartstopper is a breath of fresh air. I mean they are supposed to be a year younger than the kids in euphoria and I can more relate to taking an “am I gay quiz” than being held at gunpoint by my psycho ex-boyfriend who needs the sex tape(revenge porn) of my friend who had sex with his dad, who didn’t know she was under age at the time.
Okay but at the same time these are completely different shows lol. Euphoria is marketed as being exactly what it is, it’s not like they pretend it’s a show for children. It’s a very extreme show, I won’t act like it’s not, but although it’s not relatable to you, the general idea of the show and the issues of drug use, abuse, mental health are very relatable to some people. It’s literally just up to personal preference for what you want to watch.
euphorias not supposed to be relatable for the specific plot but more so the characters/character arcs/general portrayals, etc rue’s addiction, cassie’s longing for love or the general portrayal of domestic abuse. these shows are incredibly hard to compare, euphoria uses unrealistic wardrobe, makeup and settings with realistic acting, whereas heartstopper uses naturalism and everyday settings. people were subject to different things in high school so what’s not relatable to you may be relatable to someone else. :)
no one said euphoria was a bad show, why did you guys jump alex gray for no reason 😂 "I find teens in heartstopper more relatable than teens in euphoria" "yeah well it's just a preference okay!" yeah, that's-- that's what they said, like......
ben's actor got removed from tiktok or twitter once (cant remember exactly) because he started a "ben hate club" and the system thought he was bullying someone LMAOOO
It’s pretty awesome that an Oscar winning actress like Olivia Colman thought so highly of this show that she was willing to take such a small role to be able to be involved. She is a phenomenal actress.
@@pipkin3 she is confirmed to come back! her character is involved in a lot of the events that should be taking place in season 2 and 3 if it's going to involve book 3, and it would be a shame to lose so many of the scenes with nick's mum.
Not only did they actually use the word "Bisexual", and not just tiptoe around it, but they also used the word "Lesbian." I adore this show and its LGBTQA Plus diversity and inclusion! 🏳️🌈
It's just LGB, just because I am sexually attracted to the same gender does not mean that I support transexuals, etc. The two are extremely different things.
@@KillingMachine56656 I would say that most queer people also support Trans and Inter people and Other gender minority groups. They are part of our community. Also never forget who was at the front lines of the gay rights movement : non - cis people of colour! How can you literally stab people in the back who have fought for your rights?! You know how it feels to be discriminated against based on something you can't control, so don't do it to others!
The “am I gay quiz” is a universal experience. So is purposefully choosing the “straight” answers to reassure yourself of your truly authentic “heterosexuality”.
I never thought I could be gay cos I have no interest in guys. Then I slowly realised I'm some sort of ace. Then I figured out I'm not even a guy. And now I'm wondering if I'm some variety of ace lesbian.
Opposite for me, actually wanted the reassurance of an affirmative “yes love you bleed the rainbow” as an answer but all the questions were so sexual and I was like 11
17:13 is so funny to me because there's literally a meme of Imogen saying, "I'm not like homophobic...I'm an ally!" and ash said that before it got to that part, when I tell you I was CACKLING!!!
I love the contrast the show sets up between Ben and Nick.... they're both going through the process of coming to terms with their sexuality but Nick is respectful, kind and considerate of Charlie; whereas Ben gets scared and treats Charlie cruelly to deal with it.
I'm a straight, 26 y-o woman. You don't know how OBSESSED I am over these two. A friend forced me to watch the show since I wouldn't by myself, saying things like "I'm no longer a teen, I'm not gay, I can't relate..." NONSENSE! Their chemistry is insane, and who wouldn't relate with such a sweet, innocent love? We're all babies under our "tough grown-up" shields
26, same ❤️ all these new shows with lgbtq characters and developed stories makes me emotional thinking of all the representation these new generations have. Not only shows like this but also in kids shows!! While my teen self could only find tragic love stories on the Internet 💔
As a girl that had a lesbian relationship at sixteen and didn’t have a supportive mom watching Nick’s relationship with her mother was almost healing in a way🥺🥺
The show is extremely well written. It was written by Alice a non binary writer who started it as an online graphic novel, it got published and then they secured a three season deal with Netflix. The representation is phenomenal with real queer actors.
@@alexmarcal9276 I mean the graphic novel is literally called heartstopper lol. she also wrote a book about asexuality called loveless and it's really good! highly recommend it.
12:36 charlie intentionally put "my supportive straight friend" in the text because he was trying to subtly figure out if nick was straight - he assumed he'd correct him if he wasn't
i am proud to say that i was sobbing when tara and darcy public kissed and the light behind them- nick seeing it and being so overjoyed by them being happy just.. serotonin.
