Notice that each horcrux was destroyed by a different person: Harry killed the diary. Dumbledore killed the ring. Ron killed the locket. Hermione killed the cup. Goyle killed the diadem. (In the book, it was Crabbe, but they're pretty much interchangeable.) Voldemort killed Harry. Neville killed the snake.

A lot of movies have plot twists, but the revelation about Snape is a twist that changes the entire series. If you re-watch the series from the beginning, you'll notice how often Snape (and his secret petronum, the doe) manipulate events to save Harry's life over and over without Harry realizing it. It's all hidden by the way Snape treats Harry because he doesn't actually like him at first, because his dad stole his childhood love Lilly from him, and because he knows Harry's destiny and thinks Harry isn't up to it. I'm also pretty sure that Snape suspects that his mission might result in his own death, and wanted Harry to be more mature about it.

The movies leave out a lot - even out of the "Big Reveal." We saw all along that Snape is a bully - of his students (the ones he doesn't like). The movies never showed how he told Neville during one class that his assigned potion (conteracting poisons) would be tested on Neville's familiar, Trevor. Also, James didn't "steal" Lilly; Snape lost her all by himself when he called her a Mudblood. She just couldn't forgive that. In the reveal, Snape says "Hide them all" but when the conversation started, he wanted Dumbledore to hide Lilly - ONLY. It was only after being chastized that he changed to "hide them all." He was negotiating, but he'd already shown that he wouldn't care if James and Harry died. Then there is the omission from "Don't tell me you've come to care for the boy?" Snape's first response, in his inimical tone, was "The boy?" He might as well have said "Are you frickin' crazy?" I can go as far as agreeing with Harry that Snape was - or at least could have been - the bravest man Harry had ever known. His double-agent life was difficult and dangerous, and although he wanted to quit (and said so, just before Dumbledore and Harry went after the locket) he didn't do so. He stuck it out, and that definitely took courage. But day to day? Snape was, frequently, a dick.

@@i.marchand4655 Interesting I never read the books and after the legilimens scene in Order of the Phoenix, I had always been curious to know more of the details of what transpired during the school years of James (and his friends), and Lily and Snape I wondered how Lily and Snape could drift apart by so much when they seemed to have been very close before Hogwarts? It makes a little more sense to me with what u said But more than that, I was curious about how Lily and James fell in love Do the books cover these things aswell?

The issue I've always had with Snape: He was the reason Voldermort started hunting the Potters in the first place, because he overheard the profecy and ran to his master to tell him, of course without knowing it was about the Potters. When he realized he fucked up, as someone already stated here, he asked for Dumbledore's protection, but only for Lily, at which point in the books Dumbledore told him "You disgust me" and was literally about to kill him. He didn't care about Harry or James, they could have died on the spot and he wouldn't have given a damn about it. Wanting someone so desperately that you are willing to let her loved ones die a horrible death, because you only see them as an inconvenience, is just... sick. Then, after all of that, knowing he was the main reason Harry was an orphan, instead of trying his best to make up for it, he proceeded to bully him as much as he was able to, abusing his power as a teacher at every given occasion and trying his best to make his life miserable, out of sheer envy and spite for his father, as if he needed even more payback then causing his murder (and for everyone who didn't read the books, it's insane how much more he bullied him in the books compared to the movies, to the point that your blood literally boils while reading). So, no, for me that's not a hero. A great character? Yes. A brave one? Absolutely. But not a hero. Dumbledore made mistakes (a lot of them), so self aware of the immense power he had and so arrogant about it that he was actually turning bad, but indirectly causing his sister's death with Grindelwald made him realize his mistakes, that he wasn't fit for power, and chose to step down, devoting his whole life to the improvement of others, and ultimately gave his life for it. That's a hero.

