So, about that one blue-haired woman who keeps popping up: that's Pakkoyan! The anime doesn't mention this, but she's Vueko's lover (or one of them, at least). You'll notice she and Vueko are often standing together, even in her present day form as a one-eyed hollow. Dani's right, the girl who got grabbed by a creature and died was just another girl with blue hair :P
@Faaaaaaaay
@Faaaaaaaay 3 месяца назад
oh really? i though it was just with the blue-haired girl that is always calling her, because of that one panel where Vueko is laying (undressed) on top of her. I don't think the manga mentions a harem?
@Eterrath
@Eterrath 3 месяца назад
@@Faaaaaaaay By "lover" the original commenter means mates. The manga shows her with Pakkoyan and it's true that they both end up developing a deeper connection together but Irumyuui also mentions that Vueko smells like she had lots of mates. It's kind of a fan theory with only the manga panel that you mentioned as evidence but it's believed that Vueko was kind of supposed to be the "reliever" of the group. It makes more sense when you notice that in one of the first episodes she mentions giving people medicine but it's in air quotes aka a different kind of healing/medicine.

@@Faaaaaaaay weeell, Irumyuui does call Vueko out on smelling like "mating with lots of people". And Vueko alludes, in the manga, that she doesnt just take care of everyone - she TAKES CARE (spelled in bold in the manga...) of them if you know what I mean. So, that's a hint, I think...

One of the most heart-wrenching revelations to me personally was Faputa's birth and what Vueko was saying. That Irumyuui never did forgive a single thing. After countless children consumed by Wazukyan's people, she has always remembered. She always did feel for all of her children. And all this time, she has been bottling up her sorrow, despair, and wrath. Faputa is the embodiment of all these things. Years of accumulated anguish and fury bottled up into one living being. I can't wait for the next few episodes.
@golden--hand
@golden--hand 3 месяца назад
One caveat to this. I agree, she didn't forgive. But she still cared about these people event though they took advantage of her. Her second wish she used to shelter all these people and give them somewhere safe to stay in the abyss. A place where they didn't have to satisfy base needs like water or deal with sickness anymore. It was her THIRD wish to have Faputa, and the rage and anger was more of a byproduct then the goal. Its far more likely, and there is circumstantial evidence that supports the idea, that Irumyuui wanted Faputa to go on and live her own life and to leave the village behind. part of the village's design was that Faputa could not enter, this could only be that way if its what Irumyuui wanted. She was just as much trying to insure the villages could not hurt her child as she was protecting them from Faputa. Vueko's perspective is once-sided. Shes is only stating HER view, and not necessarily the objective truth. Vueko does this quite a lot really. She wasn't wrong here, Irumyuui didn't forgive or forget; but it lacks the nuance of the event and the other factors involved. That Irumyuui still loved the people of the village even though they did what they did.