The “am I …” quiz is such an universal experience. Like honestly all my queer friends have taken at leaaast one. Also this reaction is coming at the best time to cheer me up. There were some really depressing news in my country lately and I just came home from pride. It’s actually really comforting to watch this rn.
OMG, when Ashley said "I'm an Ally" I CACKLED and I couldn't wait for her to get to that Imogen moment. hahahahahaahahahaa. So glad you watched the show Ashley!
ASH the genuine fear in ur eyes when imogen said her ally line 💀💀💀💀 dw girlie we don’t see u as that!! u are a GENUINE ally and we love u for that xoxoxoxo
personal experience: i did exactly what nick did, quizzes, researches, reading stories of other people. It helped a lot, especially reading other people's experiences...and that scene hit close to home.
Highkey recommend watching Young Royals too, it's a Swedish series with a lot of the same vibes but a little more mature and with extra ~drama~ bc one of them is a prince
I mean I understand why Nick was hesitant to help Charlie when he got tackled. When you are hiding something, you get paranoid and believe even the smallest thing can get you discovered
I feel like I write this under every heartstopper reaction, but people are doing Tao so dirty😭like you're allowed to be hurt that your friends put their lovers over you! People just always deem romance as more important than friendship, so everyone's saying Tao is overreacting, but I feel for him so much! As an asexual person, who's never been in a relationship, it feels pretty shitty to always be second choice to all your favourite people.
He IS overreacting, thats the role point! Nobody is perfect and the way he acted to Charlie wasn't nice, but he learned and said sorry at the end! Charlie have a lot of traumas from when he got bullied, and so does Tao. They have diferent ways of coping with that and thats fine too, at the end of the day they are teens and still learning
@@eduardacaixeiro7481 only morons who think that friendship is less valuable than love or that friendship is an imperfect form of romantic/sexual love see that as overreacting. and they probably are the same people who dump friends they have known for years because of some dude/girl they have a crush on and then crawling back to them once it's over.
not me convincing myself Ash would watch the whole season in 30 minutes 💀 I can't wait for the reaction to the rest of the show! I wasn't expecting a Heartstopper reaction, but I knew it was gonna be amazing, as always!! as someone who read the webcomic, i felt adding Imogen for drama was a tad unnecessary. still lovely to see the character development of both Nick and Imogen, and she did have the iconic "I'm an ally" moment! a part of me kinda wishes her character had served as one of Nick's friends whom he trusted to confide in, or at least be more comfortable around as he's learning more about his sexuality. it's still a lovely first season, though, and I can't wait to watch the next ones!!
I think of Ash saying "Im an ally" less of someone who thinks the bare minimum is godly and more of "I'm a mom who just wants my kids to be happy, so every chance I get ill remind them I support them"
The way 6:16 "I am an ally" was such an Imogen meme, then telling to Imogen "you are not an ally" in 17:13 , the setup was perfect for the famous scene!
One of the best things about Nick and Charlie is that Alice Oseman (the author of the Hearstopper comics, and who also writes the show) already said they will never break up, so we can just enjoy them being cute and in love and growing up together.
As a Brit yeah this show is amazing! And it’s actually like how schools are not like how most shows seem to Think British schools are. Also I love your videos ash!
i mean, yeah it is uncalled for saying she's an ally, but im glad she really is one. just look at how happy she is when she realized that nick and charlie are tgt. a true ally. and honestly, i wouldnt know how to break the awkward tension if i was in her place...
22:07 oh wow good catch ash i never rly noticed that nick just opts to say he's feeling ~normal~ when asked and that adds sm to the story and the development of his character
Yeah, she's one of the few reacters to not mention Olivia Coleman. As it's not really advertised that she's Nick's mom at all so people who have only seen the trailer (or have seen nothing about the show) for the show get fucking blindsided by Olivia fucking Coleman being in the show.
I was smiling this entire video. Regarding 30:51 I'm literally 20 and I'm revellinggggg in this cheesy show. THE GAYS NEED CUTE ROMCOMS TOO not just straight people. Netflix took my only representation away as a black lesbian (First Kill's cancellation) so I'll take all that I can get tbh
@@adeleaslan8182 it got canceled because of low viewership which is bullshit because First Kill had double the watch time that Heart Stopper had and stayed in the Top 10 for like 4 weeks straight alongside Season 4 of Stranger Things and I think Surviving Summer
29:38 The thing is Ash, before you’re out, and especially if you’re a guy, you’ll literally panic about any form of social contact with your partner in public. Even the smallest thing like helping a teammate get up will seem like a big deal. Unfortunately, I did not have the privilege of dating anyone before I was open about my sexuality, but when I did start around 16, some guys I’d have things with who weren’t out yet would literally panic about even saying a “hi” in the hall - thus me understanding Ben’s negative reaction in the first episode; it might seem irrational for someone who hasn’t lived it, but it felt incredibly relatable to me and probably to a lot of other queer viewers (even though we eventually figure out Ben’s a terrible person).