@@stespin I agree with everything, I just don't like how everyone takes responsibility away from the dumbledore do you realize that the dumbledore knew that one of his teachers bullied the kids and did absolutely nothing right? he is as guilty of the bullying as snape after all he had power to make snape stop but he never did anything. What leads to the discussion was it all snape or was it also the plan to work out after all many of the students were children of death eaters and voldemort was going to come back imagine how voldemort would be if snape treated herry well? would voldemort trust in it? of course it's not an excuse it's just a discussion.and about hero i believe it depends on your definition of hero if u believe a hero is one who is kind and nice yes snape is not a hero, for me a hero is one who puts the news needs of many in front of his own and well snape did that, he was a spy for 20 years, he never loved anyone, he became a teacher something he hated and in the end he died fighting voldemort, for me everyone who died in war are heroes, in real life many war heroes were not exemplary people but are still treated as heroes because they sacrificed themselves for the greater good, so snape would be a realistic hero not a comic book hero.and sorry, maybe it's a translation where did you read that dumbledore was about to kill snape? at no point is an idea given that dumbledore would kill snape, and about that same scene, when snape says that he asked voldemort to spare only lilian dumbledore looks at him in disgust and snape cringes in embarrassment and then begs dumbledore to protect everyone.and finally this part of snape's guilt is something I always like to discuss, if snape hadn't told what guarantees that voldemort wouldn't find out otherwise? and if he didn't find out how the prophecy was going to come true after all the prophecy says the lord Darkness will mark him as his equal and for Voldemort to do that before he has to know about the prophecy, if snape hadn't begged for lilian voldemort wouldn't have given her the chance to live and what stopped harry's protection was lilian having had the choice to stay alive and choose to die, no snape begging voldemort doesn't give the choice no choice protection doesn't exist without protection harry dies with harry dead voldemort wins the war so it's interesting snape is to blame for harry's parents dying but no snape and without the death of harry's parents voldemort wins which results in the death of harry's parents even so, it's a difficult discussion, because snape is responsible for the death of harry's parents (one of them after all if rabicho hadn't told potters they would be alive , so for me it's much more the fault of Wormtail's betrayal than anything else, but Snape still has his share of blame) but at the same time that he is responsible for the death of harry's parents, harry only survives voldemort because of him also after all if he had not told the prophecy, the prophecy would not have come true and harry would have no protection, so if you pay attention everything in harry potter starts with snape and runs because of snape, the biggest culprit for the downfall of voldemort both times it was snape himself, without snape there was no way to beat voldemort

Dumbledore opened his eyes. Snape looked horrified. "You have kept him alive so that he can die at the right moment?" "Don't be shocked severus, how many men and women have you watched die?" "Lately, only those whom I could not save," said snape. He stood up. "You have used me." "Meaning?" "I have spied for you and lied for you, put myself in mortal danger for you. Everything was supposed to be to keep Lily Potter's son safe. Now you tell me you have been raising him like a pig for slaughter...." "But this is touching severus," said Dumbledore seriously. "Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?" "For him?" Shouted snape. "Expecto Patronum!" From the tip of his wand burst the silver doe: She landed on the office floor, bounded once across the office, and soared out of the window. Dumbledore watched her fly away, and as her silvery glow faded he turned back to snape, and his eyes were full of tears. "After all this time?" "Always," said snape.

When Dumbledore says "don't tell me that you've grown to care for the boy", he wasn't implying that *he* did not care for Harry. He was saying, "Severus, all these years you've hated Harry, and now you care about him?". The line was delivered weird, because every single reactor I've ever seen has been confused by this line.

I’m confused by your wording a bit. I’d love to discuss it since Snape is such an amazing, conflicted, and enigmatic character for the entire series. It seems your requote would make the situation even more emotional if Snape actually hated Harry rather than seeming neutral like the question Dumbledore asked. I don’t think Snape hated Harry like you mentioned, since that would be difficult to justify starting from movie 1. It seems he took a neutral approach, perhaps even more as a silent guardian, but did so out of his undying love for Lily. The theory about his first question in Potions class being a cryptic message to mean he regrets Lily’s death is an interesting one. I think the fact Snape merely answered Dumbledore by casting a Doe Patronus over a Stag confirms Snape held a constant position from the start. He might’ve been particularly tough and stern to Harry, and might’ve been mild revenge from the bullying James did to him, but it seems his love of Lily outweighed his hatred of James. He certainly battled it, but it seems his love was always the dominating quality over his hatred when it came to Harry.

@@tobiasreiper371 complements my point very well lol. Clearly there was never any hatred for Harry, but it still remains entirely related to Lily, since he did everything to keep “Lily Potter’s son safe” instead of “Harry safe”. It seems he’s even admitting that he’s always cared for him indirectly-it’s not that he cared for him personally, but cared for Lily so much that he did it to keep her memory alive.

