I was in the choir for this performance. One of the best moments of my life. Some fun facts: * Jason Bonham being on drums was a surprise to EVERYONE. He had told Led Zeppelin that he had a prior commitment and couldn't make it to the ceremony, and Dave Grohl had been on drums for all the rehearsals, including the live dress rehearsal. * This broadcast version has footage from both the dress rehearsal and the final performance * Nancy Wilson is super nice in person * Stephen Colbert came up to me and some other choir members after the show to tell us we did a great job * We rehearsed every day for 2 or 3 weeks for this performance. * When only the small choir is shown, the full choir is still singing, just behind the curtains

Thanks so much for the explanation and what an amazing job you all did. I'm a choir guy myself and have seen this RU-vid video (and various reactions) dozens of times. So much to unpack, but I do think the big choir at the end sent it into the stratosphere. In fact, I teach a high school History of Rock class and show reactions to this. This was, in fact, rock and roll history and you were a part of it! Bravo!

The tears in Robert Plant's eyes followed by the smile on his face speaks volumes. There are definitely songs that are on the do not touch list, this is one of them, but this performance is one of the greatest tributes I have ever seen. Also, this song is an absolute masterpiece. Ann Wilson was 62 when she performed this and singers half her age couldn't kill this like she did.

@timtubemusic "so many people missed that." Because it wasn't really a big thing with Bonham, and only worn on stage in 1975 I believe. I might be wrong there. To be honest, a bowler hat is not the first thing I think of with John Bonham.

@beldin2987 5 месяцев назад
Which "real" band does use auto-tune ? Is this maybe just a US thing ? Else there is also nothing wrong when backing tracks are used the right way. Its in the end even mor challenging for the band because that means they have to play on point with the right speed the whole time. But of course here i also mean only "real" bands and not just some hip-hopper or whatever americans have in their mind when they make these comments. Some examples are : Lovebites "Swan Song" where the piano comes at some point from a backing track since Miyako can't really play piano and guitar at the same time, even though she can do that one handed on both instruments. Ad Infinitum on songs where Melissa uses her clear vocals over underlying growling from herself, what she of course also can't do both live. Nightwish using some orchestra tracks for example at "Ghost Love Score"
@neilpatrickhairless
@neilpatrickhairless 5 месяцев назад
Almost every band that has recorded music in the past 50 years has used pitch correction of some form or another in studio, whether they admit it or even know it or not. There are a lot of things that go into music production. As for backing tracks, yeah, Kennedy Center can afford backing vocalists for the band Heart to cover Led Zeppelin
@neilpatrickhairless
@neilpatrickhairless 5 месяцев назад
Infact, I was just sitting with a very well known mixing engineer and live sound tech not long ago watching a video on Instagram from a very well known vocalist of a very popular band (won't name names) who was ranting about backing tracks and click tracks. The engineer was like, "what is this guy talking about? we have used backing tracks live for this guy since 2002... if anyone actually heard this guy's actual singing voice, he would have never sold a single copy of an album" - the guy was ranting about personal involvement in music and doesn't even know that people are only hearing about 12% of his actual voice in a live context.
@YerpDerp17
@YerpDerp17 5 месяцев назад
@@beldin2987 This is what I think everytime I see this comment under literally every reaction video. lol Like no great singers use auto tune, it's what makes them great. There is greatness and beautiful voices in every generation. And you don't have to like them, but we can't just ignore them like they don't exist. lol You are allowed to prefer a certain time period or genre, but doesn't mean you should belittle everything else, simply because you don't prefer it, or you don't know they exist. The only genres that really use auto tune is a subgenre of hip hop and a lot of radio pop. But there are plenty of amazing voices that exist today. And to be all the way honest, I like when artist experiment with sounds. Many bands in the 60's and 70's started experiementing with the new technology. To name a couple popular out of the MANY, you have the Beatles and Pink Floyd. But the list is almost endless. Auto tune can be used by an artist, even those with a pretty voice. But there is a different in using something to achieve a specific sound or feeling, and an artist simply relying on it. I really feel bad for people who are so closed off to so much fantastic music.

