I found so many bargains at this sale. You won't believe how much money I saved! See how I transform my new dressage saddle here! • Saddle RESTORATION~ Ho...
I like, that you not only comment the price and value during the video. The whole haul with writing really got the number across. Thanks for puting in the extra effort.
Please show some of the boots and saddles after you clean them up. Also, could you do a video showing some of what you learned about custom built saddles? I’d love to learn more. Great video!
The Santa Barbara spade and snaffle bits are collectable especially the Garcia maker, but you more likely than not already know that. I used to do the same thing after thrift shopping, add up the full retail prices to see how good of a deal that I got. This was a fun video!
Really impressed with your knowledge about your purchases. You really have the right idea on how to make money for yourself and still save the buyer money!
A while ago, I bought a used leather saddle that had some areas that were squished from being stored wrong. I found out if you place a damp cloth on the leather and then hold a hot iron on it you can get the leather to straighten out. It might work for your dressage saddle.
Exactly. Moisture swells and or relaxes, just not too much. Start with a fine mist spray and literally drops of water. Just like if you have a wrinkled shirt but no iron just put the shirt on a hanger and fine mist it and without stretching it out of shape you can gently pull the wrinkles out and then just it air dry.
What do they stuff those rolls with? Perhaps you could locate a shoe or tack store to open it up, re-stuff, sew shut for a reasonable price. Curious what stuffed with. Foam? Feathers or down? Woolen fabric? Scrap leather?
Clever Cowgirl… for me this video proves exactly why your video channel name IS Clever Cowgirl! Wow! You have to have a massive knowledge of horse tack to be able to go through a tax sale like you videod! I love it! You will make a ton of money and Skeletor will have great quality stuff. As I’ve said before I am a city girl from Chicago and I can go through a sale at a thrift store here and pick out great quality clothes. Maybe you can too..that’s why you are the Clever Cowgirl, but there’s no Wayne could go through a sale and pick out tack like you did. Yay! Saving money is always like eating dessert first😀😀😀
I think it is marked Whippy, Stegalite, London, England. I believe this company is out of business and went under Whippy; Whippy & Co. ; Whippy Steggall ; Whippy, Steggal & Co ; Whippy, Stegall, Fleming. They made saddles, harnesses , bits as well as other non equestrian related leather products. Hope this helped.
I had a very wealthy boyfriend once and he was the first person who taught me about buying second hand. I will never go back to buying brand new! Loved going shopping with you ❤
Holy #$%! you made out like a bandit at that sale! Even though the 17" saddle was too big for most horses and riders I might have snagged that too just because of its quality, that was a nice saddle. I too am a bit of a saddle snob, but my go to riding/working saddle was made for a horse my brother had in high school by a maker in AZ who is long since passed away. When I got out of the Marines I asked my brother if he still had it and he said it was in my aunt's barn and I could have it if I wanted it. Still riding in it all these years later although this year I did try out a Tucker trail saddle for some leisure rides, I don't recommend them, really comfy but very low quality for the price. On the Chicago screws if I find a headstall I really like that has those I buy it and remove the screw and the post and then put another hole in it on each side so I can run them with a blood knot. I hate Chicago screws in anything leather from holsters to headstalls they are one of the worst ideas ever.
What a great video! Having spent many wonderful years at tack sales, I so appreciate all the great bargains you discovered! I confess, when you panned around the different areas, all I could say was, wait, wait! I want to look at that again! I commend your solid experience and skill set, both in behavior-shaping, retraining, health and dietary management, and simply depth of love and determination to give every horse the best possible outcome into a new life of love and care! From an old horse gal, looking hard at 80, but still turning around to see spring pastures with a solid partner under me.
My Goodness, how did you find these great deals?? Thats the way that you find things!! I love 💕💕💕💕 your Channel and I have told people to subscribe to your Channel ☺️☺️!! Thank you for everything you do!!
Thankyou for the correct word pronounce of Dressage. Its a sidesaddle & women ride horses dressed in drop dead show dresses. I am so glad that you bargains for yourself & your horses.
I got a used English saddle back in 1990, and it was 75 years old then, and paid $75 for it. I still have it and recently cleaned and oiled it. Very nice saddle.
This video certainly brought back memories of my horse farm. It was great. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. You do a great job explaining each item that you are searching. People watching the channel who are unfamiliar with horses or equipment would understand what you are sharing. Thank you for putting forth the effort to do this.