When you first start reading the books, dumbledore is your typical good guy and snape the typical bad guy. Toward the end, you realize that dumbledore could have easily turned into another dark wizard and how similar he was to grindelwald or even lord voldemort when he was younger. That he, just like voldemort and grindelwald, wanted to conquer death. That he too, wanted wizards to rule over muggles for "the greater good". You realize how selfish dumbledore can be and how vulnerable he is, toward power. That is mainly why he avoided becoming the minister for magic. Dumbledore was very wise and very smart. He knew his weaknesses and stregnths very well and really tried to be a good person and do good. He made some mistakes in the past but learned from them and became the wise and loving man that we all know. Snape on the other hand, became more and more relatable as we got closer to the end. In the beginning, snape was a bully. He would constantly pick on harry during classes and try to make him as miserble as possible. He would take every opportunity to humiliate harry in front of the whole class and has even hurt hermione multiple times, making her cry. He had no empathy and did not care about anyone else's feelings. Yet toward the end, we start to understand him. He was a victim of abuse since childhood. Had an abusive father, got bullied at school and was hated by many students. The only thing that brought a smile to his face, was spending time with lily but he lost his shot with her and lily stopped being friends with him. And then years later when he brought a part of the prophecy to voldemort, he could not imagine that voldemort would go after lily and her son. Snape had to live with the guilt and despite hating harry, decided to protect him at all costs. He remained loyal to his love, until the very end and showed immeasurable bravery. It's impossible to see these characters through a black and white filter. Both characters had good and bad traits that made them extremely well written characters. Even voldemort who was completely a villain, was understandable. His father was a muggle, his mother a witch who was in love with the selfish, yet extremely handsome Tom Riddle. She gave him love potion and forced him to be with her. Voldemort was the fruit of such rotten relationship. His mother stopped giving his father love potions and he left both of them. Voldemort's mother died before she could see him. He was incapable of love, because he had never experienced love. His father did not love his mother, but actually was a slave to the love potion; he never saw his mother and never experienced a mother's love. Grew up in an orphanage and learned that he was able to do things. He was a psychopath who was incapable of understanding love, because nobody ever loved him.

Harry’s dad was definitely worse to Snape. But something the movies don’t get into was how their childhood rivalry was not as one-sided as Snape’s memories would imply. Snape also ended up saying some very hurtful things to Lily in school, thus solidifying her choice of being with James Potter. Also, people change, and James became a much kinder person in his adulthood, thanks in no small part to Lily, who probably called him out on his shit, and showed him a more compassionate way of being.

@@stefsolari i doubt you write me the truth is the books, not the movies. James was spoiled rotten by his family. Like the Dursleys do Dudley. So James grew up spoiled and popular because he was really good at magic. He became cocky, and that. But in the books Sirius tells Harry, James grew out of it once he and Sirius got head deflated. Their egos slowed. But Snape wasnt innocent either. He and James hated each other same as Draco and Harry how odd 2 different eras clash? But in this case Harry grew up in a terrible life, not spoiled like Dudley thus breaking the chain. He learned from Dudley who in the books made amends with Harry said he is sorry and endup Dudley and his kids had Christmas with Harry and his kids. But James secretly loved Lily. But he was too cocky. He knew she liked Snape. But when SNape became a Slytherin and James Gryiffindor Snape got into the dark arts. Which irrated Lily. When Snape was bullied he called her a filithy mudblood just like Draco did Hermione. Again how each clash two different time periods? That ended their friendship. Hurt broken Snape who was already showing signs of Dark arts and Voldermort, choosed Voldermort he watched many die. But when Lily was in danger. Snape didnt care at all for Harry or James well being. He wanted them dead . Until Dumbledore said Harry has her eyes. Then Snape changed his tone said save them all. Then, when he saw LIly dead. His heart broke the only female he loved that he ruined his chance laid dead. But instead of change himself he punished Neville for it could of been Neville with the burden so he targeted Neville and that ruined his life. The difference was i heard that James was gonna make amends with Snape because of Lily. They each had jinxed each other it wasnt just one side that is 1 persons memory. Takes 2 to tango. Snape was always a death eater but he loved Lily. IT was only then he did all he did because for her. Not really Harry. For her. So Snape like JK said isnt really a full Hero. He did it for Lily . No one else .