What makes this all so awful is that Irumyuui got two wish eggs, two wishes. 1. To be able to give birth. Except she's a child with no concept of how childbirth works aside from the fact that cute babies come out of their mom's belly. She gets her wish exactly, just in the worst way imaginable. 2. To save Vueko and protect her. Except, she has no idea how she could possibly do either of those things. So again, the egg gives her exactly what she wished for. A way to cure Vueko and a place to keep her safe in. The cradles only work for people with clear wishes. If you're not, real specific about your wish, the cradle is gonna take some creative liberties, but in the end. You still get exactly what you asked for. And because of that Wazukyan can act without regret, because he knows for a fact that Irumyuui's children became medicinal in response to her wish. He knows that being able to heal the effects of the eggwater was her wish, so he doesn't hesitate to do that for her. After all, this WAS what she had wished for.
@golden--hand
@golden--hand 3 месяца назад
She got 3 eggs and 3 wishes. She received the 3rd from Wazukyan, the one he used on himself she striped from him when he entered the village. It was this 3rd egg she used to create Faputa.
@krokulridgestalker7007
@krokulridgestalker7007 3 месяца назад
@@golden--hand that is a known fact, yes. I was referring to the pre-iruburu wishes, since those are the ones that are relevant to what I was talking about. But when taking it into account, it does go to show exactly what I meant, Irumyuui's third wish was very clear, very much so thought out and thus, the only one that didn't just cause her even more suffering. This time she knew exactly what she wanted and the egg couldn't get up to it's usual assholery.
@golden--hand
@golden--hand 3 месяца назад
@@krokulridgestalker7007 Alright, fair. I'll add, as I have mentioned in some other comments, regarding how Wazuykan was acting. I honestly, personally, believe he used the 2nd egg on himself before he gave the third to Iru. I think he did what he did and was totally fine with it in large part because the egg gave him the idea and the conviction follow through. I will say though, its not so much that cradles of desire 'take liberties', its more that they are so horrific because they can only formulate your desires with your body. If your greatest desire is to be wealthy, no mater how clear that desire is, its always going to come from you; it can't just produce a pile of cash on the ground next to you. At best you'll be able to pop coins from under your fingernails or something.
@krokulridgestalker7007
@krokulridgestalker7007 3 месяца назад
@@golden--hand very possible tbh. But I will stand by the fact that the egg absolutely is a whole ass monkey's paw kinda deal. Because going back to wish #1, 'Irumyuui wanted to be able to give birth' and 'Irumyuui wanted it to stop hurting'. No matter how you mix those two up, there is absolutely no way that the easiest way to solve that problem wouldn't have been to just fix whatever was wrong with her womb/cervix/whatever the issue was and cutting off her nerve endings. Her transforming into a organless-turtlebunny birthing fleshlump, clearly was not the most reasonable way of going about it. The cradle might not be actively malevolent since it's not sentient. But the issue is that specifically because it's not sentient, it just takes whatever vague thoughts you're thinking and goes with it. It simply can't read your mind, think of how to best fulfill your dreams and then execute the plan. It just goes 'baby out of stomach? I got it!'. 'want money? Become money!'. Like how Majikaja, literally just became a cloud of gas upon entering Iruburu. It is because the cradle isn't capable of independent thought that it just warps the body into a form that somewhat resembles fulfillment of the actual wish, without taking into consideration the fact that the result clearly is not what you wished for.
@golden--hand
@golden--hand 3 месяца назад
@@krokulridgestalker7007 Oh, I 100% agree with that. I just wanted to point out it's not horrific because that's the default. Its just more honorific if your desires are complicated or uncertain. Which is why kids are better suited because NORMALLY they have far more simple thoughts (which obviously you get, I'm just saying for finalize the thought :)) I think the robot guys made a mistake summarizing and giving the alternate name 'wish granting' egg because 'cradle of desire' is far more accurate and less misleading in function. HOWEVER, since you mentioned Iruburu. I am under no impression people turn into hollows on entry; at least not after the original villagers. Pretty sure everyone after are hollows because they gave something up and couldn't leave. When Riko was about to give something up for Nanachi and was stopped, Kaja said "Once you do it's all over." I took this to mean, A) if you give up a part of your body what replaces it will be 'imaginary' effectively, and you will die if you leave because it can only exist inside the village. And B) its a slippery slope, once you start trading what you have for what you want, you'll give in to doing it more making you progressively less of what you are. I think Kaja is smoke not because he was turned into smoke on entry, but because he traded all of himself away and all that remains that he can't give up are 'memories' in the form of smells. Which is why he wanted to trade for one whole, mint condition, Riko. Its a body with a lot of life left in it, and if he had it, maybe he could live a real life again, maybe even leave. As I type this I made a realization that makes this kind of symbolic. The cradle of desire warps your wishes if you are not fully convicted in what you want. And even when the village isn't turning people into hollows on entry, people still turn themselves into warped versions of what they want when they get there. Its like the Village has become a enormous Cradle of Desire you enter and experience first hand now. You do it to yourself. I think they only real effect the village has on people now, in terms of changing them I mean, is that I think it alters the peoples desires slightly when they become villagers to value children. Which is just a remnant of Iru's last wish which was primarily meant for the original villagers so they wouldn't want to hurt Faputa or ever feel like they need to eat or take advantage of her kids anymore. And I don't think this is an effect of the cradle of desire as Iru doesn't have any of them anymore. This is getting more into personal speculation now, but I think there is evidence there, I think this is an effect because essentially all the villagers in her are more memories, souls with illusionary bodies playing pretend, then real people anymore. Which is why they can't leave. At this point the only real people are Riko's posse, vueko and Faputa. Everyone else is just a memory, phantoms of the past no one can forget.