I also thought that it was just a rule of competitive sports that when someone gets injured, you're not allowed to go to them. You're supposed to stay away so medical staff can get to them quickly.
AHHHH YES FINALLY, I absolutely adore everyone's friendships and relationship dynamics🥺😭 (EXCEPT FOR BEN AND HARRY FRICK YOU GUYS, YA'LL KNOW WHAT YA'LL DID)
fun fact: the actor who plays ben got multiple videos taken down on tiktok for bullying his own character, and loves to be known as the captain of the ben hope hate club
As an older Millennial (34) the "Am I gay" quizzes at the dawn of the internet were SUCH a thing. Love this show, and wish we could have had something growing up like this.
This show is everything, I love that they actually bring up the topics instead of just hinting at stuff and all the things tackled are just so comforting. I love that we’re getting a proper LGBTQIA teen show that feels more realistic and not so dramatised, also love the diversity Another great show is Young Royals, it’s a bit more dramatic but honestly another great European show Also I literally cried every single episode of Heartstopper, it was almost concerning, Nick and his mum (Olivia Colman the legend) are just the cutest, I love how she reacts to Nick‘s coming out. Nick is literally the best, such a golden retriever Also love the cast, they’re so fun irl
im so in love with them 😭 they're so positively enthralled by each other and its so sweet. (also you comparing nick taking the am i gay quiz to riley from degrassi searching up how not be gay is so real and i love that for you)
This show feels like a warm blanket that I wish I had when I started questioning my sexuality back in middle school; I'm genuinely so happy the younger generation is going to grow up having actual good lgbtq+ representation. ESPETIALLY, for me at least, bisexual representation!! I feel like I saw a truly accurate and honest depiction of bisexuality and its awakening and acceptance for the first time (which is kinda sad that it's the first time I feel represented but also thank god it's finally here, it feels so good), that isn't simplified or considered easier cause it's still "half het" or some bullshit or sexualised or just an instant no problem, acceptance and not freaking out like any member of the community! Sorry, I'm not even sure that made any sense and i really rambled on for quite a while but I just love this show so much and it genuinely means so freaking much to me😅
Thank you for acknowledging First Kill being cancelled... Fuck Netflix! Also, ashley, soccer is played with the feet (that's why it's called football literally everywhere else) and rugby is like american football but you can only throw the ball back or something like that. But yeah, they are very different sports :)
B i t c h!! I CRIED the entire show like a baby 😭 I was having a MOMENT and definitely felt akin to you when you are clearly into a series. 😂 I was like damn mother Ashley would be so proud. 🥲 so glad you are finally getting to watching this!!! I definitely agree with you about it feeling scaled to a younger demo but it still very much hit my heart. It gave me that feeling of being that age again- the angst, the uncertainty, the FEELS were all there. I was Charlie in middle/high school. I love this series and am impatiently waiting for season 2!
13:03 can we take a minute to talk about this absolute nightmare of a school, where you can't even look outside of the window in peace when you're bored or done with your tasks?! Damn.
I was the same, thinking it might be to young for me, but then I thought I went through the same stuff as a kid with the questioning who I was so it was nice to relate to my younger self. Also it was nice to have a queer show that is just sweet and cute and wholesome rather than tragic and devastating for once.
Lol @ 14:32 Ash says that’s a ‘cute little house’ when in England that’s quite a decent sized house - my first thought was ‘damn, Nick’s mum must earn a fair bit’. But I know compared to house sizes in America it probably looks small.
Ashley, my love, I have an underrated request from the gays. Motherland: Fort Salem - It has lesbians - It has witches - It has women in the dominant positions of their society (innuendo unintended) without it being all "man hatey" - It has an incredibly interesting and original plot, magic system, and other concepts - Strong female characters (obviously) - Found family and female friendships that fate: Winx saga wishes it was It's like a history rewrite of if the witches of the Salem trials made a deal to save their lives in exchange for their military service. I'm not doing it ANY service but I love it SO much. And even if Ashley isn't interested I hope this has piqued anyone else's interest. Edit: Epic Trailer ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6EtJurKMjJY.html I don't know if it entirely fits your preferred video material, but I'd really like to see your reaction to it.
And it got canceled after three seasons when it deserves more. The lesbians spend too much time apart. The last two episodes of season three those episodes suck in my opinion.