According to Alan Rickman, he was the only one who knew about Snape after he had a conversation with JKRowling. Always was sort of his catch phrase for what he knew. Unfortunately, while Snape always loved Lily, he did several pretty unforgivable things when they were at Hogwart's, including using the term mudblood at one point. She didn't live long enough to learn his truth.

It was the reason she became close to James. James constantly bullied Snape in front of Lily, and one time James made a joke about her being around him that they were cute as couple (I’m paraphrasing) and Snape basically said he’d never be caught dead with a mudblood. It was then she decided not to talk to Snape again and started dating James.

Trust me, Dumbledore used the ONLY strategy available to dispose of Voldemort, based on Voldemort's own mistakes and vanity. So you can thank Voldemort for that, it's not Dumbledore's fault. If anything, Dumbeldore was the only one wise enought to piece it together. Voldemort created his own archnemesis by trying to prevent its very existence in the first place, a predestination paradox if you will, that's what most prophecies are, after all, they are selffulfilling. The forest scene with Harry's loved ones is also a great tear jerker in the book beautifully written. Lilly came to dislike Snape because he was hanging with the Slytherin bullies who later became Death Eaters... A Horcrux placed into a living thing will use that living being's own survival instincts plus its magic to defend itself, however if the host CHOSES not to defend themselves, the Horcrux will take full damage, hence why it is not advised to give that part of your soul to the safeguard of a living being that has potentially their own agenda... Remember that Voldemort used Harry's blood to regenerate a body for himself... that blood is protected by Lilly's sacrifice. So as long as some of this blood lives, Harry can stay alive, by taking Harry"s blood as a component, Voldemort was... Harry's life insurance of sorts, despite acknowledging that love was a key to ancient magic he didn't push the study further and his hubris took over, as per usual with him. Vanity ultimately kills him in the end, not even Harry. They didn't check because they had no reason not to believe Narcissa's word. And also that's what happens in a cult, everything is taken for granted.

It's disappointing that the movie did not explain any of this to the audience. A lot of people who haven't read the books, think that it was because of the resurrection stone that harry was able to return. They do not understand that the moral of three brothers tale, is that any attempt to conquer death, is a foolish act and it just leads you to your own death. The stone, was unable to actually bring back the dead; that is why the second brother took his own life so that he can be with the girl he once loved. Dumbledore gave the stone to harry and made sure harry could only have it if he knew that he had to die. Dumbledore knew that the stone would cause you to commit suicide, that's exactly how he himself got cursed in the first place; and that is why he gave the stone to harry. The stone made it easier for harry to surrender to voldemort and not even defend himself against the killing curse.

In the book, Voldemort subjects Harry to the Cruciatus Curse to prove his death. Draco's mom feels Harry's heartbeat and realizes Harry is still alive. Harry feels nothing because he willingly sacrificed himself for the others. That sacrifice, like his mom for him, covers everyone at the school. From that point, Voldemort's curses had no effect on anyone. Also, in the book, Harry uses the Elder Wand to mend his own before getting rid of the Elder Wand.