They didn’t know Jason was going to be there, they’d invites him and he said he had another commitment, so it was a surprise. Robert Plant is Jason’s godfather. Jason is using his dad’s drum kit and wearing his signature bowler hat. Okay now you need to checkout Heart. I recommend starting with Magic Man, Barracuda, Crazy on You, Alone, These Dreams, really all their songs are great. BTW Ann (vocals was 62) and Nancy (guitar) is 58. There is an oft-told story that Robert Plant called Jason Bonham ( the two have always been close) and asked him if he would sit with them that night in his father's stead. Jason answered "Sorry, Uncle Bob, I have a gig that night. No way I can get out of it. Sorry." That is brought to light when Jason took the stage and pointed to Robert, which brought his grin and lil head shake. The look Jason gives his dad towards the end always tears me up. I have seen Heart a handful of times and each time there was a cover of Led Zeppelin. Each performed in an honor and tribute to a band that so influenced Heart. While I generally despise anyone trying...trying to cover LZ, I came to anticipate which song Heart would cover at this show. Heart's cover of The Battle of Evermore brings tears to my eyes. Immigrant Song brought down the house. Rock and Roll. Black Dog. All simply spot on with the spirit of both bands shining through. There are close ties between the two bands. John Paul Jones worked with Heart for a bit of time, producing and performing on one of their albums in the 90's. Plant is reputed to have said that Heart is the one band he would prefer to cover their songs. Heart and Jason still perform together, having done a show in Seattle on this last New Year's Eve. I only found this out day of show...and scalpers wanted your first-born...plus several other body parts, so I was not able to attend. I may be twisted in my thinking, but for some reason I have never thought of Heart as a 'girl' band. There is simply too much talent to limit the band to that. Instead, I think of them as cornerstones of rock music.

@gene6690 Greetings from Germany. Well, I don't like to make comparisons, and who can say who is the "best"? I'll put it this way: for my taste, for me personally, Floor Jansen is the only true metal queen. Followed by our German Metal Queen named Doro Pesch. And in terms of genre, I would classify 'Heart' as pop/rock or rock. Otherwise, I agree with you completely.

@@StaceyRPGReacts greetings and Love from Germany again. Well, in this case you can do it the same way you did it with 'Stairway to Heaven'. The original first, than the Tribute. Cause i would love to see you react to 'Heart's song "Alone" first and than the Tribute from Floor Jansen. You can find it on Floor's RU-vid Channel. That would be so awesome ☺. @@stefanstock953 Greetings from South Africa. Yes you are correct with the distinction of Heart as a rock group. I was introduced to Nightwish and Floor during the beginning of the lockdown period in 2020 particularly Storytime from the Wacken 2013 show. I was totally blown away by the combination of the beautiful Tuomas compositions and this tall Godlike front women with an angelic voice known as Floor. She and Nightwish had such an impact on me that i booked and flew with my wife from South Africa to Gelsenkirchen, Germany to go watch them perform live. i was just worried that the pregnant Floor might succumb to some performance pressures and thank goodness nothing happened. That was pure luck as she actually cancelled her show a couple weeks later. Feel just sorry for those fans. Rock on mate 😇

I have seen this video a dozen times or so, and each time I have had tears streaming down my face. This is the best cover of not just Stairway to Heaven that I have ever heard, but IMHO is the best cover of ANY song in the Rock and Roll era. Had this been released as a single, I have little doubt that it would have been a #1 smash.

I grew up mostly in the 70s and 80s and I tear up almost every time I see this. Anyone who knows the history of Led Zeppelin knows that they are no stranger to pain and tragedy. It’s very emotional when you know the story behind it. And the full story is mind blowing. I’ve studied it. Anyway needless to say I love Led Zeppelin. They are/were my favorite rock band by far ❤.

Your vibe is Real from go. **** immana probably edited a dozen times ... I have seen this performance many, many times before, and Plant has a moment where is is missing his Brother, his bestie, when the Bowler hats show, it is real... that man is both loving the song and devastatingly heartbroken, missing his best friend on the kit. Hi Stacey, every time I watch this the tears flow. LZ was my favorite band that I saw in concert in 1970, my ticket was $5.00. My tears flowed even more so watching it with you and your reaction. Robert Plant was emotion as well, teary eyed. Robert Plant and John Bonham were friends that joined Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones to form LZ. It took several times watching this, that the black hats worn by the choir and everyone else, was the same hat that John Bonham used to wear. I suggest you watch the David Letterman show with his guests being the three members of LZ after that night of being honored. David Letterman was also honored and was sitting next to Jimmy Page. It is a rather funny exchange and will lighten your heart. I'll keep watching your reactions, that are so genuine. You are quite attractive with a lovely smile and I enjoyed sharing the emotions and tears.