When they say he is "divinely possessed" what they mean is his instincts are just very accurate. He can't see the future he's just really good at making predictions such as predicting that Vueko would join Ganja or that Irumyuii would somehow cure them with her wish. And she did, he didn't know however that it would be babies but he had a hunch after it was born, he's not malicious or even particularly selfish just very harsh he was just doing what had to be done to save his crew "everyone says I'm divinely possessed but i still must do whatever it takes" this doesn't mean he "right" but i don't think that's really the point. It's all about what is most valuable to someone and what they're willing to sacrifice to protect it. It seems that value is itself a physical force that can affect the abyss

To be fair, we don't know that. There is effectively zero evidence to say he doesn't have visions, and there are some things he says that are... weirdly specific, that its really hard to see as being just a amazing guess. The issue is we don't see his visions, they are never explained to us, so its not possible to definitively say one way or the other if the visions are true or not. You can't say what 'they really mean is' because it isn't possible to know. There is evidence that could be used to point both ways on that argument.

I know im probably gonna catch flak for this but i dont see Wazakuyan as a villain and at most just an antagonist, what he did was no different than people resorting to cannibalism as people lost in the mountains or trapped on an island/cave. Im pretty sure the main reason people see him as a villain is because of his personality which doesnt help but thats just who he is. You also gotta remember that it most likely was irumyui who wished for them to be cured or at least vueko and Belaf but id imagine being given a second stone while in that state and being a child that somehow the cure came from the children through the weird ways wishes are when not specified

That’s kinda how most made in abyss “antagonists” are. They’re all in this really interesting gray area where they seem messed up but they have a sick but valid justification to their actions. Bondrewd for example does what he does to save humanity from the 2000 year cycle, and while he makes the children suffer, he gives them more genuine love than they’ve ever had. If anything, the antagonists in this story help riko’s gang on their journey more than anything if you think about it.

Bondrewd and now Wazukyan join this show's "villain" roster, and while Bondrewd was an "outright scoundrel", Wazukyan is just disturbing. He's a "divinely possessed prophet" which probably means he saw all of this coming or understands their circumstances in a way no one else does. He likely can't feel much shock or sadness, as all of this just seems "inevitable" to him. Like, he was probably heartbroken over all of this weeks ago, before they even got down here, and just had to press on. Imagine what his life has been like, knowing every step that would lead him here. He probably just got tired of agonizing over it and just accepts the journey as it unfolds in front of him. While everyone else is desperately freaking out, he knows how this is going to end.
@leovigildo4534
@leovigildo4534 3 месяца назад
While I agree that Wazukyan is an antagonist, I don't think you get that whole "prophet" thing. Wazukyan can't really see the future. He just has a very unusual perspective on the cause and effect of things - he doesn't see the effect part of the equation, until it's the "effect" he wants. That's why he was desperate when the Ganja Squad were dying from the pseudo-water sickness - even using a cradle egg on himself (likely to wish for everyone to be saved). As Belaf stated to Vueko earlier, Wazukyan was going to find the City of Gold, even if he had to make it up for himself. When Ganja was dying, he was going to do ANYTHING to allow his people to survive, even if it meant using Irumyuui and damning them for millennia in the 6th layer of the Abyss.