The details that did not make the movie: Severus Snape and Lily (Evans) were friends since childhood... Snape was the one who revealed to Lily that she had magical powers, and Lily's sister (Harry's aunt) Petunia was jealous and resentful, but she was afraid of Snape. When Snape and Lily enrolled at Hogwarts together, Snape wanted to join Slytherin House... but Lily was placed in Gryffindor House w/ James Potter, who became a bully and antagonist of Snape while he was a student... It didn't help that Slytherin and Gryffindor Houses were always at odds. Snape still loved Lily and they were friends until Snape started hanging w/ students who were followers of Voldemort... Snape's obsession w/ dark magic started to make a rift between him and Lily. After a particularly brutal bullying incident at Hogwarts w/ James Potter, Lily tried to defend Snape... but he was angry and called her "mudblood", which upset her. That night, Snape begged Lily to forgive him, but Lily was truly upset w/ him... She had begged him not to hang out w/ the Voldemort supporting students and he had refused... She finally told Snape that he had made his choices, so she had made hers... Snape was upset when Lily began dating James Potter in their final year at Hogwarts... After they graduated, Snape went off to become a death eater for Voldemort... Lily and James married soon after. Sometime later, Prof Trelawny (Hogwarts' divinations teacher) made a prophecy that the challenge to the dark Lord (Voldemort) would come from a boy "born at the end of July"... Snape gave the gist of the prophecy to Voldemort. He was horrified when Voldemort concluded that the boy referred to was James and Lily Potter's newborn son Harry. Snape begged Voldemort to spare Lily's life because he still loved her... but Voldemort refused (Voldemort assumed that Snape simply 'desired' Lily for himself). Severus Snape went to Albus Dumbledore and begged him to protect the Potters and pledged his loyalty to the Hogwarts' Headmaster and his 'Order of the Phoenix'... Snape essentially became a spy for Dumbledore. Of course, we now know that it was Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail) who betrayed the Potter family's hidden location to Voldemort... James and Lily Potter were killed by Voldemort in the home at Godric's Hollow, but Lily had cast a protection spell over Harry which was activated by her death and it vanquished Voldemort after his death curse rebounded. With no surviving family, baby Harry Potter was given to the custody of Lily's older sister Petunia and her husband Vernon Dursley, to keep him hidden and protected from death eaters. Meanwhile, Severus Snape was devastated by Lily's death and Albus Dumbledore asked him to help protect Harry if Voldemort would return... Snape agreed, but only if his past w/ Lily be kept secret. As a result, Dumbledore protected Snape from the Ministry of Magic from being sent to Azkaban... he employed him at Hogwarts as a potions master. When Harry Potter enrolled at Hogwarts, Severus Snape did not want Lily's son to make the same mistakes that James Potter did... he was still upset w/ James Potter for the bullying he had endured and blamed James for being unable to protect Lily... He was tough on Harry because he did not want him to make the same mistakes as his father, but it was tough on Snape because Harry looked so much like his father James. Albus Dumbledore had lost his sister Ariana, w/ his obsession w/ the Deathly Hallows... When he found Tom Riddle's ring (the 2nd Horcrux), it had the Resurrection stone on it. Desperate to speak to his late sister Ariana to apologize for her death, Albus Dumbledore put on the ring to use the stone... but it had been cursed by Voldemort and it nearly killed Dumbledore. Only Severus Snape's intervention saved his life... but Snape also gave Dumbledore a grave analysis - the curse was in his hand and would eventually kill him painfully over a year's time. Knowing that he would not live to see the end of Voldemort, Albus Dumbledore gave orders to Snape to kill him and prove his loyalty to Voldemort... he destroyed the Horcrux ring using the Sword of Gryffindor and cut the Resurrection stone from it. Dumbledore placed the stone in Harry's golden snitch, which he would pass on to him after his death. Snape was entrusted w/ the real sword of Gryffindor, and he used his doe patronus charm to pass it on to Harry Potter when he located him near the frozen river... Earlier, it was Snape who made Mundungus Fletcher suggest to the Order of the Phoenix that decoys of Harry Potter be used w/ polyjuice potion to transport him to safety... There was a scene where Snape was crying after reading one of the last letters that Lily had written to him before she died.

One of the more interesting plot twists in the later books is that Harry gains the ability to see into Voldemort's mind without Voldy apparently knowing it. So Harry gets a front-row seat on Voldemort's search for the Elder Wand and his panic when he finds out Harry is destroying the horcruxes. Meanwhile, for some reason Voldemort either gives up trying to see into or plant thoughts into Harry's head (which he could do in the Order of the Phoenix). The series never explains how Harry is able to flip the script on Voldy in this way. It may be that Harry's success at the end of Order of the Phoenix in driving out Voldemort's possession meant that he had learned occlumency. Maybe Voldemort could not stand to mess with a mind so full of love and friendship. Either way, Harry finally did learn to keep Voldemort out of his mind -- a final compliment to what Snape had been trying to teach him.

Yeah, everyone's reaction to Dumbledore saying, "Don't tell me now, you've grown to care for the boy", didn't imply Dumbledore didn't care for Harry. Snape just disliked that Harry reminded him so much of his bully Dad, that it's hard to believe he would care for Harry. Making that revelation in the memory scenes so impactful, because he basically states that he does, and we've always wanted to see some kind of approval from Snape to Harry. It's a movie; art. Left open for interpretation from all angles.

