Hey Everyone, I hope you guys enjoyed the reaction 💜Still can't believe how unreal this performance was! 🤯They are so good live! WOW! 💜 Much Love, Peace, Happiness 💜✌😊 ShaneyG
Someone else addressed the backing track question. This WAS a really well-engineered and recorded performance. This was 2016 at the PopSpring music festival in Japan (which is why Kirstie and Mitch are dressed like anime characters), and for many years this was the only high-quality concert footage for Pentatonix. The venue had great sound, and these four songs were recorded and broadcast by MTV. The rest of this performance is available on RU-vid, but in a much lower quality fan-recorded form.
Thank you for letting me know. I love what they had on. Especially Mitch and Kirstie. I loved Scott's jacket as well. It was a very well done live performance & I loved it. 💜 made me smile & happy 😊
I've followed Pentatonix since 2011 when they were on the SingOff. But I never spent much time on RU-vid until 2020 during the pandemic when I started watching their videos. They generate a positive energy when they perform that helped keep my spirits up. They released a single called "Happy Now" in August of 2020, an original song that had a great energy -- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-446fgjNuhTQ.html@@ShaneAlanGower
I've seen them live 4 times and just today I bought my ticket for their holiday tour this year. My only regret is that I couldn't afford to see them live before Avi left.
Pentatonix has a huge fan base in Japan - they've performed there multiple times (including during their latest world tour, back in the spring), and have performed more songs either partially or wholly in Japanese than any other foreign language (4). This is one of the best pieces of concert footage from PTX earlier days, IMO. There are any number of fan-cam videos around from back then, but this was professionally recorded (both video and audio), and the camera work is first-class as well. Always fun to introduce someone new (or relatively new) to Pentatonix to this video - 3 great originals, and the famous Evolution of Michael Jackson - but with choreo!
The group has a genius sound guy, Ed Boyer, who has a lot of insight into a cappella and it's deands! Jacob Restituto has an interview with him on YT that is fascinating. That being said, take a look at their cover of Gold by Kiiara. Them, on couches with good mics in front of them, pouring out true gold. Check out the original first to really see what they have done. Enjoying your reactions a lot!
We need to find you a video where they are just standing there singing together unmixed so you can see what that is like. They do a pretty amazing job balancing their own voices with one another. At the VIP last week, they just stood there and sang “Valentine.” It was stunning. Great reaction! I love this video. @Water” and “Can’t Sleep Love” are two of my favorite PTX original songs, particularly this version of CSL where Mitch raps. There isn’t really an original I don’t like, but these two are around the top of the list somewhere.
You should react to the mini documentary "The Making of Evergreen". They arranged & recorded last year's Christmas album (which was nominated for a Grammy Award) in 2 or 3 weeks - old school with all of them in the same studio at the same time! It's an amazing look inside Pentatonix Magic! ❤
Well done, I love this video as well! I don’t know the song Water very well, but it ends up replaying in my brain for days after I hear it. I think Kirstie either wrote or co-wrote that one. For the Michael Jackson medley, I keep thinking I will sit down one day and count how many songs are in there. It’s a bunch for sure, that man was a hit machine. I really enjoy your reactions, thanks. Peace …
I don't think they used backing tracks at this point in their career. Kevin definitely had a chest mic and what they called a "stomp pad" to pick up body percussion. There are some fun fan-cam videos online of this era where you can see Mitch taking over the stomp pad while Kevin did the rap in "Sing". Around 2017, though, they DID start using a backing track instead for body percussion - Kevin's knee was hurting from all stomping during the constant touring... and it allows him to move around more. The last couple tours have added even more to the backing tracks, especially for their originals where they take more liberties in the studio recordings (eg layered vocals).
I saw him stomping his foot there quite a bit. Didn't know they would of used body mics for percussion but it makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up for me 😊✌
Yeah, they definitely use a backing track for white winter hymnal now. They 💯 do the clapping/ body percussion but there is no way the sound of it would be as full and clear as it is with the mic situation they have.
You should try a few of Avi's solo videos like Change on the Rise and b/w video of I'm only getting started. There's so many to choose from. Really hope you'll react to a few. Thanks😅
You are quickly becoming one of my favorite reactors to ptx that I watch. I absolutely love your enthusiasm and hype! I was bouncing around with you and couldn't stop grinning throughout the whole thing. I needed this too my man, listening to this and watching your reaction to it and sharing your joy in it really brought my mood up. I had a few days ago, lost a friend of mine of over 20 years so it has been a rough couple of days and I too hope that you have better days ahead of you as well
Thank you so much seeing this comment brought such a huge smile to my dial 😁 music is my life and it can always pick me up. It can also make me feel all sorts of emotions. I actually did PTX hallelujah this morning and it klapped(smacked in afrikaans) me hard. (The video will hopefully be up soon) I will definitely check those recommendations out. I still want to see the making of bohemian rhapsody. Always loved BTS of music videos, use to watch that making the video tons when I was younger. ✌😊💜
While they weren't using tracking here, they have definitely started with their newer orginals. They're trying to experiment with their sound more now that they've proben themselves. It's very evident from footage of their current tour. A lot of the songs have intros where you'll see Mitch, and Matt just dancing without singing but can hear their background voices. Then they'll come in to make a fuller sound. They definitely layered themselves a lot on The Lucky Ones album and it would be impossible to do live. Listen to.anchor to hear the layoring. Its almost all Mitch with tiny bits of background. He sings more than one part at a time throughout the song.
