7:20 - So back in Season 5 and 6, we had Michelle and Emily taking the lead as co studio heads and they would appoint dance captains to take some moderate control in leading the teams in preparing dances and rehearsals for Regionals. But Emily and Michelle would still oversee dances and make any appropriate corrections. A few troubles end up happening along the way but eventually the team comes together by the end. Miss Kate also made a few cameos in these seasons too (whenever things went out of control). Season 6 had a really good natural balance of Emily handling the business side of the studio while Michelle handled the dance aspects of the studio and the dance captains actually did their job and didn’t just leave the rest of the dancers alone with too much freedom. But starting with Season 7, they weirdly abandoned these aspects of dance after Michelle left in the first episode of Season 7. Obviously Nick was new and took over as studio owner and worked alongside Emily but this was the point where I felt that they started to not fully focus on important dances and would often give the dance captain full reign of the choreography rather than actually having adult authority figures oversee the progress. This was most noticeable when Summer became dance captain and Nick just left her to handle stuff due to his lack of knowledge in dance. A similar thing happened with Emily in this season too where she would just tell the dancers to rehearse and then just leave them to dance without any proper prep. This happened in the episode where B Troupe had to prove their worth to going to Nationals. Although Emily ended up being absent a lot in season 7 (I think it was due to Alex Beaton being busy with other commitments). But I remember one of your Season 7 reactions when you addressed why Emily or Nick would often leave dancers in the lurch when they are clearly struggling and it’s definitely noticeable in these recent seasons which is a huge contrast to the earlier seasons. It actually drove me crazy too lol. So yeah I’d say Season 7 was the starting point where the dance captain duties became more loose.

When you asked when did the role of a dance captain go from assisting the studio head to delegating and choreographing the dancers, it was season 7. In season 6, Michelle was the choreographer, Emily was the business partner/manager, and Noah was the dance captain. When Noah choreographed, Michelle was aware of it and she saw Noah's work. Michelle and Emily also brought Sloane and Latroy from season 4 to audition dancers for a hip-hop dance, and Chloe to choreograph a ballet duet on Richelle and Noah. Since Michelle left, Nick bought the studio and they no longer had a choreographer and Emily was absent in majority of season 7.
Brittany, you mentioned in the last episode reaction that perhaps Finn could have social anxiety. I feel like it's more likely he has ADHD, considering the symphoms include hyperactivity, innatention, absent-mindedness, lack of brain maturation etc. What are your thoughts?

yess this episode was a fun one, and btw we saw Amy’s mom in season 5, and she was super strict so we have some backstory to that too. also the pastel coloured studio is actually studio 1 lol, they got rid of studio B in like season 3 or 4, and then the new studio was studio 1 in season 5. and I can’t wait for the podcast! I was thinking all the fans would go crazy if you could get guests later on in the podcast that have been in TNS to spill some extra tea and BTS things, like that would be super exciting!
I think you're next character thingy should be richelle (szn 8 specifically as shes a very different person). I believe richelle is mad because she sacrificed her nationals spot because everyone else but her and a few others didn't even want to go pro, richelle probably would've loved being dc for nationals and kenzie having a chance at that when they agreed to change routes as a request by the rest of the team must suck. I also think she's more hurt because richelle takes things quite personal.

Hi… I’m just going to say that I found TNS on CBBC in 2022 and binge watched seasons 1-7 (season 8 came out just after I finished season 7) and Riley was my favourite character there (ok, that sounds strange but it does link to my question… carry on reading). I was absolutely devastated when you left after season 4 because I was so attached to her and I almost stopped watching it (I commented this in an earlier video but I think RU-vid deleted it). I’m glad I didn’t though (that’s besides the point)! For my question, I was wondering what you thought of Riley in season 4, because she was written as quite an unlikeable character but I cried for her (I’m not kidding, I did!) because I was so attached to her and couldn’t bear to see her in so much pain. Then I watched the later seasons and after getting more comfortable around Piper as a “mini Riley”, I rewatched season 4 as it has most of my favourite characters in, and ended up taking Piper’s side instead of Riley’s! Anyway, the question is “How did you feel about your character Riley in season 4?” PS. I love your videos please keep making them they’re amazing and so are you 💜
My theorie is that maybe Tiara did an audition for the next step and ended up not in the A or B Troup and she wants to get revenge but maybe it's something else 🤷♀️
Question!!! In seasons 1-3 (when you were on A-Troupe) A-Troupe does a more hip hoppy kind of style than technical. Did you get much of a say in terms of the styles?? Would you prefer more lyrical numbers??
i went to the tours in the uk and i hadn’t watched the next step at that point cause my neurodivergent ass couldn’t watch any tv shows cause my attention span was like 0 but i’m a dancer and my friend asked me if i wanted to go and i was like sure and then i got really into tns after i went😂
I have been a fan of the next step for like 10 years if watched all of the seasons (Riley's my favorite character out of the whole show) like so many times its definitely my comfort show and I would be so grateful if you could respond but i get it us busy so it's fine.

Dance was my escape, as a kid. I became obsessed with it, and when my role on TNS came along, it was the perfect fit. I probably wouldn't have gone into acting or dancing (professionally) if it wasn't for that show.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the Riley James and Alfie drama from season 4 and Alfie’s character on the show as a whole? (Personally if Alfie didn’t kiss Riley when he knew she had a bf and Riley wasn’t with James, I’d love Ralfie together I also think Alfie had the potential to be a better character if they didn’t make do some of the things he does, maybe his behavior comes from being a prince and always getting what he wants?)

I dont particularly like A troupe in the later seasons , the talent in some of the dances is kimda soft sizzling, but i love the wlw representation with Jude and Cleo . ❤