Lily didn't love Snape; she loved James. Snape loved her so much that his patronus became what it was, not because he and Lily were soulmates or in love. It's interesting, because Snape essentially joined the wizard Nazi's and was fine with that until he was personally impacted (Lily being threatened) but never came to a conclusion beforehand that Lily's (and everyone like her, everyone she loved) life would always be at risk in a world where voldemort existed.

Not sure if it's already been in the comments, so I may repeat what others have already told. It's quite a known story. Alan Rickman, the actor who plays Snape, is a fantastic actor. Probably the only one, who can be called a star at the beginning of Harry Potter series (Harry, Rony, and Hermione are going to become very popular because of these movies). And somewhere at the time of movie 2 or movie 3, don't recall exactly, Rickman decides that this movie is not for him. He thinks his role is too simple, one-sided and not worth it. Therefore, he decides to leave. Now, keep in mind that actors do not know all of the story yet. Final books have not been released and the only person who knows how Harry Potter story will end is J. Rowling, the author of these books. And Rowling liked Rickman in Snape's role a lot. So when she hears about him leaving, she calls him and pays him a visit. They spend some time together and she reveals to him all Snape's story, how it is going to end. Finally, Rickman is convinced, he stays in the movie and plays Snape's role till the end, perfectly.

Yeah, I think the awkward Ron/Harry goodbye is either because their relationship never gets that vulnerable or because the screenwriter for a lot of the HP movies was notorious for giving Hermonie a lot of other character's lines from the books. So, I can definitely see the book being a little more even in the emotional response to this goodbye but the screenwriter may have just given it to Hermonie.

In the end Harry had the resurrection stone and the invisibility cloak, and even though voldy used the elder wand to kill him, Harry was actually its true master, and a wand is uninclined to kill its own master, which makes Harry the master of all three deathly hallows at the same time, and thus the master of death. Also voldy killed the part of his own soul that resided in Harry rather than Harry himself. This is why Harry was able to survive. This is just speculations, but I also think Harry couldnt fight back because doing so, playing defense rather than trusting the wand, might actually in some ways forfeit control of the wand to voldemort, as a victor in battle.

The Deathly Hallows can make "One Master of Death". Dumbledore and his friend Grindelwald were obsessed with finding them when they were young. Grindelwald stole the Elder Wand from Gregorovich, the wand maker, but then he turned evil, and Dumbledore was forced to defeat him. Thus he acquired the Elder Wand. But his sister was killed as a result of the duel, so Dumbledore abandoned his quest for power, and the Hallows. Years later, he discovered that James, Harry's father, had inherited the true Cloak of Invisibility. He was thrilled to have found another of the Hallows, so he asked to borrow it for study. It was in his possession when James and Lily were killed. He blamed himself, since they could possibly have used the Cloak to hide from Voldemort. So he kept it, unused, until Harry was of age, then passed it to him. Finally, during his search for the horcruxes, he discovered the ring with the Stone in the shack Voldemort's mother had lived in. Thinking he could use the Stone to summon up the spirit of his dead sister, he put on the ring, but by doing so the horcrux cursed him to death. Severus was able to contain the curse temporarily, but his days were numbered. Realizing he would never be worthy of the Hallows, Dumbledore took pains to ensure Voldemort would never have them. He knew Harry had the Cloak, he hid the Stone in the snitch and left it to Harry, then he arranged for Severus to kill him, so the Elder Wand would pass to a new, unwitting owner. He could take it to his grave, where it's power would be forgotten. Voldemort figured that part out, but Draco interfering was not part of the plan. So the Wand would end up as Harry's as well. But in the end, Harry never had them all at the same time, so the sidequest for the Hallows was just a tease. It ties together a nice bit of backstory, though.

