Great vid. I've been looking for a good (not too basic ) art / picture printer for my dad. The basic office / home printers don't meet his needs anymore. He wanted something with good print quality , but not the associated price and difficulty of use of professional printers ( yet). Some research has led me to this model multiple times. A lot of the RU-vid reviews are focused too much on the technical aspects. They didnt highlight the real world print potential of this model. Your videos are relatable , answered my questions and the print examples finished convincing me to pull the trigger. Dad's getting a new printer and you're getting a new subscriber. Thanks!!

The foller marks mentioned by others were mechanical and they were appeared when the thicker paper were used. The printer is amazing and with paper of regular yhickness it will not leave the roller matks . Just exactly as you clearly showed. Thank you for your work !

I have an ET-7750 and I had an X-Rite’s i1 Software professionally made profile for both my 24" Ilford Galarie 310gms and Colourbyte 250gms glossy paper. The results are excellent and the B+Ws are neutral. Even using cheaper glossy paper the results are really very good. I use it for A3 plain paper drawings mostly and occasionally 600mm x 297mm panorama prints. I'm very pleased with it. (I do though, regularly dab the print head resting pad with soft tissue paper to prevent smudges.) I also keep it completely covered all the time with a thin clear polythene sheet including the rear paper tray with A3 paper init, this keeps the dust out. I've had it about 5+ years and it's still producing excellent result, I use it a lot, I'm on my second set of ink bottles and third service tank. I can't recommend this printer highly enough. I repeat... It's well worth getting your printer profiled as it really does make so much difference even though it is not a photo printer especially for the B+W prints.

This is a fantastic ink tank idea, and probably the only new printer type I would consider. I just wish this exact same line was available in some of the larger size printers like 17 or 20 or 24-in wide. I will just never ever again buy a printer with chipped cartridges. Extra large cartridges maybe. And Epson if you are listening I will happily buy your Epson branded ink and paper on this because of the large size and the tank system, and do a lot more printing. I have been dutifully refilling my old r2880 13x19, for many years now, but even with refillable carts and a chip resetter and Cone color ink, the cart capacity is so small that it constantly needs one color or the other. It's not even the expense I mind but just the constant hassle and constant cleaning because I just don't use it everyday. I think the industry looses a lot of enthusiasts who get completely turned off on color inkjets because of the hassle of these ink cartridge things. Please people vote with your wallets and go the ink tank route.
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 Год назад
I also have that wish. But think about it. Who would buy a large format pigment printer still using chipped ink carts is there were similar capacity Eco Tank versions. It will never happen.

I just bought the et-8550 printer. The prints that you showed are stunning as to the Blacks as well as the color. I can't believe that using the precision ink could look any better I will see, would like to see the same prints printed with the pigment Preston colors inks. If you decide to go that way. I would probably refill the bottles and not try to use the syringe. It will make refiling inks much easier.

Off topic a little but, When purchasing some OEM inks for the Pro 100, I picked up some Canon Fine Art Smooth as it was on sale. No ICC profile. I picked another profile (can't remember which= awhile ago) & did all right. Anyway, called Canon no profile for the paper/printer combo. So I ask the tech if the paper is for pigment inks only papers. He said there is a profile for the paper for use with the Pro 1000 but not the Pro10. HMMM! I ask why & he says I'd have to ask someone from Canon, in Japan. Maybe it's the black ink as you mention toward the beginning of the vid. Thanks & great results from that ET printer.

Hello and thanks for that great video! I purchased my ET8550 last fall, and placed the dye inks it came with, in the printer before realizing that pigment inks would have been better for the art prints I hope to print with the new printer. I've read it's not easy or even a good idea to switch the printer ink over to pigment after running it with dye inks. Do you know what kind of color longevity my art prints will have with the Epson dye inks my printer has in it? Thanks so much for any feedback!

I have to say I have not had any roller marks from any of my many printers. Remember that real roller marks are the width of the actual rollers. If you are getting lines made up of little dots those are caused by the little star snapped wheels. Happens on some papers.