Somewhere, I lost my genome for shopping---strangely turned into one of those shop by necessity, for exact things, get in & out nerds. (I don't do Self Check-out, so stores have to hire people I can chat with or annoy.) One exception: I love our local therapeutic riding stable's open Saturdays Tack Shack. So, I really enjoyed & learned from this vid. You've got a very respectful way of seeing, evaluating, appreciating, & releasing what isn't right for now. Plus, you're a power ranger horse ninja ACTION figure. Given what you passed up, your 'haul' was still impressive. (I laughed when you breezily referred to taking a saddle making class---naturally, it's all that spare time.) TY
"I'm a Saddle Snob" Too Funny Cowgirl! Saddle Aficionado sounds perfect!🤣You do quite well at these Bargain Sales and Auctions and probably have a mental list of what you are leaning towards but I bet there are still times you go and EVERYTHING you see is "smiling and waving" at you in hopes of being taken home!😉 All funning aside, I learn a ton listening to you explain the differences in materials used, why certain pieces are an absolute steal and when you keep it real in saying, " I can't take everything!" Great discipline in letting some things go and not grieving over it later! You Absolutely Saved Some Serious Coin on your shopping! Thank you for bringing us all along !Cheers From COW-lumbus, Ohio To The Clever Cowgirl Community!👋
Was surprised at all the various pieces of equipment needed for the horse business, and I realise this is not all, just the riding part...no trailers, etc. involved here!!! I am continually gob-smacked!!! Great video, super content! Thanks a ton!!! ❤❤❤
You are a self confessed ‘saddle snob’, does anyone else see a disconnect between your collection of fancy saddles and the sad and torn ‘saddle’ on the ATV you drive all around to do your chores everyday? Me thinks you deserve to treat yourself better….🥰🐎🐴💗🐈
PS. Nothing wrong with Australian Stock saddles. Very comfortable and excellent for stock work and the mountains. Though I think that one said Argentinian.
I love the this one !!! I bought a little jewellery box with odds and ends for 5$ and I was able to sell some of the stuff inside for 800$ . So really enjoyed this vid
I definitely would love to get some tips on your Thrifting. You’re just absolutely amazing at everything you do you’re so smart at saving money. You’re so smart at helping animals just a well-rounded human.
What exactly is a Chicago screw, how can a person tell pls? We used to buy older saddles (1940-1960) as well at tack auction, high backs, anyone sitting in it felt safe, usually only needed some saddle soap or oiled.
Chicago screws, put nail polish on the screw part and when you screw it in they stay really well. But not like if you used lock tight so you could get them undone if needed.
I’m so dumb😭 I bought and English saddle about a year ago for only 50 bucks. He had multiple other saddle for the same price. One Happened to be a wintec dressage saddle. It was in really good shape too. I should have bought it and re sold it😭
I am trying to get a hold of a very specific helmet made by Champion Helmets. The Helmet I am looking for is the "Champion Revolve X-Air MIPS Skull Cap". They make other ones with similar names but that specific one with all those words is the one I am looking to get. I also want it in black if at all possible. Dover Saddlery has it for $469.95 with free shipping but that is the only place I can find it here in the US. There are a couple things I would like to know. One do you know anywhere I can get it cheaper? If I purchased it in the UK it would run me around half that so I'd really like to find a better price and also do you know anywhere in Montana that stocks Champion helmets so I can go try them on to be sure my normal hat size of 7-1/4 (which I "think" is like 59cm) actually fits? I'd hate to spend all that money (even if you know somewhere cheaper than Dover) only to find out it doesn't fit correctly. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you! - Andy
There are two head shape types, roundish & oval. Your local Tipperary helmet dealer can fit you - & then go from there. Can also sign in to ebay UK (at least one used to be able). Good luck 👍🏼.
Do you still have the English bit with the hard-to-read stamping? I think it may be a Pelham (?) but the stamp says: Whippy STEGALITE London England. There is a different kind of bit (a vintage polo bit) on eBay right now with that same stamp.
It looked like the Ariat boots had a hole at the top of the ankle. Is that an easy repair? Also, on used boots, do you replace the insole, or do they remold to the new wearer's foot? The concept of reuse, recycle, and repurpose is huge for me, but footwear can be a tricky area for that
When you showed the brushes for grooming I saw combs. Are they only used for the manes and tails or can you use them on the horses body during shedding???
That’s cool, thank you. I found it on the property I bought here. We have a couple pre civil war outbuildings. {Wanted to move to Whitehall MT, (2016) because my mother in laws is there in Boulder. }But we ended up in Virginia because it was more land and much cheaper. It’s all original saddle, leathers been chewed by mice and stuff. I guess Lee’s army had moved right through here. The spurs are in perfect condition. Anyway keep up on the videos I love them!