woahhhh, that's brilliant As a non-book reader (weird to say, makes me sound like I never read any books), I never knew Albus was the one who gifted Harry the cloak of invisibility I also never knew what happened with the ring horcrux, that's wild Tom Riddle does his name justice ngl Putting a curse of death on a ring with the resurrection stone is like some 4d chess move, wow I'd read in another comment that Rowena Ravenclaw's diadem was rumored to bestow wisdom upon the wearer, and all the complications with Helena It makes me wonder if Tom had ever made use of the diadem or if he had just developed his intellect naturally It feels weird to give props to Voldy, but he kinda sounds like he was the epitome of Slytherin I probably should continue watching the Fantastic Beast trilogy cuz I wasn't aware exactly of the whole Dumbledore past, along with where Grindelwald fit into it It's unfortunate for Albus that the Deathly Hallows he'd seemingly yearned for in his youth would end up haunting him all his life

In the books, it's explained that is not unheard of family members having patronuses that "go together" within a same category (farm animals, birds species, etc). It is also fairly common that if something deeply affects you your Patronus may change: to reflect the things or people that brings you the most happiness... Which are, after all, the very substance they are made of. Memories. So it's not rare for happy old couples to end up having complementing animals as patronuses, as they are each other's greatest joy... It is also possible for a patronus to disappear completely when one abandons all hope. No Death Eater is able to summon a patronus except for Snape, who still finds a little ray of light in his memories of Lily. About Harry's dad... It's not completely explained, but the Potter family is a somewhat important one and quite wealthy (I mean, you have seen Harry's bank vault, it's **not** empty). They were pure bloods up to the 80's I think? And I believe that they also had a hand in potion making salves and potions to help cure muggles in the past, which made them wealthy before legally permitted relations with non-wizards became more strict to prevent the wizarding world from being exposed. Thiago was the only son of a very wealthy couple, pampered and proud, with... An upbringing not unlike Dudley's if you stop to think about it, with the exception that his parents were actually kind and well meaning as far as we know. But it was enough to make him feel a bit too "especial" for school. And Snape was the poor half blood from a disgraced family branch: no clue how to keep himself clean since they were so poor at home they probably had to use everything sparingly, always wearing second hand stuff, with a mean streak a mile wide because his father was an alcoholic that beat his mother and him for sport. Always studying so he could get a job, get our of home and take his mom with him. So he took no shit from anyone. Of course, he and Thiago mixed like nitroglycerine and fire.

Voldemort thought that Snape had killed Dumbledore, but Snape, as a double agent, did not do it on purpose, and Draco, though doubtful, did it and became the owner of the wand. Voldemort thought he had become the owner when he killed Snape, but he was mistaken and therefore lost. The owner was Draco. After all these years! The scene with memories makes you cry every time.

Not sure if you got it, seems like it confused you (it also confused me the first time I watched the movie), When Narcissa bends down to check whether Harry is alive and see that he is, she asks him if Draco is still alive. When he says he is alive she chooses to lie to Voldemoet so she could return to hogwarts as a part of a winning army and get her son, instead of invoking war again before she has a chance to get him.

I think it's wonderful to see how Voldy ultimately fell because he did not understand the power of love. He never understood the power of Lilys sacrifice. He never suspected Snape betraying him as he did not understand how much he was willing to do in the name of love. And he never felt the need to read Narcissas mind as he did not understand her motherly love for Draco could make her lie to him. So he fell just because he did not understand love.

Ever wonder how Draco is at the train station at the end and not in prison? There was a scene that explained it but it was cut at the last minute. When Harry magically came back to life and jumped out of Hagrid's arms Draco grabbed his father's wand and threw it to Harry before running back to the Hogwarts side! He got his redemption but we never got to see it! They did however rehearse the scene and the video of that can be found on the Blu Ray and probably on RU-vid somewhere. I don't know why they cut the scene but had they left it in the screams and cheers in the theater would have been earsplitting!

IMO, the final HP film is the best. And Snape's revelation is the high point.

Stef I've seen dozens of reactions to the HP movies. I''ve never gotten choked up on this one until I saw your reaction. 😭

Did anybody ever tell you that in the primitive Muggle world there exist things called handkerchieves? Very magical stuff, I assure you!!

He and Ron knew. They knew all would work out in a way no one else did. Reading books 40 years ago was the same experience... took awhile more than 3 hours per book, but the experience was just as, or more than as deep as what video might afford now.

You have some magical skills, indeed. Reading these books 40 years was pretty much impossible as first one was released only 26 years ago.