Evening Jose, first of all I love your channel and the info you provided Thank you. I am looking at a new Epson Photo printer, I currently have a Epson Stylus 1400 and it has served me well. But it's time for me to upgrade and I prefer to stay with a dye ink printer, so that rules out the P700. How would you compare the print quality of the ET-8550 and the Epson XP-15000. I like the cost saving of the tank printer but I'm concerned about the limited color palate compared to the XP. Just from a pure print quality stand point which do you see as being better. I do a lot of landscapes, buildings and some wildlife photography. I occasional do a black and white but not very often at all and I can accept less than perfect BW. The ET-8550 is a new technology which I wouldn't mid exploring and the ink tanks appear to very cost effective but I am more interested in which printer will give me the best prints I can make. My preferred papers are Luster, semi-gloss and gloss in that order. Thank you so much for your excellent reviews. Take care and God Bless

I'm also a Pro 10 user. I think the increased DRM on the 300 means the 8550 is a no brainer. Sure there's some minor print differences since the Canon has more inks (and I have a stockpile of Canon paper), but it's not worth trying to wait for workarounds or weighing cartridges again.

I bought this printer and the first 4 test photo prints had “pizza knife” marks right across each of them. The paper was Kodak premium high gloss paper - 240 gsm. Retailer said it was due to using non Epson paper. Ordered genuine Epson paper - can’t get any. That was the beginning and end of my printing experience with the Epson 8550. Oh by the way - that is a $1200 printer in Australia. Bad experience indeed. The Epson warranty contact was useless to say the least. Had to go back to the retailer to get any sense out of them. Still waiting for genuine Epson photo paper to make an appearance. Very frustrating indeed.

Anyone know of recyclable photo paper? I'm in the UK and would like to start printing at home - the Epson 8550 looks a great fit - but am uneasy about the waste if I can't recycle the paper from prints I decide not to keep. I've found that HP offers a glossy A4 and A3 recyclable photo paper, and I'd rather have other papers too, besides glossy. Many thanks!

There is only one problem I have encountered using the ET 8550 in the last two months since I bought it here in Australia. That is when I cut 585mm off a 329mm (13" roll) wide roll of photo paper. (The 585mm x 329mm [width] allows a 16:9 ratio photo to be printed) Once cut off it will not flatten normally so you have to roll it up the opposite way to which it came off the roll. But how long do you leave the rubber bands on for before you want to use it on the printer? If you leave the bands on too long then you have to do the reverse again to try and get it flat. Very difficult. Anyway, using the normal top feeder the 585mm length goes in very well but at the very end I have had at least a couple of pieces of paper be hit by the print head at the end of the 585mm. yes, it marks the paper with some black marks at the two left and right edges/corners. One print stopped printing for about 20mm so I had to cut that off the print to be able to use the rest of the print. So, it is very difficult to know when the cut off roll paper is flat enough to print. Yes, I know there is a roll holder but at the moment that is about another AU$300 and you still have to cut it with scissors after the printing is done. And just in case some may be wondering - yes, a 585mmx329mm photo when framed looks fantastic! Even mine! Thanks Jose for all your help and advice!

I get the magenta over the top of other colors or anything that has a brown, or tan tint. I am trying to print ephemera that I have downloaded. I followed your older video and the other info you provided. My print preview is turned off on the printer so that didn't help. Also, I run a test print and it comes out perfect. When I am copying with the scanner the colors are perfect. I'm not a techi and don't understand a lot of the technical wording. I installed it fine and expected it to work without problems. All the other printers I have had have not had this problem. I have spent days on trying to research and fix this problem. Epson is useless getting help Can you please help me fix this. I am so discouraged. I bought this printer because of the longevity of the ink tanks. I have been copying hundreds of sheets and hardly used any ink in less than a month. But 700 $ to just copy and not be able to print photos or anything else without it being pink is ridiculous...all the previous aids showed picture guides that are not anything like the 8550 so not helpful.
